AutoCAD Inventor :: Imperial Dia Arch Units Turning To 4 Place Decimal On Save As To DWG

View 3 RepliesI would like a few rules to be triggered once the new drawing template is opened.select sheet size, I have been given a rule that already works, basically the rule selects a border and title block based on sheet size selection.
trigger = iTrigger0iLogicForm.Show("BorderChange", FormMode.Modal)iLogicVb.UpdateWhenDone = TrueIf Parameter("BorderSize") = "A0" Then ActiveSheet.ChangeSize("A0", MoveBorderItems := True)ActiveSheet.TitleBlock = "MJTD A0"ActiveSheet.Border = "MJTD A0.

I would also like a rule to let me annotate in metric or imperial. this is where I require assistance. I am not sure the best way to achieve this rule. My programming is very basic.I have found some links here, but I can't seem to make them work in the drawing environment. Also these rules seems to change the units of an already created .ipt.

I am just looking for a rule to select either .in or mm from the styles library(i think) , before I even place a base view. Regardless of the original units used to make the model.
I have drawn a model using imperial units, at a scale of 1:1. When I switch the units to decimal, the unit factor remains the same, eg 5" shows as 5mm.
Is there a setting anywhere that would automatically show 5" as 127mm, or do I need to scale my model by 25.4.
Is there a way to set the decimal place for the columns in Autodesk Inventor 2011? I have a length column I am trying to use for the p/n but I need it to be 2 places and they show up from zero to 4 dec places. I have set it inside excel but it never retains the setting.

I've had to format the parts list to get rid of the decimal places but I can't find a way of getting rid of them in the balloon. Any format setting somewhere?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have some machines which seem to work in imperial maesurement a dn others which work in metric. it is frustrating when trying to insert a map block that is metric and is inserting into a drawing which is set up as imperial. We have tried using the - dwgunits to change to mm, and then using insunits , insunitsdef source and insunitsdeftarget to 0, this works when the PC is currentyl in use. when shut down and restarted it reverts back to imperial setting.
Am i right in thinking this is something that needs to be done at the software installation stage to make it default to metric everytime?

Wondering if there's a way to enter imperial units in command line of a metric drawin and have it convert imperial to metric.
IE. I'm constantly taking field site dimensions in imperial and it'd be useful if i didn't have to do conversion every time.
I'm trying to determine what my base units are in any drawing that i'm in (In modelspace). Essentially i want to either just read out the current base unit, or simply determine metric or imperial...or even both. I've been browsing through the forums and i've found a few examples, but nothing too detailed. Here is what i have so far, i have a feeling i'm on the write track. Is it possible to read out the value of "PlotPaperUnits"?
namespace UNITTEST {
public class UNITS {
[Autodesk.AutoCAD.Runtime.CommandMethod("UNITS")]
public void UNITSCOMMAND() {
Document doc = Autodesk.AutoCAD.ApplicationServices.Application.DocumentManager.MdiActiveDocument;

Im having trouble inputting imperial units for my line lengths. It works fine when i type 4-3/4 it gives me a line that is 4 and 3/4 of an inch long. Can i only input values in inches or is it possible to input something say 4' 4-3/4 ?
View 5 Replies View RelatedSo we have started some work overseas and I have been trying to make sense of the metric units in CAD. Metric units in general, make way more sense then imperial units but how they work in CAD has been confusing.
I am familiar with the UNITS command and have changed the drawing units to "decimal" and the insertion units to "unitless"
I know that when you draw a 1 unit line in model space it could represent a 1 millimeter line or a 1 meter line and that it is up to the drafter to decide what it will be. I also am familiar with setting up dim styles to dimension correctly based off of whether you are drawing in meters or millimeters.
I have set my Adobe pdf printer to A1 23.4" X 33.1" (594mm x 841mm). when I draw a 1 unit line in paper space and print the layout the 1 unit line measures 1 inch?
Is it possible to obtain Architectural unit dimensioning (ft and inches) in a metric drawing ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThere wasn't a metric template so I created one. I've also been working on setting up Annotative and Dynamic Blocks. Mostly we work in Imperial and so the blocks were drawn in Imperial units.
When I insert some of my Annotative Blocks (Section marks and Labels, etc.), some insert scaled up 25.4 (which is what I want) and others don't.
Take the attached examples:
SOIL-Gravel.dwg is not Annotative. Insunits is set to 1
NOTE-title.dwg is Annotative. Insunits is set to 1.
I notice on my Insert Dialog Box that the Block Unit Factor changes from 25.4 (SOIL) to 1
(NOTE).
For some reason NOTE-Section Cut (Annotative) inserts at 25.4, but the Dynamic Parameters fail to scale up.
I've played around with INSUNITSDEFSOURCE and INSUNITSDEFTARGET, but neither seem to change. I understand they only work if INSUNITS of the block is 0. Which I have also toggled.
For an autocad assignment, we have been given a drawing in engineering notation (feet and inches) and have to draw it with SI units dimensions. Doing the drawing was fine, BUT, I drew it in inches and thought that I could change it to millimetres.
I have used the units command initially to set up engineering. Then after drawing returned to units to change to decimal. Dimensions turned out in inches regardless. I also tried the scale command to alter the scale, then dimension , still no luck. I went into the annotation menu got to modify primary units and alternate units and still no luck. Not even my tutorial teacher knows how to do this.
I received a .dwg file from S. Korea with dimensions and units all in the metric mm and I need the units to be in feet and inches. Is there a command to switch dimensions and units to imperial feet and inches?
Rather than changing units in command UNITS Inches and Architectural, and SCALE 25.4, is there any other way to switch metric to imperial systems. Scaling somewhat does the trick but, provided dimensions remain in mm.
I need to show feet and meters in my drawing. I got them to show up, however the decimal is in the wrong spot. Instead of it being 1.8288 meters for 6 ft., it's showing as 1828.8. Everything I read says to 'just move the decimal'. But how do I do that without overriding the actual dimension?

When the modify dimensions box is open, the 'roundoff' menu gives me 1/16", 1/8" etc, even when DECIMAL is selected as the unit format.
This wasn't happening earlier, not sure what's going on. [in fact in a solved problem from earlier, a colleague found a drawing that had units set to millimeters, had its insertion scale set to inches! Different computer, so not related].
Is it possible to indicate alternate units, imperial/metric?

View 9 Replies View RelatedHow to represent a bottomless arch (arch span)? I can make a horizontal arch pipe, but I only need the top half. I also thought about building a corridor.
We do have a storm drain system running perpendicular above it and need to show the arch as a crossing. Corridor would work but I think I would prefer a pipe network-type solution.
my Autosave keeps turning itself off. I am becoming suspicious that everytime autoCAD is updated, its' changing my settings.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've noticed an anomoly when working with XREF's and changing units. With the company that I work, we receive client drawings, XREF them in, and put our drawings on top of them. For this particular project, we have about 150 drawings that we are working with. The biggest problem is the drawings we receive are in various units, and we draw in millimeters. So when we go to XATTACH, we have to make sure the XREF drawing's units are set to mm, although most of them are not. So we navigate to the XREF drawing, open it, open the UNITS window, change it to millimeters, accept, save, and close the drawing. However, when we go back into the actual drawing to XATTACH again, the unit change in the XREF has not taken effect. Reopening the drawing and launching UNITS will show that, indeed, the unit change was not saved. Doing it a second time will take effect, but why do we have to do this dance in the first place?
This problem occurs about 50% of the time. I can't seem to find a pattern with it. If I make a change to the XREF drawing itself as well as changing the units (like moving the pan or zoom), but to no avail.

I have one problem like conversion in this project involving things are converting total imperial dimensions in to metric while converting all the dimensions required in single precision like 15/16'' as .9375 mm but he need approximate value like 1 . I have large assembly how to maintain over all dimensions and how to change internal dimensions in simple ways.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI found out that if you have a dimension that is keyed you cannot use the custom property format in the fx. so how do I get ilogic to convert to fractions rounded to a 32nd.
When I put this (see below) in my code it changes my custom iproperty to a yes-no
fractionString = RoundToFraction(Dim_F, 1/32, RoundingMethod.Round)
Here is my code that drives my table in a drawing but the dimensions come as decimal and I need fractions.
If Hole_F_Type = "NONE" TheniProperties.Value("Custom", "F")= "-"ElseIf Hole_F_Type = "2-Hole" TheniProperties.Value("Custom", "F")= Parameter("Dim_F")ElseIf Hole_F_Type = "S1" TheniProperties.Value("Custom", "F")= "S1"& "-" & Parameter("Dim_F")ElseIf Hole_F_Type = "S2" TheniProperties.Value("Custom", "F")= "S2"& "-" & Parameter("Dim_F")ElseIf Hole_F_Type = "S3" TheniProperties.Value("Custom", "F")= "S3"& "-" & Parameter("Dim_F")End If
I have had a problem with retrieved dimensions decimal precision. I set the precision to 1 decimal place in the ipt but when I retrive the dimension it set the precision to 3 decimal places. I then go to the precision control in the drawing and change it to 1 decimal place.
If I then go back to the ipt and edit the dim, the drawing precision then jumps back to 3 decimal places. (This is particular to the decimal precision for the tolerance of a dimension). How to sort this out?
How do change the decimal separator from point to comma(in model and FX-parameter)
View 1 Replies View RelatedAt our plant we try to place all the parts for an assembly on one drawing. i am now working on an assembly with most of the components being fabricated in the shop and using fractional dimensions. However there are a couple of parts that will be machined and should be dimensioned with decimals. When I select a dimension and attempt to alter it it changes the dimension style of the entire drawing. Is there a method of changing only the desired dimensions and not all of them? I could use dual dimensioning and maybe hide the undesired set but I don't know if that would work either.
