We are running autocad mep 2010. I will occasionally open drawings and find that all the text has changed. It seems that when my co workers insert certain blocks, that somehow it will cause this to happen.
View 3 RepliesI have been working on a drawing with 3 different dynamic blocks for several weeks and everything has been working perfectly. However, all of a sudden this afternoon, the text in all 3 dynamic blocks disappeared and will not display on the screen in paper or model space, and does not print.
As best I recall, I was creating a polyline viewport when this text disappeared.
I cannot turn the text on in these dynamic blocks. The text in on layer 0 which is on, and is unlocked and unfrozen. Additionally I have turned on, unlocked and unfroze all layers in the dwg and this does not work. I have also checked the text layer in the block editor and it is on layer 0.
When I click on any of the blocks, all the information appears to be correct, ie: door numbers, text style, etc. The text, however, just does not appear. Also I have never set any invisible text parameters and when I open the block editor, nothing in the invisible text area is selected or select-able.
Previous versions of this drawing, which I saved yesterday, display all block text perfectly. Perhaps there is a setting I accidentally hit which caused this problem?
I have tried repeatedly turning on all the layers, unfreezing, unlocking, changing parameters in the Style menu. I closed Autocad and turned the computer completely off and back on again.
I want to create some symbols which includes text. For example, I have a square with an "F" centered within the square. The problem I am having is when I insert the block into a drawing and rotate it, the "F" also rotates. Is there any way to make it so the "F" is always horizontal no matter how I rotate the block?

I would like the cross and the text N to rotate independantly of the arrow while the N stays with the thick line. That's the easy part. How can I make the N move along the rotation path and keep the text aligned horizontally? I read something about linked action and move, but I can't make it work.
Is there a setting to change the text frame size when pasting a block of text?
For example if text is pasted into a blank page with the either the pick or text tool active the text frame on each page is 8.3"x10.8" on a 8.5"x11" page. the same on each succeeding page until the text is less than a full page.
I would like to set the text frame at 7.5"x10" for pasting in text when the text will need unknown number of pages.

I can't find information for how a block's text is utilized in a style. Here are some details. I have a unitless block with a non annotative text size of 10. This block is part of a style with a size 'use drawing scale' of .12. At 40 scale, it inserts at 4.8 size. If I change the text size to 8 it inserts at 4.8. If I hcange the text size to 5, it inserts at 3.
My question is how are the annotation scale, block text size, and style insert size tied together? OR are there other variables influencing the scaling? I have attached a screen shot of some of my unofficial tests.

I would like to create a block that has an attribute that will always read left to right no matter which method used to rotate the block itself. I know this can be done attaching a rotate parameter to the block and not the attribute, but i want it to also work when using the rotate command.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm currently working with AutoCAD Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion. The drawing has hundreds of callouts for different elements all over the site. The callouts are in form of a block, with a number inside. The number corresponds to a notes page which lists each detail in chronological order. (nothing new there)
Due to an expanding and shifting job site, notes have been added and deleted. The problem is now we have to go back through and update all the callout blocks. For example: We have 75 notes in our list, if note number 3 changes or is deleted, we need to go through and change all the numbers in all the blocks to reflect the change to the list.
Is there a way to link blocks to an mtext list? or possibly a spreadsheet?
Using Enhanced Attribute Editor one can set attribute text rotation to 0 when the block is rotated. But it must be done for each block individually. Is there a way to do this for several blocks at the same time or globally?
I know making block or text annotative does it but it requires redefining block, something I do not want to do.
I'm having trouble plotting text with blocks in paper space... I can bring up and edit the text within the blocks themselves just fine. I revise the text, hit "ok" and nothing shows where it is supposed to within the paper space.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a little knowledge of AutoCAD and I do a lot of reports using only AutoCAD, each sheet has a border on it with the project info, no., etc. Is there a way we can link the text blocks in page 1/layout 1 to the other pages/layouts so I don't have to go to each layout and edit the text block individually? Also, i did not draw the template so as to how it was constructed i do not know.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just called up a drawing I haven't worked on in a while. All the text is annotative with 2 scales, 1/8 & 1/4 and worked just fine. Now I see both scales at once, I can't get "grips" on it, it won't edit, and when I list it, it comes up as object type block "*uxxx", not text. If I explode it, it becomes text again, but as two separate notes of different sizes, and both remain visible, even though the anno scale is set for 1/8. Drawings that reference this also show both scales at once.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'll try to import a text file with a string: pointnumber, easting, northing, elevation, discription, but I get very big blocks and attributes in my drawing. I use Autocad 2011 Map 3D, on a windows XP OS. I'll importing the text string with the import command. Easting and Northing are for the position. The Elevation, pointnumber and discription are attributes from a block. I can only choose a block: "Map_Survey_point" This is the only block I can choose. When I import the text, the scale from the importing blocks are too big. How can I change the size of the block and attributes?

I am doing drawings for solar panel installations and have set up a dynamic block for our different panels that we use, which i have used xy paramater with the array action to make life simple when inserting panels onto a drawing... however we number these panels 1 to ~ ... we could have 3 on one roof but we could also have over 100... is there any way to have the dynamic block auto increment the text automatically? At the moment i use the block to show 20 panels then i explode and use the tcount command to increment the text in selection order.
Or... how i could go about doing lets say a data entry for example insert block-> Dialogue for amount of panels / amount of panels in a row or column? And after selecting that data the block will automatically have numbers 1-x...
I have attached a sample block so you can try and get an understanding of what im after.
I am trying to set constraints to this block and having some issues. I want to constrain the attribute text so when I stretch the block from the grips the text centers itself automatically within itself. The constraints will not let me pick the grip on the attribute text as a point.

View 9 Replies View Related i work at a small structural firm and am about the most experienced cad user here, which isn't saying much. I have never wrote any LISP's or anything, but have created many dynamic blocks and have edited some programing my boss got from a previous employee for adding dropdown menus with blocks/layers/etc. Just so you know my level of knowledge when it comes to answering my question. Also I am limited to using 2009 but other co-workers have up to 2013 so i would like this to work for all users. And i have done a bit of research but based on everyone elses level of knowledge am finding a lot of conflicting info and solutions that, to me, are in another language.
So I have a table that is created using polylines and text. It's a funky shape and AutoCAD's tables are a pain for it. i have created a dynamic block where i can array the rows down and the columns left. The issue is, i would like the test to come with each row, but still be editable once the block is done. I have figured out if row one is composed of 5 columns of text put into a single attribute, it is fine. But once you use the array action, to say 3 rows (including now 3 sets of attributes) they are not editable. So what is the work around, if there is indeed a work around?
the two option i see are to only array the rows and columns and left the text outside that block and manually copy it done to how ever many rows the user needs.... Or to have 2 blocks come in together, one as described before, and the other which just arrays the text and then i explode it to edit each line.. but then if you later choose to addd another line you would be left with doing that manually anyway..
I have read many topics that talk about TTF text printing bold under various circumstances, but have not found one addressing my exact issue. I have attached a PDF with which I hope to illustrate my problem.
I have a non-annotative, Scale = 1, all elevations = 0, block; My text is PDF's as text whenever the block is left at 90 or is exploded then rotated. But whenever the blocked is rotated (any amount) the text is no longer interpreted as text, it prints bold.
I need to be able to align my blocks to other, rotated, objects in both model and paper space; so this issue is causing my a fair amount of grief. I have been told switching to a shx font is out of the question.

I have a CAD file with property parcels in it. It has come from an external contractor and from a GIS program of sort sort I believe.
If you click each 'boundary'/land piece, it is a block/object (not a proxy graphic) and in the properties pane window, there are attributes that has the lot number, the lot area, parcel number, other info etc in it.
Each block is irregular and different, i.e. they are not all the same rectangle block repopulated, they are different blocks.
I don't know much about attributes in AutoCad althoguh after reading about them, is there some way to edit an attribute (make it not 'invisible' and to increase the text size of its display) when it is already in several hundred different blocks? The only way I could work out how to do it was to go into every block and do it.
I also tried using the ATTSYNC command to update blocks with attributes although that requires me to individually select each block/give each blocks name.
I also tried using the DATA EXTRACTION wizard and was able to extract the attributes into a table/excel file, although that is not really good enough as I need the attributes displayed over the CAD data so you can see what parcel of land the attributes are referring to.
Any better way or a lisp command to do this? Clicking each block/boundary/land unit to place a label over it would also be okay. I just don't want to have to manually create the labels from reading the property pane, there must surely be a better way,
Since it's a snow day here I have some time to work on some office stuff. I've created my new template now I want to update my blocks. Because I have to place blocks that show a direction for operation I have created 4 blocks of the same symbol-up, down, left, right. I do this because these blocks have text with them that needs to be orientated to the layout (otherwise I get a nasty letter back from the fire marshal). Now for the text that is constant I just use a annotative text style and have the text match the layout but the text that is an attribute I'm not sure if that can be annotative and match the layout as well.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy firm worked on a project recently with a sheet numbering system that created long sheet numbers, ie, MH-101-R1. Since the sheet numbers were so long, they no longer fit in our normal sheet/detail/drawing label blocks. (See attached DWG for an example.)
We are looking to create either a dynamic block or some kind of block that will automatically stretch with the text length.
