This is just a basic block to specify a section plane. What I would like to have is a BPT with 4 rotation options (0, 90 180, 270) that would rotate the whole block but it would keep the text upright and be able to stretch the ends of the arrows. I know I must be including/not including something important. Pointers on how to do this
View 7 RepliesSo I've done a reasonable amount of work with dynamic blocks. I have a block with a rotation action and grip to arbitrarily align it. However I realized when trying to combine it with an alignment grip (which actions on the basic or fundamental block rotation angle) that there didn't seem to be a way to some how link a dynamic block rotation action or one of the custom angle properties to a the fundamental block rotation angle. Thus there are two additive rotations at work; the dynamic block one with its grip and the fundamental rotation property.
This can cause some confusion when one person aligns with the grip and another via rotating the block's fundamental property and would also be problematic in the generalized sense if one was trying to select or programmatically read back the net angle alignment.
Is it possible to mirror a rotation within a dynamic block?
See the attached drawing. I am trying to have two rotations within a dynamic block, but only one grip. When the grip is rotated one half of the block rotates while the other half rotates in reverse. The resulting action would be much like the wings of a butterfly.
I have tried many different combinations of parameters, actions and constraints with no luck. The block in the attached file was as close as I could get. Have I reached the end of what AutoCAD is capable of?
Attached is a dynamic block for a civil grid tick. It's my first time creating a dynamic block so it's probably not the most efficent use of the dynamic parameters etc.
I have it setup with 4 visibility states to allow the northing and easting attributes to "rotate" about the center of the grid tick, to give options for readablity and/or text overlap.
What I wanted to add was figure out how to make the individual attributes flip 180 degrees about a point (roughly the center of the attribute). Again this would be for readability.
I've got a block that has a couple of rotation parameters. The main one works OK. But the secondary one that is incremental and only 180 doesn't. Everything looks OK but the objects don't rotate according to the parameter but 90 degrees from what I think it should.

But if the box becomes too small to hold the text horizontally, I would like that the text automatically rotate vertically without any other action that stretching the box. If that is possible, is it also possible that instead of a text, there's an attribute, and that it rotates according to the attribute's length ?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been trying unsuccessfully for several days to achieve a stable setup for the attached. This is the closest I have been able to get so far but as you can see if you change the width then the rotation parameter, the stability of the block very quickly breaks down.
The problem seems to be associated with the move action which determines the center point of the angle parameter. It seems to only work properly when you change the width parameter and the rotate handle is in the 180deg. Any other position of the angle parameter results in incorrect alignment of the geometry.
Just exactly what does "Angle" represent when placing a "Rotation Parameter" in a DBlock?
I've tried a bunch of diff angles and haven't noticed a difference. I'm trying to figure out just what effect diff values would have. I thought that maybe when rotating the block instance, I'd only be able rotate it "so far" (270 degrees in the example I've shown). But it still went well beyond that.
I need to prepare a linked chain araound a defined path. (Please have a look at the attached drawing) My idea is to have one element of the chain defined as a dynamic block and to manually "rotate" one side of the chain element. After that inserting the next element (previously aligning the user coordinate system) and "rotating" the right part again to the next position...
After doing the rotation, the block definition will change and the next block will be "disformed". So far no big problem, but the grip of the rotation parameter will stay there and I am not able to "rotate" the right part back into the old position (0 degree).
I'm just trying my hand at learning to create some dynamic blocks, but need a solution to keep the text unrotated. I have attached a file of my troublesome file for you experts to look at, if possible.

The file is basically a plan view of 4x foundation columns for overhead line towers (pylons). These towers can be different sizes and at different orientations, hence the dynamic options I have applied. However, when I rotate the block I want the text to rotate with it (to keep aligned with each column A, B, C, D), but I don't want rotation to be applied to the text, if that makes sense?
I have a feeling that constraints might work, although I know nothing about them, but these usually lag my PC. At present I am having to explode the block and apply a 0 rotation to all the text.
I have a section symbol that I want to rotate and keep the text at 0degress relative to UCS. The text is not in the middle so I can't rotate about the cetner of the text. I'll attach the block so it's more clear.
Right now the only fix is to assign a seperate rotation grip to both attribute text items.
Using Enhanced Attribute Editor one can set attribute text rotation to 0 when the block is rotated. But it must be done for each block individually. Is there a way to do this for several blocks at the same time or globally?
I know making block or text annotative does it but it requires redefining block, something I do not want to do.
Wondering if there was a way to have text maintain a rotation angle of 0 while being included in a rotation parameter. I am wanting the "N" for my North Arrow to follow the direction of the symbol of my viewport tag without the "N" character rotation angle changing with it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been working on a drawing with 3 different dynamic blocks for several weeks and everything has been working perfectly. However, all of a sudden this afternoon, the text in all 3 dynamic blocks disappeared and will not display on the screen in paper or model space, and does not print.
As best I recall, I was creating a polyline viewport when this text disappeared.
I cannot turn the text on in these dynamic blocks. The text in on layer 0 which is on, and is unlocked and unfrozen. Additionally I have turned on, unlocked and unfroze all layers in the dwg and this does not work. I have also checked the text layer in the block editor and it is on layer 0.
When I click on any of the blocks, all the information appears to be correct, ie: door numbers, text style, etc. The text, however, just does not appear. Also I have never set any invisible text parameters and when I open the block editor, nothing in the invisible text area is selected or select-able.
Previous versions of this drawing, which I saved yesterday, display all block text perfectly. Perhaps there is a setting I accidentally hit which caused this problem?
I have tried repeatedly turning on all the layers, unfreezing, unlocking, changing parameters in the Style menu. I closed Autocad and turned the computer completely off and back on again.
I want to create some symbols which includes text. For example, I have a square with an "F" centered within the square. The problem I am having is when I insert the block into a drawing and rotate it, the "F" also rotates. Is there any way to make it so the "F" is always horizontal no matter how I rotate the block?

I would like the cross and the text N to rotate independantly of the arrow while the N stays with the thick line. That's the easy part. How can I make the N move along the rotation path and keep the text aligned horizontally? I read something about linked action and move, but I can't make it work.
I have Autodesk inventor standard NOT the pro version. I am a Revit professional in dire need of learning Inventor. My exact steps are as follows:
1. Open assembly
2. create component - (simple wheel(cylinder) with an off axis hole in the middle so I can see if it is rotating.)
3. create component- flat surface.
4. constrain the cylinder to the flat surface via a tangent constraint
5. constrain the cylinder to the front edge of the flat surface via a mate constraint.
6. go to motion tab in constraint's, click rotation-translation, type in 10in for distance.
7.wheel does not rotate on surface like a wheel should. There is no affect of the surface on the wheel rotation.
In other words I want to get the circumference of the wheel to rotate 360 degrees as it travels pi*diameter of flat surface.
I've made annotative blocks and I've made dynamic blocks... My intent is to integrate both but I can't find a way to move dynamic block parameters separately at different annotative scales.
In other words, if I insert an annotative dimension and add multiple scales I can move the dimension grips independently at each scale. If I insert a dynamic block I want to be able to use the dynamic block's action "grips" to do the same. However, with a dynamic block, if I move a stretch action at one annotation scale it moves the action at all annotation scales.
The attached file shows a simple example.
I am having trouble trying to add text to a dynamic block that will stay locked and centered when I stretch it left/right and up/down. The default text I am looking to have should be 36x24 (36 is the lenght of the unit, 24 is the depth). I can also upload my block.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have created a dynamic block with several visiblility states. The block works great for what I need it for. however, I am trying to add one more action to the block but am having issues.
This block is essentially a 24" retail cabinet with the visibility states showing the different drawer and shelf configurations. I want to be able to lengthen the cabinet in 24" increments and have the visibility show for each 24" section.....e.g. I want a 10' cabinet so I bring in the 24" starter block. Then stretch the cabinet to the 10' mark, then I can chose any drawer/shelve config for each 24" section (they are all different).
I can get the block to stretch in 24" sections....no problem.....i just want the visibility state to be duplicated as well for each section. Now as it stretches, there is only one Vis state and it only populates the first cabinet.
I could do this by copying the block over and over 5 times.....but I am hoping there is a way to make this dynamic.
I have a block I am making into a Dynamic Block. I will be adding in different visibility states. Depending on the visibility state the block would need to be inserted from a different point.
My question is, is it possible to add multiple insertion points to a dynamic block so depending on the visibility state it defaults to the correct insertion point?
Is there any way to have a dynamic block which utilises a similar function to TCOUNT. I am doing drawings for solar panel installations and have set up a dynamic block for our different panels that we use, which i have used xy paramater with the array action to make life simple when inserting panels onto a drawing... however we number these panels 1 to ~ ... we could have 3 on one roof but we could also have over 100... is there any way to have the dynamic block auto increment the text automatically? At the moment i use the block to show 20 panels then i explode and use the tcount command to increment the text in selection order.
Or... how i could go about doing lets say a data entry for example insert block-> Dialogue for amount of panels / amount of panels in a row or column? And after selecting that data the block will automatically have numbers 1-x...
I have attached a sample block so you can try and get an understanding of what im after.
I am trying to set constraints to this block and having some issues. I want to constrain the attribute text so when I stretch the block from the grips the text centers itself automatically within itself. The constraints will not let me pick the grip on the attribute text as a point.

View 9 Replies View Related i work at a small structural firm and am about the most experienced cad user here, which isn't saying much. I have never wrote any LISP's or anything, but have created many dynamic blocks and have edited some programing my boss got from a previous employee for adding dropdown menus with blocks/layers/etc. Just so you know my level of knowledge when it comes to answering my question. Also I am limited to using 2009 but other co-workers have up to 2013 so i would like this to work for all users. And i have done a bit of research but based on everyone elses level of knowledge am finding a lot of conflicting info and solutions that, to me, are in another language.
So I have a table that is created using polylines and text. It's a funky shape and AutoCAD's tables are a pain for it. i have created a dynamic block where i can array the rows down and the columns left. The issue is, i would like the test to come with each row, but still be editable once the block is done. I have figured out if row one is composed of 5 columns of text put into a single attribute, it is fine. But once you use the array action, to say 3 rows (including now 3 sets of attributes) they are not editable. So what is the work around, if there is indeed a work around?
the two option i see are to only array the rows and columns and left the text outside that block and manually copy it done to how ever many rows the user needs.... Or to have 2 blocks come in together, one as described before, and the other which just arrays the text and then i explode it to edit each line.. but then if you later choose to addd another line you would be left with doing that manually anyway..
I was curious to know if it is possible to flip the orientation of an attribute when using a mirror parameter. I would like to orient my text to the right when I flip it one way and to the left when I flip it the other way.

I want the text to remain horizontal and read left to right while it rotates. I searched here for an answer but it's got me £@*%ed. It works when i flip it straight up and down.
