AutoCAD Architecture :: Match Properties Changing AEC Blocks?
Dec 21, 2011We've just upgraded to AutoCAD Architecture 2012 and I discovered that my match properties command (MA) is now on steroids. In the process of making an existing plan into a demo plan, I put a toilet on a demo layer. I intended to use match properties to put other select items on the same demo layer, but when I touched the lavatory, it turned into a toilet. I've never had this happen before. In trying to solve the issue, I've discovered the same thing happens with other AEC objects (couches, urnials, chairs -- all became toilets) and it happens in multiple files. Only walls and doors remain intact with only the layer, color and linetype changing (which is what I was expecting).
I looked at the settings inside the match properties command and none of them seemed to apply. I deselected the special properties options anyway, but the problem remains.
AutoCad :: Changing Names Of Multiple Blocks In DWG?
Aug 4, 2011I've been given about 14 DWGs from another company all on different discs. Each DWG is a page to a set of Shop Drawings. All objects are in model space. I want to combine all of them into one drawing but every drawing has similar block names with different objects associated with the block and when I copy the objects from one drawing to antoher, the blocks morph into the exisiting block, if that makes sense. Just a poor initial set up.
Anyway, the solution to this, I have found, is to rename the blocks in each drawing to have room numbers on the ends, giving them unique names and avoiding the "morph" upon inserting. I have about 15 blocks per drawings to add -XX with XX being 01-14. Is there an easy way to modify them or do I need to do the RENAME command as many times as needed in each drawing?

AutoCAD Architecture :: Changing Text Styles Between 2011 And 2012?
Jul 30, 2013I would like to preface this post by stating, for the purposes of this message, that I have absolutely no understanding of the workings of AutoCAD. I have looked at many forum discussions concerning my issue and I am simply unable to understand the terminology and/or concepts being described.
I recently purchased a new computer for my office. Accordingly, I needed to install AutoCAD on this new machine. All of the machines in my office are running AutoCAD 2011. However, after addressing some licensing issues with AutoDesk, I received a license and installer for AutoCAD 2012. Everything was installed correctly (as far as I understand) and the program itself is working fine. The problem I am running into involves the text style for the files I open:
For files saved on AutoCAD 2011, the text style used is Arial. Simple; no custom fonts. However, when I open that same file in AutoCAD 2012, the text style for the entire file has changed to Franklin Gothic Book. (Note that all files are accessible from all computers in the office through a network drive)
That is my only understanding of the situation. As I mentioned earlier I have very little understanding of the workings of AutoCAD. I have had this problem for almost a week now and I am no closer to understand this issue, much less solving it.
AutoCad :: Display ATTRIBUTES As Text From Multiple Blocks
Feb 13, 2011I have a CAD file with property parcels in it. It has come from an external contractor and from a GIS program of sort sort I believe.
If you click each 'boundary'/land piece, it is a block/object (not a proxy graphic) and in the properties pane window, there are attributes that has the lot number, the lot area, parcel number, other info etc in it.
Each block is irregular and different, i.e. they are not all the same rectangle block repopulated, they are different blocks.
I don't know much about attributes in AutoCad althoguh after reading about them, is there some way to edit an attribute (make it not 'invisible' and to increase the text size of its display) when it is already in several hundred different blocks? The only way I could work out how to do it was to go into every block and do it.
I also tried using the ATTSYNC command to update blocks with attributes although that requires me to individually select each block/give each blocks name.
I also tried using the DATA EXTRACTION wizard and was able to extract the attributes into a table/excel file, although that is not really good enough as I need the attributes displayed over the CAD data so you can see what parcel of land the attributes are referring to.
Any better way or a lisp command to do this? Clicking each block/boundary/land unit to place a label over it would also be okay. I just don't want to have to manually create the labels from reading the property pane, there must surely be a better way,

Now, ive got to change the content of theese, and i dont want to do that 1 by 1. Is there a way i could edit for ex. all my YV-E-------------1H at the same time?

Jun 22, 2010I have a .dwg file which contains numerous blocks (70 or so) and they all have unique names.All these blocks have nested text.
I want to edit the attributes of all the text, in all these blocks, such that they assume the same text style, text layer and colour.
Obviously, with so many blocks, I want to avoid clicking on the text and editing the attributes individually.
I tried a lisp file called ATcolour.lisp, but even this is very time consuming.

Jan 6, 2012I am trying to change text in hundreds of drawings. What I have is a line of text say "the brown fox" and I need to change it to "the black dog". I have probably 1500 drawings I need to do this in. I am not versed in scripts of lisp. I know the ACAD commands to do this but could develop a script file to batch this.

How do I identify what any given color is?
When I click on a letter, it shows me a visual block of the color, but doesn't tell me what the corresponding color number is.
Problem being, if I see one letter and want to take its color to use it elsewhere, I have no way of knowing what that color is.
AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Text Disappeared From Blocks
Oct 1, 2011I have been working on a drawing with 3 different dynamic blocks for several weeks and everything has been working perfectly. However, all of a sudden this afternoon, the text in all 3 dynamic blocks disappeared and will not display on the screen in paper or model space, and does not print.
As best I recall, I was creating a polyline viewport when this text disappeared.
I cannot turn the text on in these dynamic blocks. The text in on layer 0 which is on, and is unlocked and unfrozen. Additionally I have turned on, unlocked and unfroze all layers in the dwg and this does not work. I have also checked the text layer in the block editor and it is on layer 0.
When I click on any of the blocks, all the information appears to be correct, ie: door numbers, text style, etc. The text, however, just does not appear. Also I have never set any invisible text parameters and when I open the block editor, nothing in the invisible text area is selected or select-able.
Previous versions of this drawing, which I saved yesterday, display all block text perfectly. Perhaps there is a setting I accidentally hit which caused this problem?
I have tried repeatedly turning on all the layers, unfreezing, unlocking, changing parameters in the Style menu. I closed Autocad and turned the computer completely off and back on again.

Oct 4, 2012I want to create some symbols which includes text. For example, I have a square with an "F" centered within the square. The problem I am having is when I insert the block into a drawing and rotate it, the "F" also rotates. Is there any way to make it so the "F" is always horizontal no matter how I rotate the block?

Jun 26, 2013I am going through an architectural background, converted over from Revit. I have to go through and routinely burst the object, then qselect, choose what is not equal to bylayer, and change to bylayer.
I don't want to burst everything, making a monster out of the file, but going into every individual block to change the colors within the block to bylayer is also extremely time consuming.
Is there an easier way? maybe a wishlist item for ACAD 2014 to include objects within blocks, when using QSE?

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Changing The Anchor Point
Sep 10, 2013I have a interesting problem with Dynamic blocks that have been created in AutoCAD 2007. The issue that I have is with the anchor point that is set by AutoCAD when creating the block, and whether or not I can assign a different anchor point.
The block that has been created is a dynamic block to designate parcels, and contains the APN (Assessor's Parcel Number, which is hidden), Acreage, a circle, and a digit that displays within the circle. When the block is imported to a drawing, the anchor point itself is NW of the block itself (the distance varies by the scale being used), and I would like to have the anchor point at the south quadrant grip of the circle.
The anchor point poses no problems when being used in AutoCAD, but when the blocks are imported to GIS, the anchor point causes the blocks to snap to the anchor point, rather than where they are placed physically within the AutoCAD drawing. This is a fairly simple fix in GIS, which simply entails moving the highlighted points in to the proper position, but it is a step that I would like to eliminate.

Apr 11, 2011I have a question. I have several 3d models i've set up with 3d blocks in each one. They're separate to cut down on drawing size. I want to create a database of blocks so to speak by copying all the blocks into one drawing. I tried going through Design Center to copy the blocks in, but it won't let me just copy them. Is there a simple way to do this?

Aug 12, 2011Lately our drawings are showing frames around most of our blocks and clipped xrefs. I have set xclipframe to 0 in a drawing and then when I immediately go into the drawing it's like I never set it to 0. This is becomming an issue in a lot of our drawings since switching to 2012. There's only a few of us using 2012 and there are a few using 2011. I was just in a drawing that wasn't showing any frames and then all of a sudden I mirrored somehting and all these frames appeared around the blocks in the drawing. Other than constantly setting xclipframe to 0 this is annoying. This is also a problem now when we send the drawings to consultants. We send it with the frames off but when they get it the frames are on.

Since installing MEP2013 when inserting the blocks many of them have mysteriously changed from inches to millimeter units. We have to go back to each block(dwg) and change the units and rescale the blocks. We upgraded from MEP2012 and they were working fine.

Mar 22, 2013I have a dynamic block symbol. It is a circle with two separate attribute elements at its side, with a line horizontally between them. No, this line is not a text underline; it is a separate line element that in one visibility state of the block must disappear.
My best results for blocks come when the element color of a block's geometry is set to "ByBlock" (attributes I leave as "ByLayer" color), and all of my elements, no matter what, I place on Layer 0. But in the case of this line, it always ends up matching the symbology of the block geometry. This I do not like.
When I insert a block, I use Attribute Editor to change the attributes' layer to the project's appropriate text layer. That way, in case I have to freeze a text layer, the attributes disappear also. What I want is for that line to be able to do the same.
Can an element's layer somehow be dynamically changed to automatically match the layer of another element, without having to Block Editor the block every time this is used from project to project?

Mar 15, 2011I've not done custom hatch patterns in the past, but I'd like to create a custom hatch pattern using a block I have. Is there an easy way to do this?
Would like to make a 8" CMU (section) hatch pattern, as an example, to use in automated sections that I generate.
Pretty easy to see where I'm headed w/ this.
Any easy conversion tool or the ability to explode the block, select everything for a hatch pattern and click "OK".
Likely there isn't, but it never hurts to ask when starting out.
AutoCAD Architecture :: Annotative Blocks In Paper Space (Tab)
Feb 8, 2013I have created a block in the model tab with the annotative scale set at 1'-0" = 1'-0" with the UCS set to World. When the block is inserted in model space either on the model tab or thru viewport it displays and prints correctly. However when the same block is inserted into paperspace on a layout tab the block appears correctly but when printed either hardcopy or PDF it is rotated 90 degress around its insertion. This malfunctions the same whether it is inserted directly or nested in a legend block.
It is also not one particular block or drawing but (mal)functions across drawings and block definitions.
I really don't want to have to make two sets of blocks for the project.

Sep 14, 2013After 20 years of using Autocad thought it time to get serious about putting all my symbolslocks on palettes. Went to design center, selected a folder and right clicked to get "Create Tool Palette of Blocks". Creates a black palettes but no block tools ?
All symbolslocks are individual files. I'm using ACA 2014.
