AutoCad :: Plotting Transparent Solid Hatches - 2011
Sep 6, 2011
Lately I've been trying to plot a drawing with solid hatches of varying transparencies to pdf in Autocad 2011. I have plotted drawings like this successfully before, but with this particular document, the hatches are being rendered with a strange texture of horizontal lines as if printed by an inkjet printer running low on ink. An example is attached - all hatches should be smooth.
zone sections.pdf
I have experimented with some variables and found that it only happens when the layers containing these hatches have any value for transparency other than 0, regardless of whether they overlap.
I've tried copying just the lines and hatches shown in the attachment to a separate dwg and the result is the same.

In Acad 2012 (sp1, w64), it seems that, if a hatch has a scale too big to have something showing into the boundary, it renders as a solid hatch ! (previously, it rendered empty, as expected).
The attached file demonstrates the issue, with "dots" hatch samples at various scales. You can see that, at scale 80, where no point should be visible, it becomes solid !
It's a major annoyance, since I have lots of lisp-based automatic hatching of things, and, while it's not a problem to have an empty hatch whenever the boundary is too small for a given scale, getting a solid hatch instead is a big no-no.
How to get rid of this ?

I'm working in a dwg and any hatch pattern displays solid. I've changed the scale to various sizes, and tried multiple different hatches, but they all show solid. This is the first time I'm working in metric scale, but if this is the issue, my measurement system variable is set to 1 and my units are set to metric.

How can I remove the lines in the middle after I press and pull the objects.
Attached is the Untitle.jpg, to make more clearer to you. Blue is the wall and skyblue is the aquarium. I want the back and the front of the aquarium don't have any line in the middle but even I do shade command the fill of the color is still there. Cause if I explode and delete the line in the middle the colors that fill the aquarium are getting rid off See Untitled 2.Jpg to see what I mean. And also how can make the aquarium Untitle 3.jpg transparent?

After I plot to pdf, I get an error message: You do not have a PDF viewing application installed. Go to the internet and dowload a pdf viewer. The problem is that Acrobat Reader X is installed on my computer. I saw the thread about Reader X having spooling issues, so I reinstalled Acrobat Reader 9. Still get the same message.I can go to the file afterwards and open it, despite this message, but it is supposed to open from Architecture after it is plotted and it won't do that.

I am trying to batch plot 60 .dwg files to PDF. When I do this, it slices off a piece of the title block on the right.
When I plot a single files I can set it to extents, 11x17, and center the plot, and the PDF comes up perfect.
I save this page setup and try to batch plot again, and when there is only one file on the list, my saved page setup is available in the dropdown menu. The second I add another one, my setup disappears from the list, and the import option doesn't appear to work (I choose a .dwg that my setup has been applied to and nothing happens).
Is there a trick to applying a saved page setup to an entire list of drawings in the batch plot utility?

I'm using AutoCAD 2011 with a Ricoh Aficio W3601 plotter. Occassionally I need to plot out pipe wraps for projects that would be longer than a 36" sheet. Our plotter has a 36" x 150' roll capacity. I have figured out how to define a custom user size paper and get it to show up correctly under the properties button in the plot dialogue box. The print preview is correct, and the plotter cuts the paper off at the correct length, however, the printed portion of the plot is always cut off at 36" or is printed the wrong direction and limited by the roll width. I have tried every combination of landscape/portrait combination without success. I am trying to plot from the model tab using a 1:1 scale.

I'm using a HP DesignJet T1100 (non postscript). I have inserted a screen capture of a google map into a sheet as a area/aerial location map for the project. Unfortunately, the jpeg is plotting out as solid black. I have tried inserting it in different ways but same result when plotting. I understand the difference between PS and nonPS plotters/drivers but I was under the impression that there was a setting to plot images in nonPS plotter dialouge box. I did find various incarnations of my question but nothing that directly speaks to it.

I'm laying out a drawing. I use a visual style with facet edges and occluded edges dashed and intersection edges dashed. To give my lines hidden fo fabricators to know witch way to face angle iron and so on. But here is the big problem i do a veiw port with 4 shots 1 isometric solid 1 top hidden lines front hidden lines and right hidden lines. so first time i plot it, it will work fine then i go back to plot then the lines ither become not shown at all or they will be solid. even know the veiwport still shows them as hidden lines. If I delete the veiwport and make a new veiport all over again it will work for a single print then will not show it all over again.

I have created this rendering and for some reason the metal plate which is supposed to be non-transparent is showing up with some transparency.
I'm using the diamond plate material that comes with AutoCAD. There is no transparency setting with this material so I can't set it to non-transparent. Short of trying some different materials, I was thinking there must be some way of resolving this.

Working with AutoCAD 2012:
I have a solid object whose layer I make transparent. It is transparent, but it leaves little grey dots in model space and paper space. Dot size and spacing doesnt' change when I zoom in and out.

I am currently working on an assembly and want to view it as an isometric view, but, I want to see parts behind a particular object. My question, Is there a way to change the transparency of one object without changing the effects of the other parts? I want to be able to see the front object as well as the one behind it.

I have a set of scanned drawings that they wanted marked up via AutoCAD to use for submittals. I made a nice check mark for all the "good" dimensions using a solid green hatch (which plots as green).
I brought the scanned drawings in as xref TIFFs and put my autocad objects over them. Problem is that when I go to PDF them, the check marks are transparent and I really don't want them to be. I've never messed with any transparency settings in our CAD and I've only noticed this issue when printing over top of images.
This is in Carlson 2014 BTW.

Is there a way to overlay a transparent background png image on a solid or mesh that already has a material assigned? i.e. a chrome object with a decal applied. I have tried creating a new material using my png file as the image but have not been able to overlay it on an object where I want to see the material underneath.

I'm trying to make an image I have which has a solid background (and a few other details inside it) transparent? so I can still see behind the graphics in the image yet the background at the same time... I know I've seen it before where the image sort of floats above the background... But I don't know how to accomplish this in Photoshop.

I'm working on a project, and all of a sudden when I ad a outline line width to an object the outline seems transparent to me. I can get it to stop doing this with copying other objects in the scene that have a solid line around them, but as soon as I go back to the other items the transparent line width starts happening again.

In other words, I have a green patterned background, and I want to add a transparent triangle (which should then be the green background by making it transparent) over a white layer. To sum it up, I want the triangle to be filled in with the green patterned background over the white layer. How do I do this?

I am in the process of designing a clear label for my aftershave and would like to have the text on a solid color panel be transparent so that the liquid is visible. I would also like to have an outline (Line) tracing the font. I've been doing some internet searches for "punched out" and "cutout" text and the like but this process is using two solid color layers.
As it stands now, I have a transparent background, the panel as one layer, and the text as another layer on top of the panel.
I came across a process for Illustrator but was hoping that it could be done in Photoshop as well since I have everything already setup in PS. I did try the method described for Illustrator but I couldn't get it to work in PS...not throwing out the high percentage of operator error on this one.

I have been working with Xara for two days now, and it's great! I am using the trial version of Xara Photo & Graphic Designer 9. I created a file with a couple of transparent shapes (love the transparency tool - so easy!), and it looked great. I exported to .pdf, and the transparent gradient was all gone. The shapes are there, but have no gradient whatsoever.
I also exported it as a .jpg and the gradients are present in the .jpg. In other words, the .xar file looks great and the .jpg looks great. Just the .pdf doesn't work.
