When I start an Iso drawing should I use the 3D Views under the View tab and set it to SW Isometric or should I use the Snap/Style/Isometric way? I like using the 3D views, but it doesnt set the drawing up the same. What is the accepted procedure.

This is how standard piping isometric drawings are done, no need for a front view, top view, etc.
Just all dimensions on one isometric view.
I am creating piping drawings for a Power Station and want to dimension from the intersection of the centrelines of all the elbows on the pipe run (just like dimension 300 and 1282 in the picture below).
I've been able to add dim 300 & 1282 by using "Include Route Centerlines" BUT if there's piping created without a piping route this cannot be done.
I don't understand why I cannot get dimension A & B from the standard work features displayed on the elbow or dimension between two elbows just using these work features?
I have been using background masking in Mtext to cover up the mechanical piping in our drawings. It works fine in AutoCAD, but we convert the drawing to pdf and then send the pdf to the printer to make prints. Now
the background masking is not working. You get a line going through the text.
I have not done much isometric work for quite a few years now but i have a new company i am doing some freelance stuff for and the last in house person did all his drawings as isometrics. My problem is not working in isometric but when I switch to paper space..how do I convert those isometric drawings to regular 2d?...this might be basic stuff for some but like I said I haven't done this in quite some time.
They are using AutoCadLT 2005 & Building systems MEP...I usually use AutoCad 2000 at home.
I'm using Autocad LT 2012. If I draw in an isometric view, is there a way to look at each direction to see the different views? For instance if I make a cube, can I hatch all six sides with different colors to show if I'm looking at the correct view?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have been asked by one of my clients to provide an isometric piping diagram for a product that we have modeled/developed for them. We have already provided models, review drawings, design drawings, and fabrication drawings for this product but what they are looking for is a simple isometric pipe diagram where they can hand write their weld test data and put the material data sheet number references. I have submitted a sample of a drawing we completed with an isometric view of this piping as a full view (iso view created by IV) but they are requesting something simpler like they are used to (one-line iso pipe spool-type thing with symbols instead of modeled valves, etc.). I am embarking on a process to get them to change their standard but I was wondering what you experts thought while I am doing this (in case they refuse).
I don't want to create drawing that isn't tied to the model somehow for obvious future-revisions-parametric reasons so I was wondering what you think my options would be for keeping this all in IV (instead of just doing something seperate in AutoCAD.

Any good add on PIPING program for AutCad. We've been using CADPIPE, but every time that they do an update, their program changes default settings. It's getting to the point that it's time to look for a program that will work with autocad and not make me have to reset all of my settings every time I start Cadpipe.

Its as though you were looking up at the ceiling in a room. Using orbit is limited because it flips the surface over (upside down), when trying to view the underside of a surface.

I have a 3DCLIP plane set to only see pipe at a certain elevation. When plotted, some of the pipe lines are missing. If I change the viewport display view, then the piping is fine but random objects show up that shouldn't b/c of my 3DCLIP plane.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was giving an assembly with a lot of piping in it, but the piping wasn't done using the Tube & Pipe. I need to make a drawing of the piping with a BOM. I made an ISO view and turn off the visibility of the parts I didn't need.
My question is if there is way for the BOM to only show the visible parts in my drawings. I know in iAssemblies I can exclude the parts I don't need, but that would take awhile considering there are over a hundred parts in my assembly. I really don't want to redo the piping mainly because of my inexperience with Tube & Pipe.
I need to add 1/8" gaskets to flanged piping. My primary reason for doing this is so I can get the correct length for the pipe. I was planning on simply pulling the flanges back and 1/8" but when I do that it stretches the pipe. Is there a way to detach pipe from fitting or fittings from fittings so I can move them independently.
Or could I just add 1/8" gaskets in there somehow. I'm of course working in 3d. autocad 2007. I can always create fab-drawings by just doing the math with the current drawings but I want to try to get it in the model, just in case.

Basically I want to have one straight pipe, a main line, where another pipe branches off and sticks out vertically from it and goes its own way. However, I want this branching pipe to be welded to the main line, not connected with a tee fitting. Inventor won't let me create branches from within a route, and it doesn't seem to want to let me snap to the existing main line run if I create a new run for the branching pipe.

I can change a dimension, the 3D sketch of the route will update, but the pipe will not move into the correct position. Doing multiple rebuilds and updates does not update the piping.

Recently we upgraded to Autocad 2013. We are using Quickpen Pipe Designer over autocad for piping design.We are experiencing, with some drawings, long opening/saving/closing/xrefing delays.
For example, for a 12Mb drawing it took 5minutes for a Save AS, with no exrefs in the drawing, Close with save took 5minutes, to attach and xref took 5 minutes (2minutes to show the attach dialog and 3minutes after).
Quickpen is saying that is because autocad, but we haven’t seen such delay opening regular autocad drawings (drawings without quickpen entities).
We have some other issues with Quickpen, fittings disappearing from the drawing, trying to bring them back, and using regen and zoom extends will change the view to a odd 3d view or mirror the drawing to an odd angle.
Are there any 3d settings to make the drawing be faster?
I'm trying to utilize the piping and routed systems tool to run some pipe, but when I setup my pipe styles, it cannot find the xml files for the pipe, fittings, etc. I know I am connected to my content server as I can insert individual fittings and manually place pipe lengths. I am running Inventor Professional 2009

When i try to copy paste some drawing entities from a heavy drawing file to any other file, the program blocks and says 'not responding', endlessly. So i always have to shutdown the program. I experience the same problem using the designcenter: when I try to copy a layout into another drawing, my computer gets stuck.
Another annoying problem with these files is that they are so heavy, while in fact they shouldn't be. I tried the aectoacad file command. In result the file id half as big, but after I open it and save it, again is the original size.
Every now and then I go back and try to use publish to speed up printing but I always go back to plotting one by one.
I work in a housing construction office and I have 10 separate drawings side by side in model space for house plans that I need plot separate to give to certain people. My problem isn't that I can't publish them separately its that I can't save them over existing pdf's individually predetermined.
Q1. do i just have to go through and change every layout name before or after i publish?
Q2. how do i change the output publish location?
Q3. can each layout be saved to a different existing pdf and remember it?
Q3. can i save these setting across to a new drawing?
I have modeled a tank(storage) and i need to show some of the piping that is inside the tank. I tried removing some faces and extruding the edges, then some beveling, to show some thickness but that really messes up the smoothing around the hole. Is there a better way to do this to maintain the smoothness?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm currently taking an CAD program and I'm having trouble drawing a few objects in isometric perspective. These objects must unfortunately be drawn in 2D. I've drawn the orthographic perspectives for each object based on the dimensioning given however I'm unsure how to proceed on certain portions of the drawing. This is all homework and I doubt using any customization is allowed.
The first image is a top view of a fixture. I'm having trouble with the central portion which I draw by first constructing the vertical arm then using the array command.
Is there some way to create an array of this object that respects the isoplane that I drew my isocircles in?
If not, I'm able to look at the original using the VPOINT from the 1,-1,1 point and get the perspective that I want. Is there a way to use the UCS and trace over the orthographic perspective then take that traced image back to the world X-Y plane? I've tried this before but once I get it back it simply looks like the orthographic perspective.
The following drawing I'm simply having trouble drawing one particular curve which the green arrow points to. The drawing is of two perpendicular intersecting cylinders one having a slightly smaller radius then the other and the curve in question represents the edge formed by the intersection. The research I've done indicates that it's an ellipse however I'm unsure how to draw it correctly and the one I put in is simply an estimate. How can I construct the correct curve? Even if I could change viewpoints I'm not sure I could find a way to trace this one.
How to draw 2D isometric images from orthographic projections in AutoCAD as it seems many of the sites I find are either trivial or focus on drawing by hand.

I used to use Plant 3D which has the ability to create PCF's and Isometric drawings, but Im now using MEP. for the most part, a better solution for our company, but now we cant create isomtric shop drawings. AutoCAD now has Isometric WS CLoud. how we can create a PCF file from an AutoCAD MEP 2013 drawing? its seems rediculous that it cant?
it seems like Isometric WS is real loser if you can only use with Plant 3D
