AutoCad :: Edit Block In Place Closes
Jan 14, 2013I'm using acad 2010. Twice now this has happened in two days. Using edit block in place. I edit the block, pick save and gone, Acad just closes down, no warning no nothing.

AutoCad :: Edit Dynamic Block In-place
Oct 25, 2011I use refedit quite a bit to edit blocks in-place, but can't find a way to do this with dynamic blocks without breaking the link to the original definition and creating a new block definition.
Is there a setting I can change, or another way to edit a dynamic block in-place?

Nov 8, 2013Untill recently I have been able to edit my blocks or xref files in place. Now when I try do that CAD tells me to select nested item. Is this a setting a changed by mistake? If so what is it?

But why even I clicked "Add to working set" button on the toolbar, it still asks me select "Add" in command line?
Apparently I already selected "Add" button.

May 23, 2013I use AutoCAD for mac 2013. I'm a interior design student and I have a question regarding editing 3D Blocks which can be downloaded from the web.
If I download a 'free' 3D Block, is it possible to edit the block in a way which removes the 'original origin' of that block?? I have tried exploding the block and redefining it in a wblock file and changing the layer. But I'm not sure if this process has removed the original information which it came from...
If there is a way to remove the origin (that is came from the web).
AutoCAD 2010 :: Edit Xref In-Place
Feb 27, 2012When saving an AutoCAD drawing there is a Thumbnail image saved (if you have the option turn on), but when the command "Edit Xref In-Place" is used there is no Thumbnail image saved. So now when I try to preview any drawing that has been edited through this command there is no longer a thumbnail.
I am using AutoCAD 2012 and the option to save a thumbnail is turned ON.

Feb 27, 2012I have some blocks that I want to use to make a drawing. In the attached dwg, there are a few blocks inserted, and a shape made from those blocks.
As they stand, I can send the dimensions of each block into an excel spreadsheet or into a table. However, as you can see, if I want to make that triangle look like a triangle, I need to edit the blocks themselves. I'd like to edit each block in place (even though I'll have to create a new block for the edited version, that's okay), and still be able to reference the length of each block in excel.
If possible, I'd also like to figure out how to reference the angle into excel, so that when I look at the excel table, it tells me that I need that piece of material, cut to that length, with that angle.

Jan 26, 2012We have about 300+ dwg's on which somebody edited the 'xref in place'.
This has caused the particular dwg files to expand from 300k to 4mb.
Purging seems to have no effect. Is there any way of reducing the file size on these back to normality?

May 10, 2012I'm getting very long run times to edit x refs in place. Once the exref drawing opens, sometimes after 2 or three minutes, and I make my edit, It can take ten minuted to close the xref.
Drawing are clean, purged, -purged, recovered audited. Computer is new workstation and dedicated to CAD only. Very little opportunity for corrupted files.

1. You have a base map with survey points inserted.
2. You create a sheet, xref the base map, freeze survey points in base map, insert survey points into sheet so they can be manipulated for visual clarity.
Problem:
In sheet drawing, using the edit xref-in-place command to edit base map causes the points to want to be reinserted and in a lot of cases, when the sheet drawing is re-opened, the points are completely gone.

My problem is that when I am in "edit block in place" mode I am still able to edit the drawing, so that I can still delete or stretch or move certain elements, even though they are not part of the block. This is quite annoying because it leads to unwanted changes and mistakes. Is there a variable or an option to change it and prevent any modification to anything outside of the block?

In this new job, 98% of our drawings are done in a single file with multiple layouts. I would like to set my template up so that things like Rev numbers and drawn by, and checked by etc., are updated in all layouts by changing just the first sheet. I also want to include a field for the drawn date so that it takes the current date (they want the drawn date to reflect the print date rather than the actual drawn date...)
I would like to incorporate attributes for things like checked by, engineer check, and such but make them so they don't appear unless you open the attribute editor.
AutoCad :: Global Edit / Block Attributes Rotation BACK To Match Block Rotation

I got too smart for myself today in bringing an old drawing up to current standards...Everyone seems to want their block attributes to be zero - I have blocks where the attributes are best when they match the rotations of each blocks.
I have an old drawing that was rotated (as it should be) at approx 2deg.
I used a lisp routine to global edit all the blocks that needed to be at zero. BUT for some reason (and after hundreds of blocks were corrected), I noticed I now have two blocks that should NOT have been in the set have had their attributes rotated to zero....and the attributes should be at the same rotation as their block's rotation.
Because those two blocks have a fixed tic mark, I can click on the mark to see what the block rotation is, then rotate its attribute to that rotation, but I have hundreds of blocks! One-at-a-time sucks....
Any chance there is a GLOBAL way to edit an attribute rotation to match its own block's rotation?

Feb 4, 2014I have a staircase from the first floor to second floor with a total of 3 landings.. I need to fix the railing at the bottom to go down to 3'0, right now its sitting at 3' - 6"... AT 3'0" it needs to connect to the handrail that wraps around (the red)...normally I can just edit the railing by pulling it longer but since it was a place on host railing.. it looks like it loops around and when I tried playing around with that to extend the bottom rail.. it gave me an error..
