AutoCad :: Prevent Modifications To Drawing From In Place Block Editor

Oct 2, 2013

I have a problem with the "in place" block editor, mainly because I fail to synthesise a sentence for the search that makes sense. My problem is that when I am in "edit block in place" mode I am still able to edit the drawing, so that I can still delete or stretch or move certain elements, even though they are not part of the block. This is quite annoying because it leads to unwanted changes and mistakes. Is there a variable or an option to change it and prevent any modification to anything outside of the block?

AutoCad :: Automatically Place Number Block Onto Drawing?

Oct 4, 2013

I have a number of areas numbered 1,2,3......etc but I need to change the text to the following where only the last number that is underlined is to increase sequentially.

P23/L2/1

Could Tcount be used or is there a modified version available?

If not is there a quick way to automatically place a number block onto a drawing with a click and then for every other click sequentially increases the last number.

AutoCad :: Dynamic Block Editor In Drawing

Jul 7, 2011

There doesn't seem to be an issue with this block when I open it with the block editor in the drawing where it was created. However, if I insert it into another drawing, it comes in as a block but when I select it, only the insertion point grip is visible. What happened to the parameters and actions? Oh they're still there but I have to open the block editor again for that block and then they display a great distance away from the block itself. This is all in model space with no change to the scale of the block upon insertion.

If I erase the parameters and actions and recreate them, the block behaves correctly in that second drawing but there is still the problem with the original block in my library. The attachment is supposed to be for a portion of metal deck that can be arrayed to whatever length is requied.

AutoCad :: Drawing Disappeared After Saving It In Block Editor?

Apr 18, 2011

I was working on my drawing, using blocks: open block editor, edit block, close editor by clicking cross of closing block editor, then autocad asks me if I want to save changes, I click yes. And one time I clicked the smaller cross, which closes the whole drawing, and intuitionally clicked to save it. So my whole drawing closed. And when I open it, Autocad asks me : "filename.dwg contains authoring elements. Open it in Block Etidor?" yes/no/cancel. If I press Yes, then my drawing opens in block edit mode, and when I click close block editor the whole drawing closes. If I press no, then my drawing opens in normal mode, and I have in it just lines of that block. All layers, titleblocks are there, but my drawing disappeared. Is there any chance to get it back? how? I can't attach this drawing, because it's to large, ~4,7 mb.

AutoCAD .NET :: Clone Object From One Drawing To Another With Modifications

Jan 25, 2011

I have two open drawings, a source and a destination drawing in ACADI have different layers and linetypes in each drawingI need to get the objects on a specified layer in the source drawing and copy them to the destination drawing, but ensure that they are put on a specified layer in that drawing which differs in name from the original drawing.

I've tried coming at this a few different ways, but can't really seem to come a conclusion on how to do this.  WBlockCloneObjects, of course, allows me to clone the items to the new drawing, but in doing so, drags along all the layers and linetypes with it which I don't want "contaminating" my new drawing.  I'm trying to keep the conversion as clean as possible.  I can't pre-change the layer name or linetype, etc as the destination for these values doesn't exist in the source drawing.

Is there a way to create a new entity (an anonymous one, independent of the source ObjectClass that I need so I don't have to create multiple routines to handle each one), not attached to a DB, copy the values from the source DB entity and then modify the layer, linetype, color etc before appending the entity to the destination database?

Here is my code for what I have, but since I don't really have a clue where to turn with this, all this really shows at the moment is a straight cloning of the objects from one DB to another.  As a side note, I'm working in Civil 3D 2011 and when WBlockCloneObjects is called an "AutoCAD Map Messages" window appears with no messages in it.

Public Function CopyLayerContents(ByVal acdocSource As Document, ByVal strSourceLayer As String, ByVal acdocDest As Document, ByVal strDestLayer As String, ByVal bCopyBlocks As Boolean) As Boolean
Dim bComplete = False
Dim acSourceDB As Database = acdocSource.Database
Dim acDestDB As Database = acdocDest.Database
[code]........

AutoCAD LT :: Block Editor Saves Block But When Closing Says Changes Haven't Been Saved?

Mar 28, 2013

I have created a bock in ACAD 2011 LT. I then save the block using the command line or ribbon button then immediately try to close the block editor without moving or changing anything. A dialog appears saying the changes have not been saved to the block and would I like to save? If I say no don't save my changes and reopen the block the changes have in fact been saved.

My question is there a way to get around this dialog box -Suppress it like FILEDIA = 0 for block editor or an option so it doesn't ask me to save.

The goal is to do this all from the command line w/ out dialog boxes.

AutoCad :: Attribute In Title Block Exists In Block Editor But Not In Project

Sep 6, 2012

Autocad 2011, Electrical package,

I have an existing title block a few text attributes, to which I wish to add a watermark. I have added it in the block editor as a normal attribute, with the same details as the other attributes that work, only a different tag name. It has a default value, "DRAFT" and is tagged "WMARK". It works fine in the Block Editor, and If I test the block I can edit it to display whatever I want, but if I save the block and open it from Autocad proper, the attribute is not in existence, either as a default value, or editable from block properties, attribute editor or title block editor, whereas all of the other attributes are there. I have used BattMan to verify the settings of the attribute, and the only difference is that the others all have "L" in the "Modes" column, but I think that means that their position is "locked" whereas my new attribute is justified "aligned" therefore cannot be "locked" (This is some assumption on my part, as the documentation on the "Modes" column is almost non-existent). I cannot afford to waste much more time on this issue, as the boss is breathing down my neck, but editing watermarks on every drawing after every revision is frustrating, when it could be an attribute that is editable from the title block editor.

AutoCad :: Add Some Attributes To Existing Block Using Block Editor

Dec 12, 2013

I'm trying to add some attributes to an existing block using the block editor, but after I save and close it I cannot see any 'placeholders' despite adding a default value and the attributes work fine when I double click the block.

I've tried using the ATTSYNC and BATTMAN commands but nothing works and there are no invisibility states applied to either the attribute or block and all layers are switched on.

I just tried making a quick block from scratch and it seems to have the same affect, except the default value will show, but no 'placeholder' shown if left blank.

I swear with previous version I could see the tag when a value hadn't been applied, so is it that the version I now use (2012) does not have this feature or it's disabled?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Prevent / Block Obsolete Part From Being Used Without Deleting It

Mar 7, 2012

We are using basic Vault and have some parts that are obsolete or duplicates.  We don't currently have the resources to completely replace/purge them in all the assemblies (many of which are old desgns that may never be built again) in which they are used.

Our problem is that engineers keep using these parts in new assemblies and it doesn't get caught until the assemblies are ready to be ordered.  Then the assemblies have to be updated, vendors contacted, etc. to correct the situation.

Is there a way to block a part from being used in the first place without deleting it?  Or some way to alert the engineer that they are using the wrong part?

AutoCad :: How To Prevent Edit Attribute Pop Up Prompt For Entering Text In A Block

Dec 18, 2013

How do I prevent "Edit Attribute" pop up prompt for entering text for an attribute in a block? I just want the same attribute text each time I insert the block, I don't want the "Edit Attribute" popup window to re-enter the same text every single time.

I do want the attribute text so mirror won't reverse it (I just want permanent attribute text).

First I delete the old regular text.Second I give the block an Attribute Definition Tag and enter the text I want in the Tag blank. Third I center where I want the text. Forth I save the block.

When I finally insert the block I get the "Edit Attribute" pop up to renter what I want it to say. Like I said earlier, I don't want this pop up, I just want to enter the text once and that's it. Also if I enter nothing in the "Edit Attribute" pop up, then no text will show on the block.

AutoCad 3D :: Can UCS Be Moved In Block Editor

Mar 20, 2013

I am building finished piping assemblies from a collection of smaller parts I have been creating and saving with WBLOCK. I found a mistake on one of my parts(I needed to rotate a piece of pipe). Because the sub-part was part of the complete assembly, I could not rotate the sub-part independently so I opened the block in the block editor. Apparently, and this was my original question, UCS commands do not work in the block editor. The result of this fact was that I could not rotate the sub-assembly in the direction it needed to go. So first question: Can the UCS be moved in the block editor? It focused on exploding blocks that would not explode. I thought if I could simply explode the block back into its component parts, I could rotate the sub-assembly. This is where everything went to hell.

I am not even sure what happened but now I have a new definition of the block that will still not explode, references itself, includes other parts I don't want and is just generally making me PDM. I figure it will be easier to just delete the entire block and redraw the components rather than trying to fix my mess. I did try the undo command but it apparently will not undo the changes to the block definition. Second question: How do I remove all traces of a block saved with BLOCK and WBLOCK so I can start fresh?

Third question: I will not create another block until I learn more about them. Any reference related to intelligent block creation?
