AutoCad :: Drawing Disappeared After Saving It In Block Editor?
Apr 18, 2011
I was working on my drawing, using blocks: open block editor, edit block, close editor by clicking cross of closing block editor, then autocad asks me if I want to save changes, I click yes. And one time I clicked the smaller cross, which closes the whole drawing, and intuitionally clicked to save it. So my whole drawing closed. And when I open it, Autocad asks me : "filename.dwg contains authoring elements. Open it in Block Etidor?" yes/no/cancel. If I press Yes, then my drawing opens in block edit mode, and when I click close block editor the whole drawing closes. If I press no, then my drawing opens in normal mode, and I have in it just lines of that block. All layers, titleblocks are there, but my drawing disappeared. Is there any chance to get it back? how? I can't attach this drawing, because it's to large, ~4,7 mb.

My drawing- block is a little bit complicated, it contains few actions and parameters and everytime i open block editor to add, or to modify some action I can't see my drawing because actions grips and parameters grips obscure my drawing. I tried to refresh layout but it doesn't work.
please take a look on attached jpg.

There doesn't seem to be an issue with this block when I open it with the block editor in the drawing where it was created. However, if I insert it into another drawing, it comes in as a block but when I select it, only the insertion point grip is visible. What happened to the parameters and actions? Oh they're still there but I have to open the block editor again for that block and then they display a great distance away from the block itself. This is all in model space with no change to the scale of the block upon insertion.
If I erase the parameters and actions and recreate them, the block behaves correctly in that second drawing but there is still the problem with the original block in my library. The attachment is supposed to be for a portion of metal deck that can be arrayed to whatever length is requied.

I have a problem with the "in place" block editor, mainly because I fail to synthesise a sentence for the search that makes sense. My problem is that when I am in "edit block in place" mode I am still able to edit the drawing, so that I can still delete or stretch or move certain elements, even though they are not part of the block. This is quite annoying because it leads to unwanted changes and mistakes. Is there a variable or an option to change it and prevent any modification to anything outside of the block?

I have this north arrow that is not working in a clients drawing. Look at this drawing with the block in it and determine why the arrow head is filled in the block editor but not filled in the drawing (model space)???

I have created a bock in ACAD 2011 LT. I then save the block using the command line or ribbon button then immediately try to close the block editor without moving or changing anything. A dialog appears saying the changes have not been saved to the block and would I like to save? If I say no don't save my changes and reopen the block the changes have in fact been saved.Â
My question is there a way to get around this dialog box -Suppress it like FILEDIA = 0 for block editor or an option so it doesn't ask me to save.Â
The goal is to do this all from the command line w/ out dialog boxes.

Autocad 2011, Electrical package,
I have an existing title block a few text attributes, to which I wish to add a watermark. I have added it in the block editor as a normal attribute, with the same details as the other attributes that work, only a different tag name. It has a default value, "DRAFT" and is tagged "WMARK". It works fine in the Block Editor, and If I test the block I can edit it to display whatever I want, but if I save the block and open it from Autocad proper, the attribute is not in existence, either as a default value, or editable from block properties, attribute editor or title block editor, whereas all of the other attributes are there. I have used BattMan to verify the settings of the attribute, and the only difference is that the others all have "L" in the "Modes" column, but I think that means that their position is "locked" whereas my new attribute is justified "aligned" therefore cannot be "locked" (This is some assumption on my part, as the documentation on the "Modes" column is almost non-existent). I cannot afford to waste much more time on this issue, as the boss is breathing down my neck, but editing watermarks on every drawing after every revision is frustrating, when it could be an attribute that is editable from the title block editor.

My material editor won't appear when I click the button on my tool bar. The button toggles between on/off but the material editor menu never actually shows up. I've restarted my computer, I've minimized then maximized the program window, I've moved the program window back and forth between both of my monitors, I've tried opening it by hitting "M"...nothing seems to work.

When the block is in a drawing and I click it, it takes me to block editor.
However if I go to it in block editor and test block it allows me to change the attributes.
Why does clicking the block go to block editor and not allow me to change its attributes as it does when I test block.

I want to move the base point of a block in the block editor. However, when I move it, the block moves accordingly in the drawing.
How can i move the base point in the editor, so that the block stays at the same position in the drawing.

I was in process of editing a block in "block editor" mode. I saved the dwg and exit instead of saving the block, exit block editor and then exit the dwg. When I opened again the dwg what I see on display is just the block. How to close the block and open the entire dwg?

I'm trying to add some attributes to an existing block using the block editor, but after I save and close it I cannot see any 'placeholders' despite adding a default value and the attributes work fine when I double click the block.
I've tried using the ATTSYNC and BATTMAN commands but nothing works and there are no invisibility states applied to either the attribute or block and all layers are switched on.
I just tried making a quick block from scratch and it seems to have the same affect, except the default value will show, but no 'placeholder' shown if left blank.
I swear with previous version I could see the tag when a value hadn't been applied, so is it that the version I now use (2012) does not have this feature or it's disabled?

I have several blocks saved as separate .DWGs, some of which are dynamic. I want to review and test these blocks, but I can't find a way to open the existing block definitions in the Block Editor without first inserting the blocks into a drawing.

I've upgraded from Photoshop CS to CS3 (been a user since ver 4) ... but I noticed that the Gradient Editor has disappeared. Well, I can open it up, but there's nowhere to edit the colour stops! It was DEFINITELY there and usable in version CS, but when I opened the same file in CS (which is still installed on the pc), the Gradient Editor has also now lost the colour stop editor! I've tried looking for it in the palettes, looked for it in the Windows and View dropdown menus, double-clicked the Gradient button in the Toolbox, clicked on everything from the Gradient Toolbar, clicked on the top righthand arrow, clicked on the gradient swatches, but a big fat zip naadaa! Anyone ever experienced anything like this before? I'm wondering if I'd be better off just uninstalling and reinstalling everything and making sure I then also un-install the older version to make sure there aren't any conflicts, but I actually PREFER to keep CS available, just in case there are any problems in CS3 - such as this one. Unless, of course,

I created a map by using mapwspace and the FDO connections to shp files. Lately, when I have made changes in the style editor such as adding a thematic rule with a feature label, these changes are not "sticking" after the drawing has been saved.
I have deleted the associated idx files but it has not worked.
The drawing is saved at the end of the day but when I open it up the next day, the Style Editor changes are not there. I have been using MAP3D 2013 for over a year but this specific issue has occured only in the past couple of weeks.

I am building finished piping assemblies from a collection of smaller parts I have been creating and saving with WBLOCK. I found a mistake on one of my parts(I needed to rotate a piece of pipe). Because the sub-part was part of the complete assembly, I could not rotate the sub-part independently so I opened the block in the block editor. Apparently, and this was my original question, UCS commands do not work in the block editor. The result of this fact was that I could not rotate the sub-assembly in the direction it needed to go. So first question: Can the UCS be moved in the block editor? It focused on exploding blocks that would not explode. I thought if I could simply explode the block back into its component parts, I could rotate the sub-assembly. This is where everything went to hell.
I am not even sure what happened but now I have a new definition of the block that will still not explode, references itself, includes other parts I don't want and is just generally making me PDM. I figure it will be easier to just delete the entire block and redraw the components rather than trying to fix my mess. I did try the undo command but it apparently will not undo the changes to the block definition. Second question: How do I remove all traces of a block saved with BLOCK and WBLOCK so I can start fresh?
Third question: I will not create another block until I learn more about them. Any reference related to intelligent block creation?

I haven't reviewed the recommended posts, but just a quick question. I am in the 'Dynamic Block Editor' command. I am trying to add a stretch application to the block (a simple section flag), and I have success up until the point where I save and go back into the drawing. There I do not get a pull-down tab and it will not allow me to stretch where I have defined the block through the 'Parameters' and 'Actions' tabs.

After I edit a block in the block editor, It regens to a blank black screen. Then I have to zoom extents and zoom back to where the block is. Is this normal? I would think it'd be better if it just put you back to where you were working. I understand the regen probably is necessary to change all the blocks that need to be updated. Just wonder why it puts you to a blank space.

tube_block2.dwg
P.S. I have tryied mline, it works, but I wonder if it works without mline (I don't like them).

I just installed LT2013 and migratet my settings from LT2008.
Doubleclicking on a blok openes the block editor in LT2008, but not in LT2013.
In LT2008, the main cui file was acadlt.cui. And in this file the "block - double click" action was specified. And it worked in LT2008. I have my own cui-file which not contains any doubleclick-actions.
In LT2013, after migration from LT2008, the mail cui file is now my own cui-file (which not contains any doubleclick actions). Is this why it doesnt work ?
I have tryed to copy a doubleclickaction from acadlt.cui to "my own cui-file". And now it works.
Is this because "my " cui file now is the main cui file ? Why is "my" cui file the main cui file after migration ? is there a way to change, so acadlt.cui becomes the main cui file ?
If not, is there a way to transfer alle settings from acadlt.cui to "my" cui file ? I know i can do this one action of a time in "transfer".

I have few hundred drawings ( used as symbols) I have to update; the issue I have is that many of them are dynamic blocks. When I process them, the program stops when opening one of those drawings having authoring elements. Is there any way to go over that message instead of clicking "No" every time?

I am working with 2013 in 2D
Somehow I switched my UCS without noticing from X,Y,X to Z,Y,X. Though the UCS was changed my layout never switched orientation (flat square remained flat square and did not turn into a line).
I was alerted to the error when inserting the blocks. Half of the blocks were showing up as thin lines (in the Z plane) and half where showing up in the X plane.
I was able to correct the UCS by typing UCS, world view, then PLAN, current.
My question now: How can I fix the blocks that where "created" in the Z plane so that they can be inserted into the X plane without having to 'rotate3d' every time I insert a block?

I'm starting to wonder if I need to reset my program. When I click on my blocks, it won't allow me into block editor. I checked, and my Blockeditlock variable is set to zero, which should allow me in. But alas, it does not. When I type in "blockeditor" it says "read only". Which it's never done before.

i use autocad lite 2012 and it works fine except for when i edit a block (either block editor or block in place) when i open the block i can edit it fine but then when i go to close the block and save changes my computer will usually lag and most likely autocad will crash. i then lose all the work that i did in the block. i don't know how to fix this problem but it takes time out of the day. and always have to redo the work.
sometimes editing the block will only lag when it closes for after 10 seconds and other times it never goes back to the model and cad crashes
a side note is that i tried REFEDIT and the same problem still happens.Â
