I am working on Xrefs in autocad, I come across one scenario as below,
AutoCAD application is not allowing me, when tring to "Edit Reference In Place" mode for read only xref file. and displaying below dialog box.
When saving an AutoCAD drawing there is a Thumbnail image saved (if you have the option turn on), but when the command "Edit Xref In-Place" is used there is no Thumbnail image saved. So now when I try to preview any drawing that has been edited through this command there is no longer a thumbnail.
I am using AutoCAD 2012 and the option to save a thumbnail is turned ON.
I am trying edit an Xref in place in a sheet file both through the paper space view port or within the sheet file's model space but receive a pop-up warning that states "Selected Xref Block is NOT editable". Other sheet files are set up the same way and allow edit Xref in-place.

We have about 300+ dwg's on which somebody edited the 'xref in place'.
This has caused the particular dwg files to expand from 300k to 4mb.
Purging seems to have no effect. Is there any way of reducing the file size on these back to normality?
I'm getting very long run times to edit x refs in place. Once the exref drawing opens, sometimes after 2 or three minutes, and I make my edit, It can take ten minuted to close the xref.
Drawing are clean, purged, -purged, recovered audited. Computer is new workstation and dedicated to CAD only. Very little opportunity for corrupted files.
Scenario:
1. You have a base map with survey points inserted.
2. You create a sheet, xref the base map, freeze survey points in base map, insert survey points into sheet so they can be manipulated for visual clarity.
Problem:
In sheet drawing, using the edit xref-in-place command to edit base map causes the points to want to be reinserted and in a lot of cases, when the sheet drawing is re-opened, the points are completely gone.
Untill recently I have been able to edit my blocks or xref files in place. Now when I try do that CAD tells me to select nested item. Is this a setting a changed by mistake? If so what is it?

some problem we encountered after binding the xref become a block mostly like a baseplan & equipment system . can't edit block In-place in block references in latest autocad 2014 LT.
I'm now able to import my Cr2 files and look at in APE11 but as soon as I go to the Editor it tells me it cant. Is there somewhere to also put the new 8.3 update for my 70D camera in the editor?

I am trying to place a simple Ifeature, its basically an offset from reference geometry but when I place the ifeature it offsets the feature the wrong side of the line.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn 5.3 I can create reference dimensions in sketch mode to my hearts content. They became very valuable as I would use them to determine placement of multiple features. Now, in IV 7, I have alot of trouble creating reference dimensions from adjacent features on the same surface. I have to change the way I'm working now and it has stumped me on a few occasions. is there a "new" feature I need to enable or is this the cost of progress?

-Open drawing
-Saveas as NEW drawing based on certain criteria from DCL menu
-Deletes old drawing
-*THEN, if drawing contain attached IMAGE FILE (.tiff in my case)
-Rename image file and repath image file based on the new file name
I have gotten it to do all of this, except I can not figure out how to change the "reference name" of the attached image file (.tiff)
Is this read-only data? I can manualy change it under xref manager, so there should be a way to do it via code...
The closest I have gotten:

While working on a complicated project involving copying and pasting into PSCS4 from several applications I received this error and Photoshop closed down with loss of my work.
I'm in Windows XP Pro SP3 and using a workstation with 2GB of error correcting memory. I had no such problems in PS3 and other applications work fine.
I had this working just fine, then made some changes (including deleting some reference planes) and now I can't get it to work. I need to lock a diagonal reference plane to the intersection of 2 orthogonal reference planes, so that my door (on an angle) will slide toward the fixed corner, instead of the corner moving toward the door. It must be something simple I did the first time that I'm just not thinking of this time around...
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was trying to play around with the software to get to know it, and... well, I think I made something weird in it. Everything was flowing nicely when I was following the tutorial about Editing Objects: I created a box, I selected that edit poly option from the modify tab and I could edit vertices totally nicely.
But then, I really don't know what happened, but, I don't know exactly when, I suddenly could not move the vertices AT ALL. They are pretty visible, but when I select them, they turn red and the axis are not editable! I'm so confused! I can edit the axis very normally if I'm using an option like Select and Move but... With the edit poly thing I just cannot! I tried everything I thought of: Made a new box, restarted the program, restarted the PC! But NOTHING worked.
EDIT: It took me almost an hour to figure out I wasn’t selecting the Select and Move tool!

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an old map showing a plan of all the fields that used to exist in this area. It is just black lines and words. I need to see through this plan and place it exactly at the right size and orientation using two buildings (which are shown on both maps) as reference points. To do this I will need to resize and rotate the field plan over the modern map, anchoring the first farm point then pull second farm point to overlay on the modern map. I will then be able to see how all the old fields sit in their modern environment and which old boundaries still exist.
Even making the white transparent leaving just the black lines of the plan would be a great start.The field plan is saved as JPEG and the modern one is TIFF. Does this matter?
I have a series of drawings created in AutoCad Electricla 2012.
Each drawing has a raster image attached with a path from a different computer.
When I try to edit the drawing or re-reference the iamge path, the program crashes.
I've tried saving the drawings down to an earlier version 2007/2010.
When I attach an Xref to the file I am working with, it is dimmer in color. Is there a way to edit the xref file so that it appears brighter & easier to read. I seem to call this ability in some previous training, but I cannot seem to figure out how to change it.
View 6 Replies View RelatedAutoCAD 2008.I have read numerous articles saying that AutoCAD has made this feature drawing specific as opposed to an overall setting. What this means is that every drawing you edit layers in a xref, you get pop ups stating that layers have changed. Especially annoying when you are publishing a set of drawings. Does any overall command to turn this nonsense off completely? Or a command that will reconcile the layers automatically without the pop up message?
Any way to just bind a raster image into an autocad drawing, without having it show up in the xref manager?
I'm using acad 2010. Twice now this has happened in two days. Using edit block in place. I edit the block, pick save and gone, Acad just closes down, no warning no nothing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have some blocks that I want to use to make a drawing. In the attached dwg, there are a few blocks inserted, and a shape made from those blocks.
As they stand, I can send the dimensions of each block into an excel spreadsheet or into a table. However, as you can see, if I want to make that triangle look like a triangle, I need to edit the blocks themselves. I'd like to edit each block in place (even though I'll have to create a new block for the edited version, that's okay), and still be able to reference the length of each block in excel.
If possible, I'd also like to figure out how to reference the angle into excel, so that when I look at the excel table, it tells me that I need that piece of material, cut to that length, with that angle.
I use refedit quite a bit to edit blocks in-place, but can't find a way to do this with dynamic blocks without breaking the link to the original definition and creating a new block definition.
Is there a setting I can change, or another way to edit a dynamic block in-place?
Is it possible to select an object for reading in an XRef?
PS I think it has something to do with Editor.SelectNestedEntity() but it is the end of a long day and I can't fathom it out
I am having a problem with editing in place in Inventor 2012. Some parts will edit in place and some won't. Attached are a couple of files I am using which has this problem. I need the other assemblies in place so that I can locate a hole inline with a threaded insert.
