AutoCad 3D :: Rotate Boxes And Cylinders And Constrain To 90 Degree Rotations?
Dec 7, 2012
I am just getting started. I am modeling some tanks pumps and piping. How can I 3d rotate boxes and cylinders and constrain to 90 degree rotations?

I design a small plant in Autocad 2012. For the pipes we used cylinders and boxes(for square pipe), now we need to make the bill of materials, but I don't know how to extract the data from each cylinder(radius and height) or box.
It is possible to do this?
I place a small sample from the plant. Totally I am having around 6000 elements.

I'm using AutoCAD 2012 and I'm having a problem with 3D orbit. For some reason I can only rotate the view 180° along the X axis. Y and Z are fine, I can rotate a full 360°, but the X axis "bottoms out" if I try to rotate the view more than 180°. Is there something toggled that's causing this?

I'd like to orient a picture of a book so that it's on a 45 degree angle and then "cut out" the area around the "book" to that when you view the picture is looks like a book on a 45 degree angle with no area around it. I'm sure GIMP can do that but the question is whether I can put that same photo on a website and have it look like it's a book on a45 degree angle.

I need to constrain a handle to a butterfly valve and add a parameter for rotating the handle angle. I can't achieve this as when I constrain the handle to the valve the handle will not rotate without breaking the positional constraints.
I've tried looking at the door swing posts but they don't use circular objects and I can't get them to work for my valve.

I received a drawing from a client, which has all the features on a coordinate system, But the drawing is rotated for some reason. Even after rotating the drawing the coordinates are the same as it was prior to rotation. I believe there may be some variables that has been changed for this. If a line is drawn A@100<0 it is drawn vertical instead of horizontal and like wise @100<90 is drawn horizontal instead of vertical.
Attached is the drawing.

I'm having two assembly issues. I've attached the parts that I made and a little sketch to make it clear what's going on.
First, you'll see two curved pieces attached to a cylinder. I can't make the wholes on the side line up and mate. I'll get mates but they're in the wrong places. The two holes on the side of curved bar should meet up with the two holes on the straight cylinder.
For the second one, I can't get the smaller armpit piece to fit inside the larger, black piece. I've gotten so it seems snug but then one little part of the "plastic" piece sticks out the top of the black piece. Hopefully the drawings make it clearer, but I attached the parts as well.

I'm trying to automate a simple yet massively tedious task at the moment. Certain layers of my drawings contain 3D Polylines that have to be converted to cylinders. What I need to do is select all 3D Polylines in a specific layer and automatically convert them to cylinders, these cylinders will all share the same hardcoded diameter, however will retain the x,y,z, positioning of the 3D Polylines. The way that I'm approaching i'm attempting right now is to use a selection filter to select all 3D Polylines, save their co-ordinates into an array, create the cylinders using these co-ordinates and then deleting the existing polylines.

I have created the model in the picture in AutoCad, but I do not know how to create it in Inventor. In Inventor I Know how to extrude and draw 2d/3d sketches, but this simple model it is impossible to me.
It is a simple 3D part, no sheet metal or pipe. It is an structure. I have copied it sliced to make more clear the geometry that I am looking for create.

Can add selection boxes or pick boxes to a block?
Here's the situation. I have a block that will be inserted showing a piece of angle iron that is used for a stiffener. We have various sizes that will need to be used. Instead of typing in the angle size each time it's inserted can I have a list of all the angle sizes and then a pick box or radial dial or something to be selected and that is what is put in the block?

When you rotate an object less than 1 degree, the local axis is no longer aligned with an object?
For example you have a wheel which rotate nicely along it's central axis, then you tilt the wheel by 0.5 degree and when you rotate around it's central axis, the wheel wobbles. The pivot point actually doesn't rotate with the object for rotations less than 1 degree...
EDIT: Video demonstrating the issue: [URL] ....

In Photoshop 6.0, if I had the Move tool selected, I was able to make an outline with fouv squares appear around my image by pressing ctrl + t. I was then able to shrink the image, rotate it, etc., by grabbing the four squares that appeared around the image and moving them.
Ctrl + t no longer appears to work in CS6. Is there a new shortcut?

"Modelling Operation Error: Change in topology detected."

How to set a value and label the “degree of curvature” for the horizontal alignment (HA)?
As the radius of the circular alignment (R) is calculated from the “degree of curvature” (attached) then I couldn’t figure out how to select a particular value for the “degree of curvature” (R=1718.8/Da) and then to label the horizontal alignment with it.

I am trying to create an expression so that I can put the Dc into my alignment curve label. I am using (5729.58/Radius) for the expression and using Double for the format which comes out fine in decimal form as in a curve with a 200' R comes out to be 28.6479º, the problem is that I need it to come out as Angular DMS... when I switch the format to angle it comes back as 1641º24'14".

I'm trying to join a helix onto a 90 degree bend but I can't get the 2 ends to marry up.
I am self taught so I don't know all the commands but I understand the concept from using Maya / 3Ds Max in the past.
Also why do I see the diagonal lines at the end of the 90 degree?
