I have a drawing of tower in 3d, i want to put all the drawing in 2d only so that i can trim some part of the lines, is it possible to put the 3d in 2d in one level only, i mean one axis.

I have tried to trim out a portion of the contours, which i don't need, using extrim command but it doesn't trim any of the contour lines. By the way i am trying out the trial of Autodesk sketch book designer, (not to be confused with sketchbook pro). it has vector graphics in it and has some neat ideas xara could benefit from. Check out the video, i like the direct transformable fills. also the way lines are handled.

When I initiate the trim command with a double enter (i.e. select all mode), I usually first zoom into the area I want to trim so I see no other objects, then start the trim <Enter><Enter> option, then pick the lines I want to trim. Even if these extend off the screen and cross other objects (not seen on the screen), they usually trim off completely. However, on occassion they don't. To replicate the problem try this:
Draw 2 vertical lines and 2 horizontal intersecting (like noughts and crosses)Draw a horizontal line that intersects both vertical lines but up near the top of those linesZoom in so you only see the square and extending lines (but not the short horizontal line)Trim <Enter> <Enter> and pick from bottom right to top left (i.e. around the squareZoom out.
The square is trimmed, however there are 2 line fragments left above the horizontal short line.
Fix: UndoTrim the same way and presto, it now works I found if I then moved the line above (so only a small amount), zoomed in again, tried to trim - same error.
I'm using ACA 2008 and used to be able to pick two lines that didn't physically cross each other and use the trim command to trim them based on where they would cross if they extended to each other. But it doesn't seem to do it anymore.
Best way I can describe it is it used to trim at the apparent interest ion of where they would come together. I'm sure there's some easy fix to this, just don't know where it's at.

We recently upgraded to Autocad Architecture 2013 and the trim command is driving me mental. Lets say I have a window mullion pattern with 4 intersecting lines and I want to trim out the center. (see attached example) I start the trim command, then right to left window to select the 4 lines, then use another right to left selection window to trim out the lines. It always leaves on of the lines leaving me to have to click one more time. This is a huge pain when you have to do this multiple times. That is a lot of extra clicks. What gives? I never had this issue before.

For example, if I have a part with [steel mild] material assinged to it (no matter the size) I need a column in the BOM on the drawing to show: 490.684 lbs/ft^3. "Worry when there's something to worry about."
I want to trim off the top of the lines in the picture below. I used white lines to cover the top to show you what look I wanted to achieve, However, I know that using white lines to cover it up is not a practical solution for my application. I know that I should be messing with the pathfinder tool but I just can't get it to work right for me. I am pretty new to illustrator and Photoshop.

I am drawing shapes using the rectangle, ellipses and trying to join them together. How do i trim 2 lines together to make a corner. I would like to cut off the exess at the ends by cutting to the other lines. I know this seems basic but I can't figure it out. In the end I want to make a figure using all the drawing tools ( pen, line, shapes etc) and have the outline just one feature.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am doing a .idw drawing of an assembly that I have several parts that I do not want to appear in the BOM parts list. I have therefore set these parts as Reference parts however this has caused them to appear as "hidden type" lines in the drawing and are even visible through other parts.
Is there any way to make these parts appear in the drawing "as normal" and not be listed in the parts list?
I don't know if it is a bug or a setting, but in Inventor 2014, when I work on a part inside an assembly, with hidden lines visible, I am not able to see hidden lines from other parts.
is this a bug in Inventor 2014, or can this be changed in settings?
I really need that x-ray overview when projecting edges from hidden parts.
Is there way that within a drawing view, hidden lines can be shown for only some of the parts of an assembly, rather than just being a global toggle setting for the whole view? I know that it is possible to hide individual lines, but It would be good to be able to do this on a part basis, as some drawings can have thousands of hidden lines that would need to be selected and turned off.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a 3D drawing I created in AutoCAD 2014 64bit that is not printing properly. When you look at a print preview everything shows up and looks like it should print properly. However, when I print parts of lines are missing. Example, I have a rectangle and only half of it prints. Only two sheets out of eight do not print properly and all started as the same template. I have tried everything as follows:
Checked the layers were set to plot. Made sure the lines were not on defpoints. Moved all the items that do not print properly to the front. I am not using a ctb or stb file.
I have purged. I have audited. I have tried copying to a new drawing and creating my viewports again. I tried changing the quality from Normal to Maximum. I tried printing to a printer, to Adobe PDF, to CutePDF, to DWGtoPDF.pc3, and to PDF995. All of which gave me slightly different areas missing.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAt my company when producing drawings for manufacture we require a sheet for any steel profiles to be cut!..We do this by selecting the assembly from base view,hitting model view tab, selecting presentation and choosing the relevant profile from the drop down!
Once the profile is placed, we highlight the view and hit the parts list tab which obviously creates a parts list, but for the whole assembly, we then have to edit the parts list by turning off the visibility of the lines of all the parts which are not relevant!!...as you can imagine this is quite a laborious task if you have 50 different profiles.
The reason for this is to show the qty, steel grade and part number to the suppliers. My question is, any code that will take the lines of the parts list that are not relevant to the selected view and turn the visibility of those lines off?
I'm having issues involving hidden lines that should not be hidden lines in the idw environment.
I am using Inventor 2010 suite, 64-bit. I have largish assembly modeled with several sub-assemblies and a few reference assemblies. Some of the reference models are shrinkwraps from other large assemblies (surface type shrinkwrap, link broken), and other reference models are acutal assemblies that I am unable to shrinkwrap because I need the positional reps that they provide.
When I place my parent assembly, with all the normal and reference models included, on an idw, large portions of the reference models do not show up. If I change my line style to show hidden lines, the missing parts show up. At first, I thought that it may be because the reference parts in question were not originally in the view due to the reference data margin, so I started a new sheet and set the margin large enough to show the entire machine, as well as the state of Michigan, before I set the base view, but I still don't get those parts unless I enable hidden lines.
Even at that, Inventor is not behaving consistently. Some of the parts that won't show unless hidden lines enabled are fabricated parts that I or a co-worker modeled, some of the parts were imported from SAT, STEP and IGES files, and some of them are shrinkwrap parts. On top of that, some of the parts will show up normal (without hidden lines shown) if I change the part's BOM structure from reference to normal, while others still will not show unless hidden lines are enabled, regardless of the BOM structure. Keep in mind, none of these parts are hidden behind anything in the model, even with everything visible in my design view rep, so what's causing Inventor to think these parts are hidden.

In AutoCad in a drawing with multiple parts I use lines / rectangles to separate each part.
So the drawing gets clear.
How can this be done in Inventor?
With the lines connected to the border?
I'm not sure if there's a way to stop this, but whenever I add parts to an assembly and switch to the drawing of the assembly, the hidden lines for those parts show up in every view of the assembly. Right now I'm having to go to each view and select the hide hidden lines option for each part. Is it possible to stop the hidden lines from showing up everytime I add a part?

I'm having some problems when using the DWG to PDF. When we open our PDF the parts of our drawings will be very light. It appears that most of the time it is only circles or arcs that are coming up lighter than the specified lineweight. When the PDF is printed everything comes out as desired, but we need good looking digital copies as well.
I found some stuff talking about using the correct CTB and some other things of that nature, but I am pretty new to autocad (and self-taught) so there are several basics things that I probably missed out on and could use some clarification on.
i am using AC2013LT and have come accross a problem with the printing. I have completed my drawings, converted them to PDF(image 1) and when i print the PDF out, there are parts of the drawing missing as image 2 shows. If i plot direct from autocad, there is no problem with the print.
