AutoCad 3D :: Emboss Colour Changes Onto Part Face

Sep 14, 2012

I have embossed text onto a part face with an assigned colour of white (main part colour is black). That is all fine in the part model, and indeed when I use that part in a sub-assembly. But, when I use that sub-assembly in a larger top-level assembly the text is black (which doesn't show up too well on a black background ). I must be missing something in a setting but I can't find it. As a test I brought another white-on-black embossed part into the same top-level assembly and that is absolutely fine.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Change Select Set Face Colour Simultaneously?

Mar 19, 2013

Is there any way to change the colour of all faces in a select set simultaneously?

The method I am referring to is when you select faces in a part document, rickt click and select properties from the context menu, a dialog box pops up called "Face Properties" which prompts you to select a colour and click OK. when this is done all of the faces are changed at once.

How do I replicate this via the API?

Currently I have it iterate through each face in a part document and apply the colour override one by one which can take a while when there are about 1000 faces. You can see each face changing as you go.

once selected it says in the selection box that 15 edges are selected, and I can't ctrl click to remove any of them singly, basically it will deselect them all? I have made sure I have loop select off.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Visible Sketch Dimensions On Face Of Part?

Jan 8, 2013

I'm making a part and am adding features to it and using my existing sketch dimensions as my guide. The problem is that when there are sketch dimensions on the face of the part, they are difficult to read. I'm forever dragging these dims to the side in order to read them, it's just a bit annoying. I was wonering if there was a setting that made them show up as well as they do when the aren't sitting on the face of my parts. I've attached a .jpg of what I'm talking about. notice the dimension on the left side and the bottom.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Drawing View Aligned To Part Face

Nov 7, 2013

I frequently use the "Make Components" feature in order to derive assembly parts from solid bodies in a single master part file. Then I can quickly align the parts in the assembly with the "Ground and Root Component" utility. However, when the part is placed at an angle, the derived part becomes misaligned in the viewports of my idw files after the part gets rotated to a new angle. Then I have to manually reset the rotation by editing each viewport and selecting "View Face." If the angle has changed only slightly, sometimes I won't notice the difference, and I'll forget to re-align my viewports. Is there some way to automatically keep a viewport aligned with an specific face on a part?

If that's not possible, I guess the simplest method would be to place each part into its own assembly and constrain it to the global UCS, but I don't want to have to do that for every angled part in my assembly.

I also considered drawing only sketch blocks in my master file for the angled components, and deriving the sketch blocks to create parts that are properly aligned with the origin planes in their respective ipt files, but with that method I'd end up with a more complex master file with lots of exported parameters and extra working geometry, and I'd have to constrain these parts manually instead of using "Ground and Root Component."

AutoCAD Inventor :: Emboss In Assembly

Sep 20, 2012

Is there a way I can use the emboss feature in an assembly? We typically laser mark during final assembly and would like to show that as a step in the assembly instructions.

I typically create a sketch with the text and extrude(cut) in the assembly. It works fine for flat surfaces, but cannot do it for other surfaces.

The one way I can think of doing it would be creating ipart with text and using it in the assembly. I would rather not do it this way.  Is there any other way to accomplish this with out altering the components (.ipt)?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Replacing Colour Of Faces With Another Colour In One Hit (Parasolid File)

Aug 17, 2012

I'm just started using inventor 2013 (from 2010) & the way colours/materials are applied has completely changed so I'm learning again from scratch.

Here's my issue: A customer has sent a casting to me in Parasolid format. When I open it, all the unmachined surface are blue & look a bit garish. However, the colours of the machined faces are ok & I wish to keep them.

So, I want to chage all the surfaces that are blue - I can use the picker & select all the blue faces seperately (by holding CTRL down & select each face one be one) but this is a pain & takes ages (there are over 200 faces)

I can see & edit the blue color in the manager but how do I tell Inventor to replace all - can it be done?

Please edit part 8. Then start the Emboss process. 1/64 = Depth. Flat White colour. Following the video on youtube they use engrave from face then reverse the direction the arrow points towards the model. Then OK. That's the way I am showed  it and I can't get it to engrave.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Emboss Patterns On Compound Surfaces

Sep 24, 2013

I'm stuck on a few different emboss cases. The following examples are just dumbed-down models to learn from.  If it matters - I'm actually embossing patterns on more complicated parts - not text on primitive shapes.

Case 1:  Emboss across several surfaces.  Please see attached file "Wrap Emboss 1".  I can wrap to a face - but not all three faces on the solid that I want my "TEST TEST TEST" message to span across.  My embossed text goes off into space - it doesn't wrap around the edge of the solid as desired.

Case 2: Emboss text (or some other arbitrary shape) onto a single (but compound) surface.  Please see file "Compound Emboss 2".  If the curvature of the part isn't significant - there are a few ways to fake/trick out the model to get a passable result.  BUT - when the curvature of the surface is significant relative to size of the text/pattern to be embossed - I haven't yet found a solution that doesn't wildly distort the embossed feature.  As the surface of the part is compound - I can't use the "Wrap to Face" option without an error.  The resulting embossed feature is unacceptable.
