May 25, 2012My ultimate goal is to have a virtual human model that I can re-size parametrically to reflect real-world measurements. I've used MAX to make architectural models and scenes so I know how to manipulate basic shapes in MAX.
how to make some sort of basic-custom geometric shape and control that shape parametrically, like the built-in "Box", "Sphere" and "Cylinder" objects.

Nov 27, 2013When I drag a previous custom command into an existing custom tool bar and edit the custom command (then rename the command in the Name and Command Name) it also changes the previous custom command that I originally drug into the toolbar. What am I doing wrong?

Jul 11, 2011I need to model solids, just like in SolidWorks. Meaning that I need to be able to create separate parts and create assemblies out of them. Also I'm a university student, so I'm entitled to free use of AutoDesk software.
From what I understand, AutoDesk Inventor Professional does this. There is a download link on the Autodesk Education site for this software.However when I try to install it, it won't let me. Instead the installer says I already have Inventor Fusion, which came with AutoCAD.Inventor Fusion is great, but I can't find a way to make assemblies.
Do I need to uninstall Inventor Fusion to get Inventor Professional to work, or is Inventor Fusion the only Inventor software that I can use with a student license?
Also, is there any other way to model solid parts and assemble them with AutoDesk software, like with AutoCAD?

I have tried using a shape, the special Wingding character but cannot get the result I want. I've tried the hatching method, again with no luck. I've went through the discussion groups, online content, etc. but cannot get it to generate the line the way I want. I see a few people that have been successful but I cannot get it to work.

Mar 5, 2013Is it possible to make a linetype with a circle that is hatched solid? I made a shape file of the hatched circle, created a line type with a distance of 15 feet and when I change a line to the newly created linetype my linetype looks I just created a dot line type.

Mar 19, 2013Any Earthen Causeway or Breakwater modeling using custom Assemblies and Subassemblies. Any tips or tricks before I get going ??
Structure would consist of a Core, an Underlayer, and of course Rip Rap. Also the Rip Rap layer will most likely have a Toe at the Existing Seabed.
The last time we did a Causeway, it was fairly complicated and I did it with Grading Objects. Edits and modifications were a real PITA. Also volumes were a little awkward to get. I figure using a custom built Assembly would be a better way to go.

Mar 29, 2012I use ACA 2012 on two seperate computers and would like to be able to have all my custom tool palettes, blocks, customizations, etc.. to migrate to both computers. I.e. I add a new tool to a tool palette on one computer and then when I'm working on second computer that new tool appears in palette in correct location. I would think the easist way to do this would to be to share the location of the tool palettes, customization files, etc.. at a common place (network share) but am unable to find all the files and settings to do this.

Feb 6, 2012I have created a custom office standards tool palette for the users, and it is properly loaded on all the machines. The issue is that when the 'Tools' button on the ribbon is pressed, it loads to the 'design tools' palette by default. Most user here have the habit of closing the tool menu after use, and reopening it from the menu - which defaults back to the design tools palette instead of the office standards... which is frustrating when jumping back and forth constantly. I assumed there was an easy way to tell them to set the 'standards' as the default, but I can't seem to find this property anywhere.

May 31, 2013I recently got a new drafting job for a chemical plant. The issue that I am having is that they are using AutoCAD 2004. That version came out when I was a freshman in high school and I am lost. I am trying to insert the custom blocks that pertain to our design standards, but I am getting nowhere.
I have the blocks in a separate folder. I am getting to the customize tool palette option, but every time I try and import these files the folders show up empty. Admittedly, I am not the greatest with the complexities of AutoCAD because I picked it up on the job and never had any "official" training; however, it has also been two years since I've had to do this and I am a little rusty... I'd like to think it's just that because they are using decade old software.

Oct 3, 2013I've always layout my floor plans three dimensional with the tools pallets commands such as walls, rails, door, windows & ect. I always have my walls pre-hatched with the solid pattern which is really effective to the floor plan. Normally when I put windows in the wall the window is clearly shown without the hatch in the wall but for some reason my wall's hatch started covering the windows and I can't seem to solve this problem.

Jul 20, 2012I have installed the autocad ObjectARX 2011 and .Net wizzard to start writing a .Net application for adding custom drawing parameters to all our acad drawings. I have found two issues detailed below. This is my first attempt at using c# with autocad so any pointers on what I am doing wrong will be well received.
1. If add the AcDbMgd.dll and AcMgd.dll references and set copy local to false as the documentation advises then I get a FileNotFoundException, could not load file or assembly 'acdbmgd'. If I set the copy local to true then the error goes away.
2. I tried using the code below to add a paramater but I get an exception on the first line System.TypeLoadException: Method 'CopyTo'.

Exporting the "command tool samples" and importing it as "My layers" works, but the name is still command tool samples and breaks the actual command tool samples...

Dec 16, 2010I've made some custom tool palettes that are on the network. I just have them pathed in the options, and set up as a group for users to access. Civil 3D is real sluggish when it comes to using these, and switching between the tabs, and trying to load them up. But Vanilla AutoCAD loads them and switches between tabs no problem. Is there a variable specific to C3D that needs to change to make it work more like it does in Vanilla AutoCAD?

Oct 17, 2008I created a new version of DaylightBench subassembly with a different class library application on .net for c3d 2009.
I added the tool data to C3D Metric Transportation Subassembly Catalog.atc. Tool is listed on Subassembly catalog and i can copy-paste the tool to Tool palette.
But on tool palette when i try to drag it to drawing it gives the error "tool is not registered". error msg is attached.
can it be about the resource fileds on ATC file eg: resource="1302" or the new GUID values?

When I am in the CUI editor and I right click on a button in a custom tool bar, it gives me the option to "duplicate" or "copy".
But when I go to change the properties of the new button, it changes both the original and the new button upon "apply".
Can I just add a new/blank button? I've tried dragging a new command from the list at the lower left corner but it does the same thing. :?

My machine is a 64 bit computer and his is a 32 bit.
Is there a way to convert the xpg to a different extension or will I have to set up his palettes from scratch?
