AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Custom Tool Palettes Loading Slowly
Dec 16, 2010
I've made some custom tool palettes that are on the network. I just have them pathed in the options, and set up as a group for users to access. Civil 3D is real sluggish when it comes to using these, and switching between the tabs, and trying to load them up. But Vanilla AutoCAD loads them and switches between tabs no problem. Is there a variable specific to C3D that needs to change to make it work more like it does in Vanilla AutoCAD?
So I am trying to create a TP that has a few commands on it... the problem is I dont know where to start in order to make everything available to the others on my network...
I have created a new GROUP, dragged a palette into that group, made my commands, and they work on my PC... but how do I get them all so everone can see them. Exporting the "command tool samples" and importing it as "My layers" works, but the name is still command tool samples and breaks the actual command tool samples...
I use ACA 2012 on two seperate computers and would like to be able to have all my custom tool palettes, blocks, customizations, etc.. to migrate to both computers. I.e. I add a new tool to a tool palette on one computer and then when I'm working on second computer that new tool appears in palette in correct location. I would think the easist way to do this would to be to share the location of the tool palettes, customization files, etc.. at a common place (network share) but am unable to find all the files and settings to do this.
I have a custom tool palette all made up, it has three palette sets and 8-12 palettes per set.
Now, is it necessary to add the palette sets and palettes to the content browser before sharing the .atc file around the office? Also, once added to the content browser, I cannot change the properties of a block e.g. scale, layer, rotation prompt etc..
I just migrated from 2006 to 2012... I was able to get my old custom tool palettes into 2012 by opening the Content Browser and idropping them. However I noticed that these palettes are not 'refreshable' like they used to be. In the Palette Properties it says *This palette is not shared from a catalog*... after doing a search of that message in these forums I found this thread: [URL]....
I followed David's instructions:
1. Created a new Palette Group
2. Created a new palette in that Group
3. i-dropped tools from my custom catalog in the Content Browser onto that new palette.
How do I migrate my Custom Tool Palettes and Custom Toolbars from Civil 3D 2012 to Civil 3D 2014?
What files do I need to create or copy to transfer to 2014?
My Custom Tool Palette consists of Block Symbols, Border Sheets, Scales and Seals, Lisp Routines etc.
My Custom Toolbar is just a number of standard cad commands I've put together in my toolbar like Revision Cloud, Layer Isolate, Match Properties, Attach Image, etc.
Do I need to export out my cui file, do I need to create a Profile file, do I need to setup the same directory structure naming and copy my files into those same directory names?
Or is there some easy hidden Magic Button in Civil 3D that you click on and it does the rest?
I am finding that the thumbnails for images to be imported from CF and SD cards (Sandisk Ultra and Extreme both 30MB/s) are taking a long time to appear in the import panel in LR5 - and much slower than they did for LR4.
I also get a lot of blank thumbnails as I scroll up and down the panel - sometimes in the middle of the group and sometimes at the top or bottom. These then eventually appear if I hold still on a block of thumbnails.
The most images I have tried to import at once is 155, (Canon 5D III) and I would guess that any more than this would be very slow indeed.
I don't seem to be able to run a set of my custom programsn that I have been runnning since R2009.
I get the untrusted location dialogue box, the commands have demand loaded into the registry but when I run I get unknown command or nothing happens and no text on the command line.I have tried Rebuilding the code to target R2014 and also turning off the trusted switch all to no avail.
We have company tool palettes set up in catalogs on the server. I was able on "load and existing catalog" on a users machine this morning but when I try to drag and drop the catalog palettes to the tool palette, nothing happens. They don't populate the palette and they do not show up as an available tab under "customize".
With the scenarios set up below, it seems that these files are taking unusually long to open and save (up to 20 minutes on scenario #1, up to 7 minutes on scenario #2). Is this typical for the filetype described?
SCENARIO #1 [Running 32 bit Windows XP on a 2.3GHz ThinkCentre M55p, 2GB RAM, Photoshop CS1. Have files ranging in size from 50MB to 325MB. Application installed on C: drive, primary scratch disk is on partitioned D: drive with 3.96GB free space, secondary scratch disk is on C: drive with 53.98GB free space. Largest file has about 12 layers, including 3 layers with rasterized PDFs and about 9 layers that have blocks of filled color with craquelure & inner shadow added.]
SCENARIO #2 [Running 32 bit Windows XP on a 2.3GHz ThinkPad T61p, 2GB RAM, Photoshop CS1. Have files ranging in size from 50MB to 325MB. Application installed on C: drive, primary scratch disk is on partitioned D: drive with 36.4GB free space, secondary scratch disk is on C: drive with 29.7GB free space. Largest file has about 12 layers, including 3 layers with rasterized PDFs and about 9 layers that have blocks of filled color with craquelure & inner shadow added.
I am trying to setup some palettes to use at work and am using blocks to do so. What I've found is that my palettes work if I have left the blocks in place in the file in which I am creating the palettes. However, if I have deleted the blocks from the file, the blocks in the paletette will not work. Is this normal or is there something deeper?
I created a new version of DaylightBench subassembly with a different class library application on .net for c3d 2009.
I added the tool data to C3D Metric Transportation Subassembly Catalog.atc. Tool is listed on Subassembly catalog and i can copy-paste the tool to Tool palette.
But on tool palette when i try to drag it to drawing it gives the error "tool is not registered". error msg is attached.
can it be about the resource fileds on ATC file eg: resource="1302" or the new GUID values?
I have been looking for a plugin that adds a tool to slowly slim lines as you draw. For example, as you draw a line, the line starts off thick, but as you draw the line it gets thinner.
I have created a custom Assembly using Assembly Composer for C3D 2012 and imported it to C3D. Problem is when I try to place the assembly in a drawing.
I get the error message "Unable to execute the tool. Not enough storage is available to complete this operation."
I am trying to create an assembly that will calculate a built volume based on constructed height of the structure.
I am trying to edit a custom palette externally and have successfully done it in the past but now Draw is "breaking" my new palette.
I created a new palette within Corel Draw and added a single color. This is to create the XML file and generate a unique GUID. I can open and the close this palette with no issues. I can add colors via Draw with no issues. I then close Draw. I then open the file with a text editor (NotePad) and add the code for my new colors (pulled from a spread sheet). My code matches the code in the Draw-generated palette color. It also matches the code from another palette I successfully created over a year ago. The file saves just fine and can be reopened in the text editor. I then reopen Draw but my palette name is no longer in the palette list. Then if I manually try and add the palette by opening it, it opens but strips all colors. Then if I open the XML file with the text editor, the GUID is now all zeros and all colors have been stripped from the file. I have tried rebuilding the workspace and rebooting the PC but neither option seems to work.
PS here is a sample line of code for one of the colors I am trying to add.
I was wondering about custom color swatch formats. Specifically in an ancient version of Photoshop (like 3.5) in addition to the preset swatches, there used to be a blank "scratch pad" type palette feature where you could put colors and smoosh them around just like a real artists palette then pick colors from there....is there anyway to do this in Photoshop 7 without creating a separated doc? Also, you used to be able to create a swatch palette based on the colors in a given image by going to mode>indexed color ....that doesn't seem to be working for me...
In our company we have a Tool Palette guru. She has READ/WRITE privileges to a Tool Palettes Development folder on our network. When she has an update to share with the masses, a network admin goes into the Tool Palettes Development folder and moves the corresponding files and folders to Tool Palettes folder where all CAD users have only READ access. All users point to the Tool Palettes folder on the network as well as a folder on tehor local machine so they can create their own custom Tool Palettes.
We have several users that have to reload their Tool Palettes every time they login to their workstation. Also, whenever a user logins to a different workstation, the Tool Palettes images have to be reloaded manually.I'm thinking there has to be a way so that
1) once the Tool Palettes are loaded for a user they don't have to be reloaded and 2) we don;t have to reload the Tool Palettes images when a user changes workstations.
I have a little problem, here at work we want to work with tool palettes, but when we select a hatch from the tool palette and want to hatch a object it says to specify insertion point.
We at work here we are drawing with polylines so we would like to select the object instead of specifying a insertion point. How can we change it in the toolpalette ?
My pc is being upgraded next week (while I am away on holiday). The IT guy will be adding 4GB of RAM and will be switching from 32bit win 7 pro to 64bit win 7 pro, obviously, this will mean a clean install and re-installing all my software. I have my tool palettes set up with many blocks, leaders, hatch patterns etc and I want to know if there is a way I can save my tool palettes and then reload them onto the upgraded pc with the re-installed AutoCAD LT?
I'm using AutoCAD MEP 2014 (though it's present in all variations).
I am using OOTB settings to eliminate network permissions as my issue.
I open my ACAD to an OOTB template file. Create a new tool palette, call it "CS" for now. When I try to add blocks to my palette, I get the black circle with a line through it. I get the same result when trying to add to existing OOTB palettes.
I am a network administrator and administrator on my machine, permissions shouldn't be the issue.
Checked my Options->Files and everything is pointing to the OOTB locations on my C: drive, nothing special.
The .dwg files are on my desktop, so there's no network sharing issue.
I tried going through Design Center (ADCENTER). I browsed to the folder containing the .dwg files, right-clicked and selected "Create Tool Palette" or something to that effect. It created an empty palette with no tools.
I've also tried inserting a block from another OOTB palette, no issue. Then whe trying to drag that block back to the tool palettes, it doesn't let me.
Toolbars/Panels are not locked, though I don't think that makes a difference.
Hmm...trying to think what else I've tried...I've Googled for a couple hours now, obviously with no luck.
I am having an issue at my office when I open or save a drawing (I'm using Acad 2013) people using 2011 Acad Architecture who later access the file cannot use their tool palette or detail component manager. The tool palette will pop up, but when they try to drag something out of it, there is an unspecified error. The detail component manager in Architecture will not even pop up for some reason.
The best way to share my tool palettes. I have created blocks & saved them on our shared drive, I have set my tool palettes up how I want them, Alphabetical order and set the size for the images to display.
I now want to give this palette to all my colleagues to use as standard for when they open their CAD.
I am trying to load hatch files from StoneCAD. In the past I have been able to take hatch patterns from various sources and locate them in a file within AutoCAD LT, then use them without issue.
I have never touched a .pat file or written anything in notepad or word, just simply copied the .dxf files to a file on my computer and was able to use them through AutoCAD LT 2009. Recently I had to reload the software and I can't figure out where I would go to put these hatch files.
How to create a tag and add it to my tool palettes for future use?
I am using AutoCAD Architecture 2012, and I want to be able to tag the bottom elevation of slabs in my drawings. I found I can create a tag by using the DEFINETAG command and I created text in there that is set to display the bottom elevation of slabs. I'm stuck as to where to go from here. I can't actually "tag" anything with this, and I don't know how to add it to my tool palettes.
I have just updated from 2012 to 2013, I've transferred all the necessary support file as I always do.I am trying to add a new Pallette to my custom Pallette group. However, when I try to drag blocks into the new Palette AutoCAD won't allow me to do so. I have to drag them first into another existing Palette, then drag them into the new one.
Then I have the problem of the New Palette disappearing when I next open Cad. Even after the New Palette .atc file appears in my support folder and I save my Workspace profile.
When I start AutoCad and also if I try to select the Refresh icon on the Pallett, I get a pop up that says "There was an error while refreshing. The palette could not be refreshed" Could there be a path that is broken, if so where would it be?
Just on to ACA 2014 and noticed many of the detail tabs missing. No longer interior, exterior, etc. tabs and can't find how to replace them. Also Detail compnent manager toolbar icon gone and can't find command in CUI?
