Is it possible to add a custom object such as soil reinforcement to C3D? I have a roadway grading plan with cut/fill slopes that will require geosynthetic reinforcement. Is it possible to add reinforcement to the drawing and have C3D calculate quantities?
View 2 RepliesI new to 3ds max and watched a bunch of tutorials, but I'm having trouble trying to do something simple like moving one box on top of another box.
For example, I created a table and now I want to create a lamp and put it on the table. Is there some way I can just move the lamp and have it snap to the surface of the table when it's near?
Any Earthen Causeway or Breakwater modeling using custom Assemblies and Subassemblies. Any tips or tricks before I get going ??
Structure would consist of a Core, an Underlayer, and of course Rip Rap. Also the Rip Rap layer will most likely have a Toe at the Existing Seabed.
The last time we did a Causeway, it was fairly complicated and I did it with Grading Objects. Edits and modifications were a real PITA. Also volumes were a little awkward to get. I figure using a custom built Assembly would be a better way to go.
I am trying to add contour lines to a surface at very specific elevations (rain event elevations). I can add all the intervals I want but can't seem to figure out how to add a contour at a certain elevation.

I am creating custom classes that I need to save to the DWG file. I assume this is straightforward but have not found a way to do it. I'm using VB.NET but can work with C++ examples as well. Do I have to inherit from a DBObject class and override or is it possible to declare my own custom classes and somehow register them to DBObject?

I would like to add a custom title block template that I created to my Inventor open new drawing dialoge box. I know of the regular way to accomplish this by adding the custom title block to the templates folder in the Inventor folder on my C drive but what I would like to do is somehow link the template to my Inventor templates folder while keeping it in it's current location so that others and myself have access to the latest version of it due to the fact that it is a working document and will be updated periodically.

After the parts are released the ballooning is removed from the drawing and the basic revsions take over after that. I am just learning AC and have the tutorial video by Brian Benton for 2012. He does a great job of explaining what layers are and how to manage them once they have been created but he does not touch on how to add objects to a layer after you create it? I watched the layers section 4 times and nothing about this.
I can create a new layer fine and also a new object but unless I am just blind and stupid (which is possible) I do not see any options in the layer manager letting you add an object to a layer? Got--- create new layer, freeze layer, isolate layer, etc, etc, etc but nothing to do the simple and most basic task of adding your newly created object to a layer-----either a newly created one you just made or an existing one?
I am modelling on an object which exists of a sphere with a lot of lightbulbs around it. I made asphere and 1 light surrounded by 6 lightbulbs. My intension is to make a perfect symmitrical sphere of lightbulbs.
I work with Autocad Mechanical 2012 (not for so long) and quit new into the world of CAD. I worked with the command array, and that worked fine, but I don't know how to repeat the cluster of 7 bulbs all over the sphere.
I'm tasked with setting up a new dwt file to be used along with the Sheet Set Manager.
I've got as far as adding in my own custom properties at both the Sheet Set level (things like project name, site name, etc.), and at the Sheet level (drawing title).
But more specifically, at the Sheet Level, I want to be able to facilitate having a multi-line drawing title. Things start to get a little cloudy.
In order to be able to control where the line breaks are, I've simply created 5 fields (3 for an odd number of lines, 2 for even), and I want to set their Default Value so they don't display anything, i.e. a space or blank of some kind, instead of the four dots. So when I want to add the title I go to the Sheet properties and change the value.
I thought it'd be as simple as adding the ASCII code for a space (U+00A0) into the Default Value, but that seems to display the text U+00A0 instead of the space.
I added a new "Standard" and "Fastener Type" to the Clearance.xls file for my Inventor 2013. This was done in an effort to create a standard set of dowel hole sizes in our design department. So far it is working, however I have a few improvements I need implementing.

I have attached the clearance.xls file we modified to get this new fastener type to show up in our hole wizard.
First, I have not grasped the extent yet of how the new appearance library works.. we don't get crazy with colors, reflections etc.. but we do have a handful of colors that we use on the machines we use.. so instead of using the default appearance library, i made a new appearance library. All this went well, but i periodically as i need them will add colors to it.. problem is that i'm obviously doing something wrong, because my colors don't always stay in there after i restart Inventor.. and yesterday, i can't seem to keep any of the colors i setup in there to stay.. all i want to do is copy specific colors from inventors appearance library.. drag them into mine, rename them, maybe tweak the color, and then they be there for next time.. why won't they stay?
The edit pencil will come up on my library.. i've done the release edit after i'm done.. everything works in this inventor session, but if i turn inventor off and back on again.. they are gone.. only thing i have thought of remaining is that 3 users on our network share the same design styles location so we all our using same stuff, so is the file inventor uses in design styles to save to read only or something, but i read that appearances aren't saved in design styles.. How to do this and the colors stay and populate through all the existing stuff.. I have got the colors to lock into my template ipt in the doc appearances.. and i've done the save to custom library thing.. works until i restart inventor..

After this, I can type the CAD command "erase", and the selected entity is erased. However, if I press the DELETE key the entity is not erased (nothing happens). Why is that?
If I select something on screen with my cursor, the DELETE will erase it.
I have recently landed a job at a design company as an instrument design technician. The last time I touched CAD was about 6 years ago so I have been going through some tutorials. Unfortunately the comany I work for use 2000i so it isn't the most up to date version or anywhere near for that matter but nonetheless I have been perservering (I have both 2011 and 2012 on my pc at home).

drawing it has been a breeze now that i have refreshed my memory but I was wondering if I could make it look like the example in the tutorial with the brickwork, water and trees.
I just wanted to add some materials to my objects and it seems some menu entries on Toolpalettes are missing (masonry etc.). I installed the full version of AutoCAD 2012 and also downloaded some additional material libraries. We want to allow users to add their own unique ID to all their drawn objects, and we don't want to use Entity Handle as that is not anything we can choose ;-)
We're using that ID to connect other datasources (ODBC) to Navisworks and we would like it to work even from AutoCAD, even though we have Civil 3D inhouse.

I've been developing a way for our drafters to properly use a layer scheme. I implemented this by using a background database defined in Excel and loading this on startup. The interface is provided by custom ribbon elements as described in Fenton Webb's "UI Design featuring WPF" (autodesk university, 2009).
The ribbon contains the following custom elements:
- two series of radioboxes which are stripped of the default WPF multithreading
- a dropdown which monitors and manipulates LTSCALE
- a dropdown which selects values from the background database.
- a UserControl which displays information from the background database about the current layer
All this has worked fine on multiple (about eight) computers with AutoCAD 2010 and 2012, vanilla and Map 3D. Now for two users, the workspace randomly freezes up. The freeze is just visually, commands are still executed and it is still possible to switch to a workspace without my ribbon in it, but my ribbon just stays on the foreground. This freeze happens when the user interacts with any part of the ribbon: switching tab, clicking buttons, etcetera.
The only way to resolve this problem so far is as following:
- Switch to another workspace without my custom ribbon tab
- Restart AutoCAD
- Switch back to the original workspace, everything works now
Directly restarting AutoCAD just results in another frozen interface.
I'm a beginner in Maya and have to model an object for college. I've modelled an iPhone 4 in Maya 2012 and I've added colour to it but i want to add an image to the screen face. I've added the image using lambert but the image is blown up and i don't know how to resize it. I've fiddled with the settings in '2d Texture Placement Attributes' but the only thing i've been able to do was rotate the image so it's not upside down, it's still blown up. Is there another editor window to resize it?
I've also tried using the UV Texture Editor but everything is a mess on top of eachother and everytime i move things around maya crashes . Is there any other way to add the image to the face?
I know there is the insert edge tools, but I am looking to quickly add a variable number of edge loop either evenly spaced or sporadically space in one operation.
I'm coming from Lightwave3D so excuse me if I try to relate tools to it here.
