I have imported a dxf file from our Trimble handheld unit. The dxf has layers built into it that come straight from the trimble software. (ei, FENCE, TANK, WELL HEAD, FIELDLINE) I have custom built layers and linetypes for my .dwt file in Cad so I dont need the layers that followed the dxf file.
For some reason I am unable to delete those layers, I get a warning box saying:
The following layers cannot be deleted:
. layers 0 and Defpoints
. The current Layer.
. Layers containing objects.
. Xref-dependant layers
I am not on the current layer, I am pretty positive there is no objects on the layers I want to delete ( i have deleted my gps points and blocks that were imported)
In creating our drawing template, I collected alot of unwanted styles and want to delete/clean this up. I only want to keep what's highlighted..By the way, I found style editor and template creation quite tedious & convoluted.

How to select or delete the unwanted switches in my layout drawing ? I can select it ... may i know what layer is that and it doesn't appear in my model drawing...
I installed LR4 Beta, and imported some photos from my LR3 installation. Probably not the wisest approach I now realise.
Now that I have purchased LR4 (upgrade), and installed it including RC4.1 I realise that I have a catalogue that only contains the images I imported with the Beta version. I still have the original images, and sidecar files in my LR3 catalogue. What I want to do is remove the LR4 catalogue that I currenly have, and then export my catalogue from LR3 and import into LR4. I think I am OK with the Export / Import bit (I have Martin Evening's excellent book). What I don't know how to do is remove the catalogue, or contents thereof from LR4. I could of course just remove all the images from the catalogue by deleting them but I want to be careful here, as I got into this situation by doing things the wrong way in the first place.
I've got CS5 and I'm still learning the ropes. I've advanced to creating my own ICC print profiles, which I'm using. CS5 has a long list of these in the print dialogue. I have occasionally updated the profiles that I have created ( which now appear in this list). I want to keep the list up to date with regards my own profiles and delete the ones that have been superceeded. I've looked through my folders (Windows 7) but I can't find where they are stored.
how I delete unwanted profiles in the list? Can it be done whilst in CS5?
I recently started an internship with a company who makes radiators for power transformers. The first task they have given me is to clean up their plant layout file. The file currently has 125 layers in it due to machine blocks dragging in unwanted layers whenever they bought new machines. (presses, rolling machines, powdercoating, welding, ect...) I have been having trouble getting rid of and simplifying their floor plan. I tried creating blocks for each group of machines and changing the layer of the block to the desired layer. This seems to change the block to the right layer, but it still references to the other layers it was previously in. I want to keep the separate colors that show different parts of the machines, but I still need to eliminate the unwanted layers. Is there any way to consolidate the layers while keeping the different colors within the blocks I tried to create?. They have me working on Autocad 2006.
What is the process used to delete unwanted catalogs from the listing that comes up when loading LR 4? Any web article on the general subject of deleting unwanted catalogs?
There are some layers in my drawing that won't delete in the layers properties manager. I don't know why. It gives me 4 possible reasons:
- It might be layer 0 or a Defpoint (whatever that is). - It is the current layer - It is an Xref dependent layer - It is a layer containing objects
But none of these, to my knowledge, apply. There could be things on the layer that I'm just not seeing, but I've looked thoroughly. I even zoomed out to the extents, highlighted the whole area, and clicked the erase tool, but it still won't go away. I got the file from another computer, so it might be an Xref dependent layer and the Xref'ed files just didn't come with it. How would I be able to tell - and how could I remove the Xref dependency?
Other than that, is there any other reason a layer won't delete? Can I force it to delete?
How do I delete a layer? I am unable to even though the layer is not current, is not layer "0" or "Defpoints",is not a Xref dependent layer, nor does the layer contain any objects.
I have ACAD LT 2002 and when I go into layer control and try to delete layers that I no longer need, it wont let me.So I turn all of these layers on (and all others off) and delete everything visable, purge all complete and they still are there.
How do I get rid of unwanted layers that acad wont let me delete?
I am using layer translate to convert from one set of standards to another. I have created a translation file with all the desired settings and everything works fine, except the old layers remain in the drawing after translating. Is there a way to delete all of the old (unused) layers after translation?
When i import a dwf it auto generates a layer for each piece of geometry in the file. There is no way to merge the layers during import that i know of.
So i just select every object and place them into the default layer0... takes 20 seconds.
Now i want to cleanup all the unused empty layers so i can make new layers later on. When i select the first layer... then SHIFT click the last layer 3dsmax lags then freezes.
When i do this same thing in 2010 the layers select properly... but once i hit delete 3dsmax freezes again! Now i know 3dsmax.. even if it freezes as long as its using any form of cpu its just processing. So i waited OVER-NIGHT just to delete a bunch of layers, and it worked! Deleting the layers one by one take 30seconds each... not going threw a thousand layers like that!
My questions: Why does deleting or even selecting a bunch of layers take a very very long time? Or even deleting one layer take a long time when theres alot of layers? Anyway to make this faster?
I created some render layers by copying the master layer and some of them seem to be connected to the master layer in some way and I cannot delete them!
When I select the render layer they are grey and the master layer is also selected and is blue. I cannot delete the copied layer even if I empty it.
I have created other layers the exact same way but when I select them they are not attached to the master layer and are blue when I select them and I can delete them.
What do I have to do to delete the layers that seem to be connected to the master layer? This is really annoying! I try to do one thing and end up spending the entire day trying to delete rogue render layers! The only work around I found is to select everything in the scene and export it and then import it into a new scene.
I can't find a way in Gimp 2.4 to delete all invisible layers, is there one?
When working with a slightly complex file I use to have multiple layers which I show, hide and duplicate as needed. After a while my layers dialog gets cluttered and I need to delete layers I don't need anymore, most of these layers are invisible and going one by one to delete takes much time, an option to remove all invisible layers would be great.
There's an option to delete invisible layers on "Image > Merge Visible Layers" but this, as the name says, merges all other layers.
To reduce file size when working with 100+ layers, can I delete multiple invisible layers before saving?
If not, is there a plug-in for this procedure? For a multi-page tutorial with over 100 layers, pdn is slow when opening or saving the file. I would like to save each page of the tutorial as a separate .pdn file for faster loading/editing/saving. Unfortunately, to save each individual page, I must delete many layers one-at-a-time which is very time consuming.
I need to delete all invisible layers before saving, to save each page separately and keep the original multi-page intact for backup until all individual pages are saved.
I'm going to connect my AI file to After effect. So I had to create lots of layers in order to edit them seperatly in After effects. But it seems like my amount of layers are too large because AE always crashes (not responding -> Force quit)
So I wanna break some stuff down in multiple AI files, but I don't wanna go and select every layer and delete it. That would take too much time. Is there a way to select the multiple objects in Illustrator and delete that but also its layer its in?
On pasting items from one dwg. to another and the ucs being the same orientation in both dwgs. the ucs in the receiving dwg. wonders around to various orientations when trying to pick the target pasting point. Objects are 3D, working in that environment. Had no trouble pasting one object into the dwg. as per normal but trying to repeat the process at a different location in the same dwg. the grief started. Ending up climbing walls!! Have been working this procedure for a couple of months and only now this problem has arisen.
Let's say I have downloaded 500 shots to PSE 12. I would like to go through them quickly and eliminate the ones I definitely do not want. How can I quickly tag them or whatever and then with one touch on the delete button delete them all at once?
When i try to delete a file from LR using the delete from disk option the file does not so up in my trash. I have deleted 200 bad files and the never showed up in the trash. I have been trying to clear up some disk space but the available disk still shows the same so I know they haven't been deleted. Am using Lion on a MacBook Pro 15 and am fully updated. Am I doing something wrong?
Until yesterday I was able to delete pictures, using the contextual menu or the delete key. I got the message asking me if I wanted to delete them from disk or from the catalog.
But now, that popup message doesn't appear. The picture is not removed, just nothing happens.
I checked the logs and this is the error message:
performCommandDesc could not perform command ag.library.expandAllStacks (Command was disabled.).
I uninstalled LR moving it to the trash. Then I deleted the com.adobe.Lightroom4.plist and I also removed the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Lightroom.
I rebbooted the machine and installed it again. But the issue is still there, with the same error message.
I verified the disk and checked file permissions.
I also tried to use another catalog from a backup.
Nothing, same error.
One anusual thing that I did before the error was to install the "HDRsoft Merge to 32-bit HDR Plug-in for Lightroom - Version 1.0"
I removed it but the error was still there. After the re-install I didnd't install that plug-in again so if it was the problem, it shouldn't be after the clean installation that I did again.

Im now using Autocad 2013 and when I click in the open area of the drawing the xclip windows from the many xclipped block in the darwing all highlight at once. See example attached It is very distracting. Is there a way to turn that feature off?
In AutoArchitect 2012 I am getting unwanted zooms in my viewports, for instance if I'm pasting in a portion of another drawing, disturbing the drawing scale. I don't like working with all the viewports locked, but I really don't want AutoCAD zooming for me. How do I turn off this new feature?
