I have some faces and i want project them to xy plane (Top view). I want to get exterior boundary line of this model. To do this, i will ignore all dashed lines, but i cannot check a line is dashed line or not.
View 5 RepliesI am trying to constrain a point on a sketch to the intersection of an axis with my sketch plane... and I'm having some trouble. I can't select the axis when I select the "Project Cut Edges" and the "Project Geometry" is of no use because the axis is not normal to my sketch plane.
I'm trying to cut holes normal to my sketch plane on a curved surface using points projected from an overhead sketch.
i got Inventor recently, and i've been working on a model of a longboard just to teach myself how to use the tools in Inventor. right now i'm trying to color areas for the griptape pattern so i drew the 2D pattern and projected it onto the 3D model of the longboard. but when i tried to split the faces of the model along the projected pattern only a few of the projected lines split the faces. for other faces i kept getting these errors:
Create parting line failed Crane.ipt: Errors occurred during update Split11: Could not build this Split The attempted operation did not produce a meaningful result. Try with different inputs.
Is it possible to automatically project the x-axis, z-axis or z-axis onto the sketch plane?
I.e. every time you open a new sketch the corresponding lateral and vertical axis will be projected onto the sketch.

My question is how do I change the project no so that it re paths everything and reorganizes itself numerically in Windows Explorer...or should I just create a new project in Navigator and copy the files I need into the new project?
I do not have vault installed and I am trying to add sub files to my project. As of now my project has to find many of my files and I do not want to copy and past them into my project folder as this will mess with my parts numbering system. I want only one part / assembly file per part. I assume that you can do this with the project dialog box or some other system tool I just can not seem to figure it out.

Opening the overall project and running it on screen is not a problem. However, when I try to create a smart package of the composite project, I get a consistent error message rejecting the process because of the existence of the component vsp's.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to compare two faces to see if they are the same face. I have three faces and a hole feature on one of the three faces. I am trying to determine what face the hole is on(top, right, left). I can get the face the hole feature was created on as:

Can I compare faces or do I need to use vectors? I tried comparing the InternalName of the faces but this seems to fail when there is more than 1 hole center within a hole feature.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with getting an Inventor model into Revit. It's not the import of the model that's the problem, but the way the model displays in Revit. (It displays fine in AutoCAD, 3ds max etc - just not Revit.)
Here's the part file - it's just a simple box with a couple of split-face features on it to generate a pattern.
If I take the model into Revit, I can only see the pattern if I select the object.
Deselect the object and the pattern vanishes. Here's an unselected/selected screenshot from Revit:

I am trying to put a deck layout decal onto a surface. When selecting the decal command, inventor will only allow me to select the bottom surface and not the top one where I want the decal. is this achievable.
I can do it by flipping the normal and putting on a mirrored image for my decal but that seems like a lot of work
if you create a new part with a cube, sketch onto one of the surfaces and add an image, the decal will only attach to one of the availiable 2 surfaces
I'm trying to work with some geometry imported from another software. Somewhere there's a problem with drawing precision and imported geometry gets slightly warped. For example in the attached file four points of bottom face should be in the same plane, but they're out by 0.0006mm (in this case). Similar imprecision is evident on all sides (this should be a kind of a flat panel-type object with grooves cut on sides). Is there a way to get autocad to merge faces on a solid or somehow clean it up?

The only way (it seems) is to use the Trim command for every face you need to trim, whereas I want to choose the cutting tool (a plane or face) and then choose a whole lot of faces (by holding CTRL and clicking the faces) and trim them all in one go. Is this possible? I can do this in Fusion, but Fusion is way too slow on my PC compared to Inventor.
I also tried extruding a sketch through the surfaces to cut them, but it doesn't work (Inventor complains that there aren't any solids to cut).
I am looking for a better way to get my 3D Faces from a surface into a DXF. Note: I need to have 3D Faces in a DXF as it is the only way my data collector will accept them. My current process is 1)export surface to a XML 2) open new drawing and import XML 3)make the surface style only display triangles 4)extract triangles from surface 5)change my surface style to no display 6)save drawing as a DXF. I don't like to extract the triangles from the original drawing because I am often making adjustments to the surface and then the old extracted triangles and still hanging around in the drawing. I don't want that. Looking to see if it would be possible to record a macro(or some other automated procedure) that would allow me to extract triangles as save them in a new DXF from a selected surface all in one step.

I have box. After assign material it's still box. But after assign different material to some faces, box become 3d body and I can't simple look and change it's size in properties.
How to assign different materials to different faces and box still remain box.
If it is impossible, could I look gizmo size? I need to control sizes of all objects with easy way without annotate.
I have seen selection filter and apply selction of faces and edges.
I want to leverage this further. In a part, is it possible to simply drag a window and have inventor select all faces?

View 6 Replies View RelatedWe have just finished modelling hundreds of pits/manholes in 3d, to import into 12d as required by our current project.
After importing into 12d we have realised that all the faces are back to front as the dark edges are facing outwards, and the light edges are facing inwards on the pits.
Is there a way to globally flip, or perhaps a lisp routine to flip all the faces?
I have a model of a boat from some database. It's build from 3D faces but I would like to make it a 3D solid with a thickness of 3mm.
I can convert the faces into a surface, but i can't seem to get any of the two models into a 3D solid. I have tried thicken, convtosolid and a lot of other options without luck.
I was wondering if I could make two surfaces, one smaller than the other, place them ontop of eachother and create solid between them?

i downloaded a DWG from the subzero refrigerator website and i saved as a dxf and tried importing into cabinetvision and it says there is 21000 faces and takes a while to load and slow my computer down, is there anyway to reduce the number of faces?
