A few of my design drawings are taking a long time to open from cold. They are not particularly complex drawings and all the files / assembly etc. that are referenced on them are correctly stored and are not corrupt or 'sick'. Why are these drawings taking so long to open? waiting for them is slowing me down considerably.

Dim LowerYPt As WorkPoint = Nothing
Try
LowerYPt = AssyCompDef.WorkPoints.AddFixed(TG.CreatePoint(thisX, thisY, thisZ))
Catch ex As Exception
MsgBox(ex.ToString)
End Try
At least one of the X, Y and Z values are different for the two passes. On the first pass, it runs fine. On the second pass, I get a runtime error:
“System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80004005): Unspecified error (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80004005 (E_FAIL)) at System.RuntimeType……….”

I was wondering if anyone knew what is wrong with my smudge tool. When I go to use it and apply it to my image, it takes a while to show the affect. Everything else in my photoshop works fine. Oh yeah, I use PS CS if that makes any difference.

I am working with Inventor 2013 Professional. For some reason, after a crash last night, Inventor takes anywhere from five to twenty seconds to perform simple tasks. Things like Constraints, geometry projection, and saving are taking way too long. This is all of a sudden.
This is a simple project consisting of 10 simple parts.
I have a vaulted project with about 1000 parts in it and a subfolder within that that has about 250 parts in it.I am told that vault does not manage references outside the project scope as defined by the IPJ which in theis case is at that 1000 part folder level.
If I go to rename the folder with 250 parts in it, it takes up to a half hour. I am having trouble believing that vault can't do better than a half hour to manage the references of a subfolder of a project with 1000 parts in it, when only 250 parts are affected.
Also, I notice a secondary ipj file is created temporarily during the renaming. That ipj appears under an inventor folder under my docs. Can't see why it takes two ipj files to manage one project. Also don't understand why there should be a local ipj file active when I am renaming at the vault level. I am suspicious that this other ipj (named after my company name, indicating a purposeful act) is expanding the scope of reference management since its parent resides at the root Vault explorer ($) separate of the projecy ipj. Also takes way too long to rename individual files.
I've been trying to model cut produced by a ball end mill taking an arbitrary 3D path. I know how to do this for 2D paths (and this has been discussed a couple of times on this forum), but I have had little to no success extending this to paths in 3D. I've attached an Inventor file that demonstrates what I want to do, it has an sketch that describes the tip of the end mill and the path that I want the center of the tip to trace out.
This seems like something that should be possible using sweep feature, but if it is then I have not found a way to get this to work. The issue is that I have not been able to effectively control the angle of the sweep plane with respect to the path. In reality, the normal of the plane should be equal to the tangent of the path with the z-component zeroed out.
However, if I sweep using the path and the "Path orientation" then it does not zero out the z-component, if I sweep using the path and the "Parallel orientation" it does not take the x&y tangent components, if I sweep using a guide rail or guide surfaces it also does not zero out the z-component.
In fact, the only way I could come up with to accomplish this would be to sweep the path in 2D and then to use a series of bend part features in order to put things into 3D. So far as I can tell this works, but back calculating the 2D curve is so backwards and laborious that I can't imagine using this for anything. In Solidworks this is relatively easy using the sweep solid feature .
trying to create contours from an exiting survey file. I am new to Civil 3d 2012. What I need to accomplish is create a 3d topo from the points with contours and then create a 3d model of the area.

So I have to close it all down and hope when I reload AA it works. 9 out of 10 times it does. But this is a pain to do when ever you need to add detail stuff. Oh also this happens on more then one computer in the office. running 2012 with sp and all updates on windows 7
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a simplistic model (4 parts, 10 or so screws) that I am trying to render an animation through using Studio with the lowest possible output settings, my concern is that the render time is extraordinary long even for the most basic of assembly, why is this ? I have also tried the animate when in an IPN file which does improve render time but the quality is not very good.
I will now try using keyframe animation in Showcase to see if I can get an animation with good quality completed within the hour !
I added two macros to be run from a button in the ribbon. The first time I run one of these macros after startup of Inventor, it takes a lot of time to run (approx. 5 sec.). But the second and subsequent time the tools are ran, the process is pretty much instantaneous. It's like the VBAeditor has to load on the background before the tool can process.
I arrived a this hypothesis because the VBA editor is taking around 5-10 seconds to load for the first time but after the tool (macro) has ran once, the VBA editor can be opened instantaneously.
I know there were previous discussions (2007) regarding time stamping in Inventor files. We are now in Inventor 2013 and I have been tasked with billing time for projects. Has there been any changes to Autodesk Inventor's inability to track time spent in files or is the answer still no?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn the drawing title block I would like to place a text reading the print, date and time. This should reflect the current system date and time. I would have this done on the template file so that all new drawings will have this feature builtin.
Is there a property that i can have the text to link to?
Is there any third party program for this?

I note that from time to time I can't see the counter and this is quite an annoyance. When the invisible pointer hover over or passes over an object, the latter will highlight as usual. I have to close and restart the drawing each time due to this issue. Is there an explanation for it, even a solution to prevent this from happening?
NOTE : This is limited to the drawing area only. I can see the pointer in the menu/toolbar area and outside autocad but not in the drawing area.
Go to I - button in Inventor, then to the recent files list, hover the mouse over any file in the list.
You will see a preview of the file & later In about a 1 second delay (keep the mouse still) the preview expands a date/time info.
Where switch/checkbox is to turn off/on this date/time info?

View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there a way how I can unselect element one at the time?
Example if I do fillets and I select wrong edge and I want to unselect only that because I have selected example twenty edges already and dont wont to throw away all work what I have already done.
I'd like to constrain about 100 parts at the same time to the same plane. They are the same part, copied over and over.
Is there any way to do this quickly? A component pattern is not an option in this situation as the spacing is very irregular.
?How can I extract from any model the amount of time it took to create it?. I remember way back that generic Autodesk had in its properties the amount of edit time per file. Does Inventor have any such file or is it located in some hidden area?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI made a change to my Architect 2008 ADT.CUI file to change the mouse button configuration, but the changes aren't taking effect. The old configuration is still working. I found that I have two ADT.CUI files. The one in ...userdatacacheSupport has a 2007 date and the one in the ...enuSupport folder has today's date. Apparently the CUI editor lets me edit one but the other is getting loaded. How do I get the newer version to be the one that gets loaded?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI would like to find a way to edit multiple text boxes in inventor instead of one at a time.
For example, in autocad, when multiple text boxes are selected, any values that are different in the properties window are represented as "varies".
Is there a way to select multiple text boxes and do things such as change the text height, justification, font, etc, just as it works in autocad?
I'm creating a template part to line the inside of a wall with wall boards. All the boards are drawn as an array of seperate solid bodies which are to be made into components once the windows and appertures have been extruded out.
The problem is when the wall changes to a shorter length and then back again. the solids are re-created and the extrusion e.g. Window1 does not have the new solids in it's effected solids list, so I get an error.
Is there a way to set the extrusions "effected solids" (Not sure if that's the correct term) to all the solids all the time through iLogic or the API?
Does Inventor 2013 have any means of tracking editing time?
