I have always used step files to save back to previous releases but i cant seem to get them to open in 2012, I get the attached message
I cant see any version options when saving the sat or stp file, also dwg export, import doesnt work either
I can see other people are still able to do this, is there a setting somewhere?
Since we upgraded to Inventor 2012 SP1 on W7 x64 most machines cannot open or save out step or iges files. The translator shows as 'On demand' and when i save copy as the 'options' button is inactive. We just get the standard error 'Problems encountered while saving the document'.
I see lots of old posts but nothing relating specifically to stp files.

The simple question is… how can we insert a step (stp) part into an existing part file?
The story behind the question is this:
Normally when we get a step file assembly from a customer, if the part has changed, we put our part into Old Versions and save their new step file as our ipt number and replace it in our assembly file. With Vault, in order for us to maintain the history of the part files, we need to keep the original file so we can’t just delete it or replace it, so now we need to figure out how to get a step file into an ipt. The Import command on the Manage tab (with 2013 at least?) does not allow import of stp files just yet.
The only other option I can think of is to put the original part into an assembly with the step file, create a copy of the step information in the part file and use it to recreate the new (step based) part.

I have both Inventor 2012 and 2013 installed on my system. I have gone in to the properties and changed the .dll reference file to read out of the bin/PublicAssemblies folder in 2013, however, when I run my Windows Form, it will open Inventor 2012 instead.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to export step files from Inventor 2012 into Surfcam. Any files that were created in Inventor translate over as solids. Files that I have imported from step files, recognized features, modified and exported again come into Surfcam as Nurb surfaces. I also tried using Inventor 2013 with the same results.
I've never experienced this problem with earlier versions of Inventor.
I got this part from a customer and when i try to say cut off one end of it (because it is a casting and i need to put a few machined features on it) it will not let me? I am using the datum planes to sketch on so it shows you the part sideways or longways. i tried both different planes. it seems if you try doing it looking into the part it lets you but not from these planes.

I have been trying to sequentially show (and then hide) the dimensions for each feature (together with its related sketch dimensions) in a part browser tree.
I can set the visibility for any one of the sketches with e.g.
oSketches.Item(1).Visible = True
oSketches.Item(1).DimensionsVisible = True 'Show sketch dimension
and show the visibilty of the feature dims with e.g.
Set oFeature = odef.Features.Item(1)
oFeature.FeatureDimensions.Show 'Show feature dimension
but I cannot work out how to test which feature a particular sketch is dependent upon. Until I do this the visibiliy
of the feature and sketch dimensions cannot be synchronised.
I expected something like
If odef.Features.Item(1) = oSketch.Parent might work or maybe the Isownedby function but so far I have had no luck with anything I have tried.
When we send 3D models to customers, we always derive the assembly to make it 1 solid part, so the customer cannot disassemble it to copy our product, and then save it as a step file.
I want to Derive an assembly to a part and then save it as a *.step file with an ilogic rule.
I worked out the last part, but i cannot find the Derive assembly code anywhere.
Im not an experienced programmer, i can only Copy paste, so if the solution is already posted in a simular rule, i will not be able to pick what i need from the code
As soon as I open a piece or try to make a new piece, it crashes! I can open the program but can't use it! I installed it and activated it and I can't use the program at all. I have sent many error reports beacuse I have opened it many times and had it crash many times and have always given my email address. Attached is the Error Report Details screen shot.

I am trying to export a dwg to STEP in inventor 2013.
The exprort to STEP tab is greyed out and can't be clicked on.
I have recently upgraded to 2013 FDS and now when I try to import Acad files (sometimes up to 2000 solids) it takes virtually a full day to import one file. When I had 2011 I could import these files much faster.

Just got the upgrade from 2012 to 2013 AutoCAD. When I opened the file from 2012 to 2013 for editing, my sub-xref file become "Unreferenced". The main Xref is loaded and fine. I tried to reload it but it doesn't work, and only its text path that are shown in there. It seems that the sub-xref file is in the right path when I trying to verify it location. So, what I did was use my old 2010 Autocad to finish my task which work fine. Why my sub-xref is in "unreference"condition using 2013 AutoCAD.?

and then i use Patternt tool, it creates a part (Component Pattern/ Element:1/ Frame0001/ ISO L40x40x4 00000001:1) in browser. it is ok.but when i used Insert Frame to crate new frame, the second frame part places in Component Pattern/ Element:1/ Frame0001/ ISO 80x40x6 00000002:1
and same pattern setting is applied on new frame part too, but i do not want apply pattern (or not same pattern) on new frame. and all frames (patterned frames too) hold together by Component Pattern part. how can i place new frame separated with first frame.
i do not know what i did, but i have lost my parts list (left side).
how can i get it back on screen?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have a custom-made sheet metal punch consisting of a 5x5 matrix of 1/8" holes. We export flat patterns from Inventor as DXFs.
We normally make DXFs by creating a view of the flat pattern on a blank IDW template (no border, no title block, nothing) and export that view as a DXF. This lets us orient the view at will, unlike right-clicking on the flat pattern in the browser and selecting Save Copy As.
When the sheet metal guy assigns tooling in his software, he needs to get each punch to "lock onto" the corresponding feature in the DXF. Normally this isn't a problem, but it has been with this gang punch. The center hole of the punch needs to lock onto the correct hole in the DXF, and it can't always seem to do it. I've sat alongside the guy as he does this, and in his software the centers of the circles show up as dots/points. But on this punch, there isn't necessarily a dot in the center of every circle, and it's possible that the center hole, which really needs the dot, won't have one.
I've come up with a workaround for this: a work point in the IPT. In the attached part, it's feature Tooling1. The sheet metal guy confirms that if I include the work point in the DXF as a point (in the AutoCAD sense), he can lock onto it. However, I find that if I generate a DXF from the flat-pattern IDW, the point is lost. If I generate an ACAD DWG from the IDW and save the DWG as a DXF, the point comes through in the DXF. But that's an extra step.
Is there a way to export directly from IDW to DXF and not lose the work point? Or is this as good as it gets?
For the sake of simplicity, the attached part has no bends. I realize that if I did, I'd have to re-create the points in the flat pattern, but that's another discussion.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am a middle school teacher with a lab of 25 Dell Precision T1600 desktops. I just installed Inventor on all the computers and it works beautifully on 24 of them. On one of them, when you choose the "start" menu, nothing happens. If you click a second time, the area where the menu should be is black and the program stops working. The computers are running Windows 7 and with it working on 24 not sure why it wouldn't work on the 25th.
I have reinstalled 3 times, but nothing seems to work.
This is issue in Autodesk Inventor Professional 2012. After installing Feature Recognition x64 bit 2012, its installing successfully. But its not showing in Add-in manager and is not working. S
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to make a script file to open a drawing and run a lisp routine. They both work independently just fine, the script file will open the all of the files fine... and the lisp is in the startup suite and works in all the files. But when I tell the script file to open the first drawing then run the lisp it hangs trying to open the next file after running the lisp. I have Filedia set to 0, but the message I get when it goes to open the next is "No canvas exists. click New Canvas." (And on top of that... Filedia even set back to 1 still does not display the Dialog box anymore, I have to shut down AutoCAD 2012 and start again then it works.) I Have tried several ways, Opening one at a time then run lisp, and open all files first and then try to run lisp (that closes the file after running) and try and run it again in the next... It will only run the lisp one time and then locks up from there.
View 7 Replies View RelatedHaving problems with parts lists not showing the correct part numbers of the parts included in the assembly. In some cases I've made a new part by renaming an existing part but when I create a parts list it shows the part no of the original existing part used to create the new part, even though the new part is the one in the assembly. Also I have just had a number of similar assemblies and needed to produce parts lists for them. I created the first one and then used 'save as' to rename the drawing including the parts list. Then when I re-opened the newly renamed drawing I assigned it to it's new assembly. However the parts list did not update to show the new part numbers included in it's new assembly.
Is all this a glitch in the system or is there something in the set-up which is causing this problem?
Have the "ignore version" flag on, but I get this weird message:

for ever mesh I've deleted history on.
Everytime I want to open idw file only in one folder, it comes with dwg and idwfiles. I have to identify the idw files from many dwg files, sometime I just opened dwg file due to the same name with the idw file. (For project purpose, I need to save idw and dwg file in the same folder).
I hope I can open idw files only as I choose to open iam and ipt only, and remove *.dwg from File of types (*.dwg; *.idw).
When I create a new sketch on any given view and utilize the 'Project Geometry' command, not all geometry will project onto the sketch. It seems random; I've tried multiple times using different orders in which to choose the geometry. Sometimes certain geometry will project, sometimes not.
