AutoCAD Inventor :: Calculation On Length Of Folding Feature

Nov 19, 2011

I would like to know what calculation on the length of a folding feature is performed by Inventor when one folds it. Read my example to better understand my question.

I am trying to fold a part of my sheet 90 degrees, I am going to call the folding part sheet B and the rest of the sheet, sheet A. Now, understand that when I fold sheet B 90 degrees, its face will no longer be parallel to sheet A, but the face of its thickness will. Consider this, now: when I fold the sheet B, there will be an inner part of the folding (which will have the faces of both sheet sections 90 degrees from each other) and the outer part (which will have an angle of 270 degrees between them).

I want the distance between the thickness face and the outer face of sheet A to be X in length. Which is the intial length of sheet B for this to happen? Consider using the BendRadius, Thickness, and other Inventor Sheet Metal parameters that will participate in the equation.

The question surged because I wanted such distance to be 5 in a part with a Thickness setting of 0.5 (as well as BendRadius), but because of this folding length calculation, I had to make sheet B 5.631 in length.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Sheet Metal Folding Distance

Apr 18, 2012

We have many old sheet metal parts that are designed in Autocad environment and of course they are in 2D .dwg format. Sometimes it's necessary to get those parts in Inventor and "convert" them to 3D, but sometimes Inventor's "Fold" function isn't working like it suppose to work.

So all I'm trying to do is that first I'll import the flat pattern .dwg file to sketch,

then define the thickness of a part and lastly trying to bend the part with "Fold" function. Sounds easy, but it isn't always.

Especially sometimes Inventor wants to fold whole flange although there is a relief cut drawn. There is a one example in attachment when it happens. So is it possible to define the folding distance like in "Flange" function?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Basic Folding / Bending Of A Sheet Metal

Apr 19, 2013

I've created a sheet metal part and have set my parameters.  In using the fold feature, cannot create bend past 180 degrees.  Radius is large enough (21") and sheet is long enough as there is still flat sheet after a 180 degree bend. How do you create bends past 180 degrees?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Basic Folding / Bending Of Sheet Metal?

Jan 24, 2013

I want to bend/fold this piece over a specific profile. There are too many tools for bending a sheet metal and I just don´t know where to start. I searched the web and this forum but there are too many options. Also when I create the flat pattern, it should be precise with a difference max +/-5mm. I thought I could use contour flange. Usualy it works. But only when it´s a simple rectangle. But not on this part.

I work with Inventor 2011.

AutoDesk Smoke :: Feature Length RED Workflow

Jan 25, 2013

I am investigating best practice workflows for a feature length project shot on 2 Red Epic cameras and editing was done in Final Cut. I need to grade and finish the movie along with many other finishing requests like screen replacements, set clean up involving tracking and many other common DI requests and fixes. I use Resolve for most Grading but since there are so many FX shots that need work I was contemplating keeping everything in Smoke so I can make adjustments to the grade and FX in context of the whole edit.

Is this advisable for a 90 + min edit with Red footage? It might be doable but is it feasible meaning would performance be very sluggish? I have a 2009 Mac Pro, 24 GB RAM, 8TB RAID, RedRocket and Quadro 4000 card.

Would I be best off having the editor break the movie up into 10 - 12 minute sequences and then import each XML as its own sequence into one Smoke project?

If I import the Red footage at half res, because of performance, I am only using half of the info in the file. I have a RedRocket so should I import full res 4K to get maximum quality? Then let Smoke do a resize to 2K which is the final deliverable format? I figured that might be best for doing resizes and for sharpness.

If I work with proxies would all of my tracking and paint work be valid when I switch back to the 4K version for final render?

VideoStudio :: Burning DVD - One MPEG2 Feature Length Movie

Jan 13, 2013

I'm creating a DVD with just one MPEG2 feature length movie. I've selected the movie and done all the technical burn settings.

What I want is for the DVD to begin with a screen that has the options to 'Play Movie' which plays the whole thing or 'Chapters' which then goes to a chapters menu. Obviously they have to be able to get back to the option to play the whole movie.

I've separated the movie into the chapters by doing Add/Edit Chapter and clicked Next.

Am I right that Add Title Menu creates the first screen, and the Add Chapters Menu then creates the Chapters Menu? How do you have the Play Movie option - or is that just achieved by playing the first chapter (ie does it carry on with the whole movie?) With each chapter, does it proceed to play the whole of the rest of the movie after that chapter?

Also, the first chapter has a black screen thumbnail. How can I change the look (but not the actual starting point) of that chapter?

What does 'close the disc' mean? Does closing it give better copyright protection on the movie being taken off the DVD?

Finally, how do I save all these chapters and settings so I can just a burn the DVD quickly next time without creating chapters etc? (I am creating a Disk file, but can I save it as a Project?).

AutoCAD Inventor :: Calculation Of Safety Factor

Dec 29, 2011

In the attached report, safety factor is se to calculate from ultimate tensile stress (485 MPa), and it indicates 1.33 with stresses:

Von-Mises: 323 MPa..............SF = 1.5
1st principal: 303 MPa.............SF = 1.6
2nd principal: -181.2 MPa....... SF =2.67

So, how is inventor getting 1.33 ?

EDIT: if I set it to calculate from yield ( 260 MPa) it accurately reports SF = 260/323=0.8

AutoCAD Inventor :: Negative Mass Calculation In 2013?

Nov 22, 2012

My company recently installed Inventor 2013. In previous versions we used a part with negative density similar to seawater to calculate submerged weight and CoG.

In IV 2013, it seems that the ability to calculate negative mass is not longer available.

This is how it worked in pre 2013 IV, when I could specify a negative density.

What I have is a spool made of steel. This spool is modelled as an iAssembly with four configurations:

-In air, empty

-In air, filled with glycol

-Submerged, empty

-Submerged, filled with Glycol

For this example, I now need three parts:

-Steel Pipe

-Glycol derived from the inside volume the pipe

-Seawater buoyancy derived from the outside volume of the pipe.

Each part has its own density, and the assembly weight and CoG correspond to the assembly configuration (with or without glycol) and environment (in air or submerged).

The seawater buoyancy represents the water displaced by the total spool assembly, regardless of the contents. To achieve correct weight in the submerged state, the buoyancy material has to have a negative density.

I do not want to make any of the mass parameters static, and I also fear that the CoG might not be updated correctly when using that method.

As I no longer can define a negative density, any optional method to achieve this without overriding the mass value.

Is it possible to change the length of a line based on the length of an attribute?

I'd like to make the line a MINIMUM length of X" (I haven't decided how long yet--but know I'll need a minimum).  But then after the user fills in the attribute, I'd like the length of the line to change to the length of the attribute plus a small amount (again, I haven't decided yet how much extra).

I was wondering if there is a way with DB's to have a line "follow" or "grow" with the content/value length of an attribute. Maybe some method of linking the attribute width to length of the line? Essentially, it would work just like turning on the underline setting when typing in mtext editor (or any program with an underline option for that matter), expect that the line could be placed anywhere, and would not have to reside directly below the text.

CorelCAD :: Creating Scaf Folding

Mar 16, 2013

cyl1.jpg

I don't know if this is common knowledge when editing 3D, but you can creates scaffolding to allow you to move the CCS more easily and place parts where you want. So the easiest way to get your parts placed correctly is with a little scaffolding.

Scaffolding is just a 3D part you create, with specific known dimensions, so that is exists in the model-space and either intersects it at different locations, or provides an external reference point to move the CCS origin to.

Here's an example. Suppose I want a 20mm long, 10mm diameter cylinder, with a 5mm hole all the way through the side, with it's center about 5mm down from the top.

Creating a temporary scaffold to locate the CCS origin is the only way to do it without having to use tools like MOVE and ALIGN, and may be necessary even to use ALIGN properly.

Here's how it works. Let's start with a cylinder.
