AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Get Length In Bom
Aug 20, 2012
we are doing a customization of part in inventor , where we have done fork plate with constraints in model and extruding it with inputs from excel sheet. the plate size is getting changed as per the input given excel sheet.
but during the 2d drawing generation, if i take bom - the length and width columns are not coming.

Is it possible to change the length of a line based on the length of an attribute?
I'd like to make the line a MINIMUM length of X" (I haven't decided how long yet--but know I'll need a minimum). But then after the user fills in the attribute, I'd like the length of the line to change to the length of the attribute plus a small amount (again, I haven't decided yet how much extra).

I was wondering if there is a way with DB's to have a line "follow" or "grow" with the content/value length of an attribute. Maybe some method of linking the attribute width to length of the line? Essentially, it would work just like turning on the underline setting when typing in mtext editor (or any program with an underline option for that matter), expect that the line could be placed anywhere, and would not have to reside directly below the text.

With using superelevation wizard in Civil 3d 2012, changing the lane width is not affecting the resulted values of transion length and run-off length, Is that correct ? ( as civil is using standerd AASHTO tables which assume that lane width typically is 3.6m )
Also, There is only 2 tables for 2-lanes and 4-lanes roadway, Is it for total road width or for one directon only, and what about different no. of lanes ?

I am creating a block with attributes for a standard job. I have (4) total attributes in this block (for example: panel type, qty, length in imperial, length in mertic)
I would like my length in metric attribute to automatically populate based on the input from length in imperial.
Is this possible?

I'm making a tube that is connected on another tube. I did this by skeleton modeling, for my tube extrusion i used Extrude To surface.
Is there any way to get the length of that extrude?
I know its possible to get the sweep length like this. Is there a way to get the extrude length as well?
'Set a reference to the active part document
Dim oDoc As PartDocument oDoc = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument
Dim oDef As PartComponentDefinition oDef = oDoc.ComponentDefinition
Dim opath As Path opath = oDef.Features.SweepFeatures.Item("TheSweep").Path
Dim TotalLength As Double TotalLength = 0

I have a problem with file path length BOM. I need to show in BOM only the last folder name, not the whole length of file location. At the moment i´m doing it manually and it takes lot of time to look and find each file location.

I just missing something or is there no way to get frame generator parts to list their lengths in feet?
I have authored some structurial parts and everything was done in feet, when I insert them directly from the Content Center, everything work like I want it to, but when I use frame generator they lengths are always in inches.
I know I can change it in the BOM but I'm trying to make it more consistant for everybody.

I have been able to create an upright with slots and holes to the length of 29-1/4" and via two seperate cut extrusions cause the part to shorten using iParts. I was told that the Frame Generator uses the parameter of G_L to populate the new cut length for use with the parts list. I have been able to create a frame generated part and get the length to populate the parts list however I have not been able to get my upright cut length to show in my parts list.
I did create a new property in my parts list column chooser, my BOM is set to Phantom, my .ipt parameters has a user parameter of G_L/equation of Length which above is listed as 29.25 in. Every thing that I can think of is the same from my frame generated files to my upright files.
Right now my parts list will not even show quantities of any kind. How to get parts list to show the cut length?

The frame generator gives the wrong cut length (G_L) when using double end treatment "Trim and Extend to Face"
See attached screen shot: The correct length of the diagonal RHS should be 1852 mm after trimming the RH end to btm and rh member. As far as I remember this is an old problem never been fixed. Is a lot of work manually altering the cut length of 20-30 member in the BOM.

In an attempt to change the unit display on a CC item (from decimal inches to fractional), I came across what, to me, is an issue. In the CC I set the length on a pipe conduit part to a custom column, with the range at .001 - 240 inches. I modified my filename column so it was a string that included the length value at the end. (ie Spool x length).
If I place from CC, as custom, a piece of this conduit, the filename does exactly what I expected. If I specify 24 in the length box in the CC dialog, my filename comes in as "spool x 24"... (or to that effect, I'm paraphrasing). If I do the same thing within the context of a pipe run in that same assembly... the filename, even though I chose place from CC, as custom, and specified a length, comes in as "spool x .001". Every time. And also, any spool pieces generated as a result of populating a route. I expect the filename there to be different as tube & pipe has it's own rules for naming spools... but the description field still generates as "spool x .001".
So, it would appear that the column parameters set in the CC, do not apply at all in Routed Systems? I may have to put this in the idea station... wish I had found it last year, now I'll have to wait another year for apotential fix.

I would like a part, that if i place it into an assembly, that it asks for a parameter (for example the length).Parts in the content center have this featere (for example tubes). I think this has to do with the driven length in the content center.
How do i create a driven length?

We design with a lot of tubing and pipe. Is there a way to add a custom property to the BOM that will automatically show the extruded length of, say, a length of pipe or tube? Also, is there a way to automatically calculate the total length of all tubing of a given size?

In an attempt to aid purchasine I have started adding a length and width parameter to our models. These parameters are converted to a purchase parameter either in square feet or per foot length depending on how the material is purchased. I would like the paramater to also automatically update if the part size is changed. I now come to a part made of a round shaft that is bent and am looking for a way to get an accurate length for it. The part is made with a sweep and the square corners are radisuesd in the sewwp. I could pull the three dimensions in the sketch and add them together to roughly appeoximate the length but that would not be quite accurate. As the number I come up with will also be used by fab to cut the rod before bending I would like it to be correct. Is there a way to generate an accurate length that can be saved as a parameter? In SWx I would create a datum axis in a sketch that could be used but I am not seeing how to do that here.

We've got a lot of pipe added from CC then manually edited the extrusion length (D2) while modeling (not using tube and pipe). Now I want to get pipe lengths from the BOM. Currently the BOM gives the PL parameter as length, which is incorrect.
I know I can rename D2 and mark it as an exported parameter and add that to the BOM.
I think I could also make PL equal to D2 which would also solve the problem.
Both of these solutions would require opening and editing hundreds of parts, taking a LONG time.

I have some code that find the length of a bend and it works great until there is a cut operation that passes through the edge of the part and through the bend. When this cut exists the systems recognizes the single bend 2 times which is fineand it should, just that it should also then be able to determine the length of each segment. It appears to be providing the length of the first segment twice. Any way to get either the segmented lengths or the length of the bend without the cut? I need a total length and the code below gives wrong data for the one edge length. the attached file shows what I mean.
Sub Bends()
Dim oDoc As PartDocument
Set oDoc = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument

We design long overland conveyors that can be kilometers long. In two separate instances, I have extruded a profile along a path that is a few hundred meters long with no problem. However, when the path gets to around 700 meters, the extrusion that worked fine at 600 meters simply falls apart. Does Inventor seriously have a limitation to length of an extrusion?

I created a inventor part by name "011-03-054-A-25x50 HS" 100mm in length. Used "011-03-054-A-25x50 HS" in a assembly and used the same part in another assembly. Then I created a ipart with a different length which is 250mm. Now I want to use 250mm length in the second assembly. How do I doit? I couldn't find an answer any where. I am using Autodesk Inventor 2013 in windows 7.
This was called configrations in Solidworks and was very easy to use.
