AutoCAD Inventor :: Turning On Visibility Of Line Segments In Drawings?

Oct 1, 2012

In drawings there are a lot of times where I turn off the visibility of certain line segments to make the view look cleaner.

What if I was to reverse the visibility of these lines segments down the road?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Solid Body Visibility In Drawings?

Sep 6, 2012

I'm making drawings of assemblies in Inventor 2012 and was wondering how to turn off the visibility of specific solid bodies within a single part containing multiple bodies, or make it match the visibility in the assembly and part file itself.

In particular my situation is that I have a camera whose part model includes a solid body for its view cone. The visibility of this solid is turned off, so when opening the camera itself, or the assembly containing it, it doesn't appear, but when I place that assembly or part in a drawing it's included, and the only way I've figured out to get rid of it is to turn the whole camera's visibility off within the drawing.

I know you can change the hidden line properties to make them continuous lines but is there a setting that will allow these lines to change automatically?

AutoCad :: How To Not Make Curved Line Break Into Straight Line Segments

Jun 27, 2012

I draw a curved line and would like it to remain as a curved line even after saving the file. However everytime after saving, and opening the file again, the curve breaks into many line segments, which is not what I want! I want the curved line that I draw to remain as a curved line even after saving and opening. How do I do that? I am using autocad2010.

I use the ARC command to draw a couple of lines, they look okay here. But after I saved it, and re-open it again, what previously appeared as curved lines changed in their appearance to polyline segments.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Line Visibility Through Solid Parts?

Oct 2, 2012

I am working on a cylindrical part, and I need to CAD an internal feature for the part.  I set up a parallel plane at the point within the geometry that the feature is to be located, and am attempting to sketch the profile of the part using the 2D sketch feature.  However, the lines that I am sketching are not visible through the rest of the existing cylinder, for example, if I have draw a 30 mm line from the centre point of a 20mm radius cylinder, only the final 10 mm of the line will be shown.  While the line is still functional, it is highly inconvenient when trying to sketch these features, they are difficult to work with as I can not see them through the part. Is there any way to set the defaut visibility for 2D sketches to be so that they are visible through solid parts?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Parts List Line Item Visibility?

Sep 13, 2012

Is there an application or document setting that will make the default state of a row in a linked excel file used in a parts list default to "off" (not visble)?

More specifically, make this apply to added rows.

We have finish schedules in excel that everyone links a parts list to whenerver they need to display a finish schedule on the idw. However, when we add rows (new finishes) to the the excel finish schedule, they get displayed on the idw parts list next time the idw updates wether they are needed or not. Our practice is to only show finishes that are used on the drawing - so frequently a large portion of the whole finish schedule needs to be set to "off" or invisible.

AutoCAD Inventor :: IDW Layers Resetting Line Visibility Not Staying Set

Sep 29, 2011

Inv2009.  SP2.

The company I'm working for has used inv for over 5 years, but does not use idw's.  (or the inventor dwg(idw junior))

The reason is that the on vessels we need to show some hidden lines and ommit others and the layers need to be our standard.

I'm trying to get us on track with the idw process which I'm used to using, I hate not having the link between the 2d and 3d stuff, a lot of rework.

Anyways I'm turning visibilty off on some hidden lines and changing the layer manually most of the time in the idw.

This is a bit time consuming but not to bad, what's killiing me is that when I save, re open, or do most anything with the idw or model; the lines I, right clicked turned vis off on reappear the layers I assigned (right click again) in some cases turned back to default, or in other cases turned to whatever they wanted to.

Revit :: Fat Colored Outlines After Turning Off Visibility?

Dec 20, 2011

I need to create some exterior snapshots of our model, which has just been completed to the 100% DD phase. The model has another Revit model linked in: the structural elements from our structural engineer. In the exterior shots, his pilings are showing and we don't want to see them in these images, so in the views I created I turn off his Structural Columns (which is the category for his pilings) in Visibility/Graphics Overrides. The pilings go away, but all of his elements now show with a fat colored line surrounding them.

Two questions: why are these lines showing when all I have done is turn off a model category in Visibility/Graphics Overrides? And how can I now turn off these fat lines? They do show when I create a PDF of the image.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Line Labels To Span Segments?

Mar 26, 2013

In trying to learn more about label styles, the C3D Help instructs one to:

2.  On the Layout tab of the Label Style Composer, select or create the label component that you want to span multiple          segments.

3.  In the Properties list, under General, change the Span Outside Segments property to True.Specify this setting for each component that you want to span multiple segments.

There is no "Span Outside Segments" to set to True in my Label Style Composer. The only T/F option under General is for visibility.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Line Labels To Span Segments?

Apr 3, 2013

Mastering C3D - the bit about spanning segments on an exterior line crossing several parcels. It works like the book shows except the crow's feet only appear at the start and end of the parcel's segment that I click on to insert the label, instead of the start and end of the whole segment. The distance the label reports is correct.

The crows feet are blocks inserted at the start and end of the direction arrow component (visibility false) in the author's style? I have turned the arrow's visibility on and can see that the arrow does not span the parcels.

I have another drawing in a later chapter on alignments that has the same spanning label style that works and I can't for the life of me discover the difference between the two.

AutoCad 2D :: Creating Smooth Transition Between Line Segments

Dec 19, 2013

I am a first time Autocad user and have spent most of yesterday trying to work through this issue but am still not able to perform this. I have attached an image which on the lower part of the lines shows arcs with large radii which transition to parallel lines in the upper part of the image. Where the two meet there is an abrupt change in angle which I wish to have as a smooth transition from the gradual change in angle of the arcing lines to the parallel straight lines.

This is how the transition between the line segments should look.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Part Line Colors In Drawings

May 1, 2013

It's possible to select a part in a view on a 2D drawing and change the color of all the lines belonging to that part.

This is really useful, but is there a way of assigning a line color to the .ipt file it's self, so that every time I place a view of that part the lines are automatically set to specified color?

This would also be useful within a single drawing when there are multiple views of the same assembly. e.g.

Part A would always be drawn in Red, Part B would always be green. This would really distinguishing between parts in complex assemblies. (Which I realise can be done manually but I think it could be done faster with less chance of making mistakes.) Currently, I color all the parts, but then if I make an additional view, the new view is all in black.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Top Line Assembly And Component Drawings

Oct 2, 2012

I have an iassembly model with iparts in it. I am trying to make one absolutely complete model rather than have several models with redundant parts in it. For example having the full assembly and making a Top Line Drawing from that, but then also making a drawing from the individual components.

So for example I have a Top Line assembly drawing with a tank with all the fittings, gauges, and instrument panels shown. Then I would want to make another set of drawings showing the tank itself, fittings, gauges, and the instrument panel. My main issue is with the tank drawing; the tank drawing is supposed to be simply the tank so I would need to remove the fittings, gauges, instrument panel etc.

I would like to know if there is a way to "Hide" or "Supress" the components that I do not need for a particular drawing without taking them out of the model; yet at the same time removing it from the BOM because they wont be necessary at this level.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: No Curves turn Into Regular line Segments

Aug 9, 2012

Our survey crew would like to upload a dxf file into their data collector in order to stake out linework such as curb & gutter with elevation. They have given up on using stakeout points as a standard procedure long before I arrived (being the cad guy I just figured everyone used points for  stakeout)  and up to now they would just use the 2-d linework and manually calc elev on their own. From what I understand our RLS didn't "trust" the data collector to use elevation for staking. Now that we finally talked our RLS into "trusting" the data collector as far as using elevation for staking we are running into problems with our feature lines when exporting to a dxf file. As you may or may not know when exporting to a dxf file it explodes our feature lines into lines, p-line, and arcs. Feature lines that have different elev & no curves turn into regular line segments and they still have the correct elev on each end vertex. Great. Feature lines that had the same elev for all vertex turn into a polyline with no elev or a whacked out elev. Featurelines that had a radius turn into polylines and/or arcs (I don't know what it's using to determine this) but either way the elev is zero or whacked out once again. No good!

So, using a dxf file in their data collector to stakeout linework with elevation? If, so what is your procedure?

Furthermore I find it absolutely ridiculous that... oh never mind, it does no good to complain about the complete lack of transparency between C3D, surveyors, and surveying equipment.I have tested the dxf file with both C3D 2011 & 2012. I have not tried it with 2013, maybe that has changed? Our survey crew is using a Tsc2 data collector.
