AutoCAD Inventor :: IDW Layers Resetting Line Visibility Not Staying Set
Sep 29, 2011
Inv2009. SP2.
The company I'm working for has used inv for over 5 years, but does not use idw's. (or the inventor dwg(idw junior))
The reason is that the on vessels we need to show some hidden lines and ommit others and the layers need to be our standard.
I'm trying to get us on track with the idw process which I'm used to using, I hate not having the link between the 2d and 3d stuff, a lot of rework.
Anyways I'm turning visibilty off on some hidden lines and changing the layer manually most of the time in the idw.
This is a bit time consuming but not to bad, what's killiing me is that when I save, re open, or do most anything with the idw or model; the lines I, right clicked turned vis off on reappear the layers I assigned (right click again) in some cases turned back to default, or in other cases turned to whatever they wanted to.

I have a bunch of students who load tool bars and dock their command line, but as soon as they close AutoCAD and reopen, the command line is floating again and the tool bars are missing. Saving and importing a profile does not seem to work!

I'm having a problem setting layers in various viewports. I set them (using VP freeze), they appear to be fine, I save, yada yada, but after a while all the layers turn back on within the viewports. Very frustrating. I am starting to think that there is a fundamental problem with my layers system- possibly having to do with my profile setting, but I don't know enough about setting and managing profiles to know where to start. Or it could be something else.

Command Line being undocked and not staying where you move it to? I'm setting up my AutoCAD 2013 install at work and I love the new Command Line functionality but I like it just above the Layout Tabs and to the left. Every time I close and open, geographically the Command Line is on the same X-Axis (in relation to the screen, not literally in a drawing window). But it re-centers on the screen.

I am working on a cylindrical part, and I need to CAD an internal feature for the part. I set up a parallel plane at the point within the geometry that the feature is to be located, and am attempting to sketch the profile of the part using the 2D sketch feature. However, the lines that I am sketching are not visible through the rest of the existing cylinder, for example, if I have draw a 30 mm line from the centre point of a 20mm radius cylinder, only the final 10 mm of the line will be shown. While the line is still functional, it is highly inconvenient when trying to sketch these features, they are difficult to work with as I can not see them through the part. Is there any way to set the defaut visibility for 2D sketches to be so that they are visible through solid parts?

Is there an application or document setting that will make the default state of a row in a linked excel file used in a parts list default to "off" (not visble)?
More specifically, make this apply to added rows.
We have finish schedules in excel that everyone links a parts list to whenerver they need to display a finish schedule on the idw. However, when we add rows (new finishes) to the the excel finish schedule, they get displayed on the idw parts list next time the idw updates wether they are needed or not. Our practice is to only show finishes that are used on the drawing - so frequently a large portion of the whole finish schedule needs to be set to "off" or invisible.

In drawings there are a lot of times where I turn off the visibility of certain line segments to make the view look cleaner.
What if I was to reverse the visibility of these lines segments down the road?

It's 2012. I haven't found a setting in the dim style or the RMB options to turn off the extension line. I saw the posts showing drawing a sketch in the view but come on, all that to just turn off the line?

My text was working fine til today, now when I try typing text, it is showing as a blank box, until I click outside of it, then it shows as a blue dotted line on the text. Then when I send it to the laser, it is not there!( laser engraver or the printer). I just want the text to be normal, like it was 2 days ago! Before, I could click anywhere, type, and it showed up with no problems!

AutoCAD insists on making newly created layers visible in all previously established viewports, even when I have set the visibility to off when creating the new layer. I have found to correct the problem is by going viewport to viewport (with the layer window open), clicking within the viewport and changing the layer visibility to "off."
I would like to have a global variable for new layer viewport visibility. by default, I would turn-off all visibility of new layers in existing or new viewports. Then I could turn them on where I needed them without having to clean up after AutoCAD. This is a logical default, because if I have not previously established a layer, it is likely that I would not want/need to see that layer in most previously established viewports.

I made a few changes to our Standard template. To test out the changes I made sketches, faces, flanges etc.Unfortunately, when we create a new part, the first sketch starts at Sketch17, the first face is Face11, the first flange is Flange4, etc. Also looking at my part parameters, I start at d53.
Is there a way to reset these counts back to 1? I know I can start a fresh template using the CTRL+SHIFT + new part, but this erases all changes to the template I have made.*

I'm running Inventor Pro 2012 (Student's license) via Bootcamp on a Macbook Pro.
I've recently noticed that the function keys (at least F7, F8 and F9) are not working as they used to. I now need to use the fn key and the specific function key in order to execute a command. This doesn't even work in assies so it isn't possible to view the constraints I've applied.
I've tried rebooting and resetting the shortcut keys (had never changed those settings) but nothing has worked.

I'm doing a road project. i've got profile grades of existing left and right ditches. in some sections we're redoing the ditches so i've got proposed left and right ditch profiles. what i want to show is where i've got proposed ditch grades, i don't want to show existing ditch grades.
The new ditches happen intermittently on the road so i would need to be able to turn off the existing ditches at various places. is this possible without exploding my existing ditch grades?

The problem happens in different blocks created in Autocad 2009. I need to make blocks with many visibilities and, sometimes, only a few lines need to be turned invisible from a visibility state. Many times when I remove the visibility of a line from a single visibility state, the line erased on all the visibility states. I make my lines "all visible" and it's not there anymore.
The problem is probably in my block since it's doing the same problem on someone else's computer. If the problem is my block, is there a way to "uncorrupt" it?

The top three layers as shown have information completed but it seems that I must have turned off the visibility in these layers yet they still display that the information is still there in the layers panel. And the work document is now in wire frame. I hope its not erased.

I created a building section and all grid lines appear. I selected all grids that I want to appear in the building section, switched to 2D, and adjusted as desired. From that building section I created a callout for a stair section detail. In the callout view, some grid lines appear but not all grid lines appear. I turned off crop view but they still do not appear.

The client I have has 1 seat of factory Ultimate and 8 seats of factory premium.
The issue is the premium seats have an issue when you turn the visibility off on a part in the IPN you cannot turn it back on. This is on all the seats of the premium. There is no issue with Ultimate.
The service pack did not fix the issue. Now I know Autodesk there will never be a fix for this unless I up-grade seems to be the Autodesk way in the past 3 years.

Did something change in 2013 as far as the way surfaces are displayed in an idw? the surfaces always always had to be "included" in a idw view. now they come in as regular geometry.

The attached part has multiple holes in multiple locations...... I want to show in the .idw one set "row" around the circumference at a time.
So I want to show set one, how far in from the end of the tube, then how many and at what degrees around the 360*. to do this i can only suppress the other features right now.
so when I make another View those same parts are suppressed and i cant change it around otherwise it messes with the holes I want and don't want to show in the previous view.

I sometimes edit parts in assemblies. When I turn sketch visibility on or off it does not stay the way I left it. I should be able to edit a part in part view or assembly and the view setting off or on should be how it was last saved. If I saved an ipt with the vision it should be on in any & all assemblies it lives in but its not. I have noticed the difference in new version 2012 - 2011 was no problem.

See attached screenshot.
Somehow my top level assembly shows the UCS triads for hundreads of my parts (but not all of them). I know I didn't turn the visibility of all these UCS triads on manually. Now I cannot get them to turn off.
When I toggle the visibility status of a few and save the file they come back when the file is reopened.
Note, they are NOT visibile in their respective part files, just in my top level assembly.

I have some serious fight this morning with AutoCAD. I have to dimension my drawings properly so it can be build. I did some already, a few aligned dimensions in an layout snapping on modelspace objects. when i put them all is fine and right dimensions.
BUT after i saved, closed the file and opened it again those dimensions are everywhere exept where i put them originally. And no the modelspace objects are not moved.
How can this be? can i solve this? or is this a know bug for AutoCAD 2012? i can't check all the dimensions before publisching again and again.

I am a user of AutoCAD 2014 plain vanilla. I created a title block for my company which has worked well for a year or so. Recently, I have been experiencing the following. After inputing info like an address, sheet name etc. into an attribute definition everything will be fine. When I go and work on other other pages in paperspace, and then return, I will find that the text has dropped vertically into an area it shouldn't. how to remedy this? Attached is a screenshot.
