Can I unfold a 3d object to get a 2d object. Example" If i have a cone with the top chopped off, can i get the 2d plan view unwrapped in this software ?
I got a simple question about the creation of copies of an object. Is it possible to have the objects in the mirroring of an object change with the object used as reference for mirroring?
If there is no function to do this directly is there a way to do it via Ilogics to update the mirrored objects? If possible even by deleting and creating a new the mirroring yet not manually but by i logic?
I have a part (ipt) and I want to attach a pdf to this file. From the manage tab, Insert panel, I pick Insert Object and then browse to the pdf file. Pick the file and then OK.
Instead of it placing the pdf in my browser, I get an error "Could not Insert Object".
I am trying to shell this object (a smart phone case) on the OUTSIDE by 1.8mm. It is giving me an error message with one vertex too small (in the corner). I have gone down to .05mm to reduce the thickness just to see if it will shell at all, and it does not. Any thoughts? I finally got shapes to sweep here to make the object the correct shape and really need the actual object to be a shell 1.8mm larger than this current body.
I am currently needing to map the path of an object which undergoes quite a complicated movement path during the operation of the machine. Is there a way for Inventor (or anything else within the Autodesk 2013 design package) to automatically map the path this object takes during its movement?
If not, are there any recommendations on how to map the path easily and accurately?
So I have a student who wants to put these lines in the object. Since it would be very difficult to make these lines enclosed and looking right is there anyway to put these lines in the object. I don't understand why Emboss works on letters but not lines. That is all letters are.
Essentially, I am attempting to create something similar to this: [URL] .....
But cannot get enough twisting action. I just need to know how to twist an object properly. For example, what I have done is created a two sketches of hexagons on offset planes, and lofted between the two sketches. If I rotate one hexagon sketch slightly, it will result in a twisting effect. However, if I want to get any significant amount of twisting, rotating the sketch does not work. I have tried with a goil, but that gets the entire object (with a sweep, in this case) to spiral.
I just popped off to a meeting, and when i returned the Object Browser has disappeared from my screen and i can't get it back. Where it might have gone or how i can get it back.
I have this obect (see attached IPT) with a piece that is cut off from the main object but I can't figure out how to remove it (the piece in the top left in front view).
I am using Inventor 2013, with the stl importer plugin also installed. I have had a objected scanned and the scan is been given to me in STL file.
As you may know that once something is scanned, it becomes a mesh object with many triangle faces. This is more evident on curved parts of the object.
Is there any way to smooth the surface so the curves do no look like very small step trying to form a curve? If the surface does not become smoothed out so its seen as one surface then I will have to adjust every small face at a time?
I have some "insert" constraints for DIN rails in holes. I've moved the holes, but the DIN rail doesn't move. The refresh button isn't "lighting up", or when it does, it does not do anything to move the rail. Is there something that's been "shut off" to keep things from moving?
I made the mistake that I came to measure my object as cm but inventor writes it's in as mm, is there a way where I can scale objectet up giving it the right size
I want to create a mold around my object that is supposed to be a sea shell so I can cast it with a metel pewter castor machine
I have made the object but not the mold can I create a mold around the object? The result should be similar to the picture below but I don`t know how to make a mold around my object. The mold could be a double mold consisting of two pieces of.
Is there any place in Inventor which shows the dimensions width / height / length of an object?
Please take a look at the attachment M3.jpg first.
I want to measure the overall height of this object. This is just a simple object to show my problem. I want to use the ruler tool of Inventor 2013 to measure the height, but I cannot make it.
I click the bottom line of thy cylindrical part, then I want to click the top most point of the half sphere, but I cannot.
Inventor always highlights the whole half sphere so I cannot specify the second measurement point exactly.
Why I cannot measure what I want to? The only solution is that I put the object in front view an draw a sketch and measure the sketch. What for I have a measurement tool?
I need (in VBA makro) save file to given folder.I want to do it with FileDialog object but I can't set folder in dialog windows with InitialDirectory method. There is always last used folder in dialog window. Why InitialDirectory doesn't work?
I am using Inventor version 2011. I wrote this code which tells me which object defaults style is active
Public Sub ActiveObjectDefaults()
Dim oDocument As DrawingDocument Set oDocument = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument Dim DrgStMgr As DrawingStylesManager Set DrgStMgr = oDocument.StylesManager Dim ObjDfStyle As Style Set ObjDfStyle = DrgStMgr.ActiveStandardStyle.ActiveObjectDefaults MsgBox ObjDfStyle.Name End Sub
Is it possible to change Active Object Defaults Style by VBA code (see picture below)?
I am trying to change Object Defaults in order to temporarily switch style which use layers with different line weights, and than switch it back. I am new to VBA so I am not sure if I am not trying to do something what is impossible.
I have a requirement to insert PDF files via an OLE object link into a large number of .iam and .ipt files. Is there iLogic code out there that will perform this feat? The plan would be to gather all file names and associated pdfs in an excel spreadsheet and run the iLogic against that.

The assembly in the attached files was working fine in 2011, then for some reason it stopped updating. So I opened and saved in 2012 and it still doesnt update.
Open the assembly, edit the extrusion in Copy Surface Master and change the distance to 500. You can see that the copied faces do not update in the other parts, but there are no error warnings.
I logged with my VAR and they said use derive instead and closed the ticket. Sure derive is another way but copy object with associativity should work so this is my way of bringing to autodesks attention.
I derived in a part and I am trying to use a sketch from it in my new part.
I am trying to revolve my sketch and when I do I get this error.
I am using a English version, and I cant read chinese at all. Design doctor shows no errors, but this will not revolve. Tried Extruding and get the same error. When I try to revolve, it shows a preview of my part correctly, but when I click apply in the revolve dialog, that is when I get this error.
The files are attached and here is a video of my steps. In the zip file, the -M8.ipt needs the EOF marker moved all the way to the bottom.
I'm interested in simulating an object that is held up by a number of ropes connected to winches, which can provide varying tension on the ropes. I'm fairly new to Inventor, and am not sure where to start.
