AutoCAD Inventor :: Get Dimensions Of Object
Jun 26, 2013How to get the Dimensions of the object using vb.net code.

View 1 RepliesWe use ordinate dimensions for all holes in parts. Unfortunately there seems to be features frequently left out of ordinate dimension mode. For instance, by default Inventor uses center and quadrant object snaps. Unlike in normal dimension mode, there is no right click option for disabling quadrant snaps. This is a constant annoyance, especially when dimensioning a print with a lot of holes. Is there any other way or hidden setting to disable the quadrant snap? In addition, add member is missing from the new "marking menu" completely so we have to enable the old right click menu to get it back. Are we the only ones using ordinate dimensions?

I typically as much as possible like to insert my dimensions into my drawing from my model.
I created holes in the model as a 1/4" tapped hole
Yet when I show the dimensions in the drawing they show the minor dimension.
How do I get the 1/4" to show? I have selected the feature and still get these results.
is there a way to lock the dimensions to aligned dimensions...or a key i could hold while dimensioning that would do that..
i have to dimensions a drawing where theres a lot of aligned dimensions to put and to do it manualy each time takes forever...

I need to dimension a line in the Z plane in the northeast view. The dimension is currently perpindicular to the dimension line. How to make it parallel with the dimension line.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter using autocad for a while, I got some questions i'd like to ask.
1) In my line of work, I have to label the items I draw in every CAD file, multileader is a nice tool to have but how do I keep the styles I make so that it "transfers" over to a new CAD file?
I have to keep making a new style everytime I create a new drawing. I would like for the default style to stay after I edit it.
2) Is there a way or command that lets me scale an object to exact dimensions? For example, I have a 800 by 750 table in my block library, the size I need is 950 by 820, normally I would have to explode it then stretch it manually on the x and y axis, is there a way to scale it up to 950 by 820 through a command?
3) I don't know what I hit, but I can't seem to select multiple objects just by clicking on them anymore, I now have to hold down the SHIFT key. How do I revert this?
I am currently working on the drawing which I initially didnt have a template for (ie the border for the A1 page this drawing will be printed on) so off I went and started drawing using a scale of 1 drawing units = 1mm.
Now I have been given the border and the drawing I have comes no where near fitting on the sheet so I want to select all of the drawing and change the scale but I obviously don't want the dimensions to change. How can I achieve this?
I also need to know as there are certain parts of the drawings that need zoomed in views so all I want to do is copy the parts I have drawn and increase the scale but again keep the dimensions the same.
i have a little drawing in modelspace. in paperspace, i have a viewport. let's say it's set at 1/4" = 1'-0". everything looks okay so far.
i click on the 'annotate' tab, and then select 'annotative' for my dimension style. it has the little triangle icon thingy so it should be annotative.
i make a couple of simple linear dimensions on my drawing (still in paperspace). looks okay so far.
but now lets say i want to change the scale of my drawing. i change it from 1/4" to 1/2" = 1'-0". my drawing gets bigger, but the dimensions stay the same size and position. they're no longer attached to anything on my drawing.
then i change the scale again, let's say back to 1/4" scale. my drawing shrinks, but as soon as it's back to it's original size, the dimensions now suddenly get twice as big and are where they should have been at 1/2".
and it continues like that, when i change my scale, the dimensions change to whatever the last scale was at, so that they're never synced up.
i'm wondering how to get orthographic views isometric view (with some dimentions) from an object ive already assembled with proengineer (student).
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a function in AutoCAD that lets you edit the dimensions of an existing object on fly like there is in Vectorworks.I have included an attachment of a vectorworks screen dump to explain what I'm asking. In the screen dump you can see a Rectangle is already drawn with the measurements of 1800,900 mm. This can be changed in Vectorworks via the dimension property box on the right hand side. Can this sort of thing be performed in AutoCAD?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I add dimensions to an 3d object in an isometric (or similar) view, the dimension lines get placed way off screen, and the leader lines are projected onto the x-y plane.
Additionally, when I try to add lines to an object that is far from the x-y plane, the mouse position responds to the line's location as if it were drawing on the x-y plane.
Do I have to continually make custom UCS coordinates just to draw in 3d without hassle? There are other times when this does not happen (perhaps only when my 3d object is very near the x-y plane...
We have walls constructed out of modular panels, represented by basic rectangles. Rectangles are a standard 16" wide. (length not important) Only when a rectangle is not 16" wide, would we need to show it's width with a dimension.
In multiple blocks I am creating, I need a stretchable rectangle, in which there will be a dimension.
However I do not want the dimension to show up when the rectangle is 16" wide. But I DO want the dimension to show when the rectangle is not 16".
So... When the rectangle is 16" wide, no dimension is displayed. When the rectangle is NOT 16" wide, a dimension is displayed.
pic of three rectangles next to aforementioned stretchable rectangle. When the one on the right is 16" wide I don't want to see a dimension.
Working in AutoCAD 2010. Recently I've started to notice that the dimensions on my print are not exactly aligned with the model/object. Only the dimensions seem to be shifted slightly in two directions (~1mm?). On screen, everything looks great.
Typically, I design 3d parts (model tab), then in the layout tab set up viewports (mview), and dimension in paper space...
Is there some paperspace offset I may have inadvertently invoked?
Is there a way to regroup dimensions origainally drawn with a system variable of (0) to (2) without redimensioning the object?
View 9 Replies View RelatedHow to set up a dynamic block so I can control the size of an object through parametric dimensions that are linked (somehow) to a lookup table, spreadsheet, list, etc.?
What I'm trying to do (simplified) is place a block of a rectangle, select a size from a dropdown list, and have the block change to be that size - but I don't want to do this through visibility states as there are hundreds of sizes. The whole point is to be able to construct a list, lookup table, excel sheet, etc and link it to parametric dimensions in the block, or at least be able to link a stretch action to parametric dimensions. But the block editor will not allow me to associate a stretch action with a parametric dimension (at least I haven't figured out how to do this.)
When I draw an object in Illustrator, I am not getting the small gray box that shows its dimensions as I draw. Also not getting the green "intersect" tip when I begin drawing at a corner of the document. I'm using Mac 10.8.2. I have both a laptop and a desktop, and the laptop works fine. It's on the Mac Pro that this problem happens. I checked to make sure all preferences are the same on both machines. I updated Illustrator also.

View 2 Replies View Relatedis it possible to display dimensions when you select the object (Appeared inside the object ).
As because i have to look for the property bar again and again for the dimensions since my eyes are soring as it appears in very less size. If it appears the inside the object with appealing big size, then it could be easier for the user to note the size instantly despite of observing the property bar.
I get the following exception message while debugging, after pasting VBA code into my vb.net project:
"Object reference not set to an instance of an object"
Without going to specifics yet, I commented-out ObjectCollections and the error happened further down in the class.
Is there a different way ObjectCollections are handled in a vb.net class, versus a VBA module?
I have a cylinder with an 18mm diameter.
I export my ipt to an stl (and I make sure that I click on options before I convert and make sure the units are in mm) yet the units are still off. I am using Inventor 2013.
It seems like most people were able to solve their problem by clicking on options but even that seems like it is not working for me.
All of the sudden after I sketch a rectangle i need 8 dimensions instead of 4. how do I get it back to only needing 4?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been reading here that the preferred mode of generating dimensions on the drawing views is by using "Retrieve" method.
My question is: how can I programatically add dimensions or measurements to the model so I can retrieve them in the drawing view? This has to be all done by code.
tmpApp.UnitsOfMeasure.GetStringFromType(Inventor.UnitsTypeEnum.kCentimeterLengthUnits)
returns "zentimeter"
Is there also a function which returns the unit sign "cm" ?
Is there actually a good reason why dimensions in IV are vectorless? If not, can we consider as a feature request? This gives me constant headaches in Inventor with my sketches and mates solving in unpredictable ways. I know I can use work planes as a work around, but it's a huge PITA.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am dimensions moving around in my drawing files and I am trying to figure out why they do this. I change one little thing on my models, open the drawing, then spend 30 minutes going over every dimension in comparison to the old drawing trying to find all the ones that moved erratically and put them back where they were. Most of the dimensions that move don't have anything to do with the change I made to the model.
For example, the dimension in this picture used to be on the other side of the other extension line, and it was never that close to the geometry:
