AutoCAD Inventor :: Need 8 Dimensions Instead Of 4?
Apr 3, 2012All of the sudden after I sketch a rectangle i need 8 dimensions instead of 4. how do I get it back to only needing 4?

View 6 RepliesI typically as much as possible like to insert my dimensions into my drawing from my model.
I created holes in the model as a 1/4" tapped hole
Yet when I show the dimensions in the drawing they show the minor dimension.
How do I get the 1/4" to show? I have selected the feature and still get these results.
is there a way to lock the dimensions to aligned dimensions...or a key i could hold while dimensioning that would do that..
i have to dimensions a drawing where theres a lot of aligned dimensions to put and to do it manualy each time takes forever...

I have a cylinder with an 18mm diameter.
I export my ipt to an stl (and I make sure that I click on options before I convert and make sure the units are in mm) yet the units are still off. I am using Inventor 2013.
It seems like most people were able to solve their problem by clicking on options but even that seems like it is not working for me.
I was adding a lot of aligned dimensions to a drawing and some where along the way they changed from aligned dimensions to rotated dimensions, even in the same string of dimensions.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been reading here that the preferred mode of generating dimensions on the drawing views is by using "Retrieve" method.
My question is: how can I programatically add dimensions or measurements to the model so I can retrieve them in the drawing view? This has to be all done by code.
tmpApp.UnitsOfMeasure.GetStringFromType(Inventor.UnitsTypeEnum.kCentimeterLengthUnits)
returns "zentimeter"
Is there also a function which returns the unit sign "cm" ?
Is there actually a good reason why dimensions in IV are vectorless? If not, can we consider as a feature request? This gives me constant headaches in Inventor with my sketches and mates solving in unpredictable ways. I know I can use work planes as a work around, but it's a huge PITA.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am dimensions moving around in my drawing files and I am trying to figure out why they do this. I change one little thing on my models, open the drawing, then spend 30 minutes going over every dimension in comparison to the old drawing trying to find all the ones that moved erratically and put them back where they were. Most of the dimensions that move don't have anything to do with the change I made to the model.
For example, the dimension in this picture used to be on the other side of the other extension line, and it was never that close to the geometry:

I have a part made by a former co-worker that appears to have some dimensions locked. The second feature on the attached file is a pair of rectangular cuts. I would like to edit the dimensions of the hole, but when I select a dimension I am unable to enter any numbers in the dialog box.

Quick question...
Once a 3D object is drawn/completed in Inventor LT, how does one go back to the object to change the length/radius of certain objects without having to completely redrawn the object. For instance, imagine a bike wheel that is fully draw. Later perhaps one wants to go back to the wheel and adjust the radius of the spokes and the length. How does one do this quickly. In 2D I see how, but can this also be done in 3D with Inventor LT?

Is there a way to break dimensions in Inventor like in Autocad? It automatically breaks around certain things, but I'm wondering if there is any way to control this.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to submit a bunch of parts to a machine shop and he needs them in a 2D format with dimensions and I don't know how to put them into that format.

View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery time I take an assembly and make an idw, I also need to do a save copy as dwg. However when I do so, the dimensions of my assembly have changed.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI use autodesk inventor proffesional 11 and when I try to change the dimensions it dosent work.
View 3 Replies View Relatedin Autocad it was easy, in dimension style I could set up dimensions to be rounded to 5 ot 10 or any other value.I now need to set dimension to be rounded to 5mm (5, 10, 15, 20 .......). And I can not find a way to do that.
View 5 Replies View RelatedAlso be sure to pick the 'aligned dimension' method and not the 'linear dimension'. I hope that works in Revit as it does in AutoCAD.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI need to find out the view a retrieved dimension belongs to - is there a API call available?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to reposition dimensions in a drawing through the API. The output of my code seems to indicate the method is working, but after it runs the drawing is unchanged. Here's the code (in VBA):
Dim oDoc As DrawingDocument
Set oDoc = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument
Dim oSheet As Sheet
Set oSheet = oDoc.Sheets.Item(1)
Dim oLdim As LinearGeneralDimension
Dim oLeaderNote As LeaderNote
Dim oDimLine As LineSegment2d ' Dimension Line
Dim oStartPt As Point2d ' Dimension Line Start Point
Dim oEndPt As Point2d ' Dimension Line End Point
[code]....
Looks like it moved my vertical dimension left, but it doesn't actually do anything. Is this not a viable method for repositioning a dimension?
For some reason I cannot stack dimensions anymore. Even when I try to stack mtext it doesn't work. Is there something that may have been changed in dim styles or anywhere else that has caused this?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI created a sketch then tried to retrieve dimensions in a drawing from the sketch. When I used the retrieve function, no dimensions appeared. I made sure that the box in the Application Options under the Tools tab was checked for retrieving all dimensions upon placement. I have tried numerous ways to retrieve the dimensions, and while I can place them manually, I really need to be able to retrieve all at once as seen on the sketch.
I have been able to use the retrieve function before on files that I downloaded from a website so I know to use the function.
I'm attaching a file which I am having trouble retrieving dimensions. I am using Inventor 2013 educational version.
When I save to acad my Dia dimensions are changing to a 4 place decimal. My radius dims stay the same.

How do I change one of the dimensions in my sketch to be metric while maintaining the rest as a standard dimensions?

Is it possible in VBA to automatically generate dimensions on a particular view?
Some told me that retrieve dimensions tool will be applicable. Looking for sample code for retrieve dimensions?
I'd like to take a set of ordinate dimensions and multiply all the values by 10. Is this possible, without overriding the values and making them static?
The reason I'm asking is because I'm making a flat layout sketch for pockets around a drum. So imagine taking a drum and rolling it out flat. In the direction along the drum I drew it as 1" = 1" and for the circumfrence direction I did 1" = 10° so I don't have sketch that is 13" x 360". So I need to scale the dimensions in 1 direction up by 10.
we do a lot of sheet metal fabricaton, using inventor and autocad to create the drawing for a laser then the pars are formed on a press brake.
My problem is showing necessary diminsions for the press brake when there are 2 or more bends. The first bend is no problem I can show the diminsion from the edge to the bend for the backgauge setting, the second bend needs a diminsion from the flange of the first bend to the bend line of the second bend for a back guage setting. That is the diminsion I am having trouble showing on the drawings.
I would like to give the press operator the backguage settings on the drawings.for each part.
regarding obtaining the dimensions of a simple retangular prism?
In this particular case (file attached) the geometry was imported from Revit, so it's really just imported SAT file. After importing, "Make components" was run to generate individual part files. The resulting part is therefore created using the origin of the parent assembly, so although it's "just a box" - it is spatially displaced and oriented at an unknown angle.
I'm looking for a way to identify the 3 dimensions that define the shape of the prism.
I got a new computer recently and installed Inventor 11. I found I could not change the drawing dimensions (It chanced in the Edit Box and shown the changes in the dimensions, but after click "OK", the Edit Box closed and the dimension did not change).
I remember there were the similar problems before and I installed KB918118 fixed it. So I tried to install KB918118. But my computer shown a message saying my computer system is newer and do not need the KB918118 update.
