View 2 RepliesI've been teaching myself inventor over the past couple of months so I can design the rear suspension setup for my car.
I've got the IRS modelled with enough detail to show my engineer the concept, but I want the suspension to "work", ie each link will move as the suspension flexes.
I'm attaching the arms (blue, dark green, red and yellow) to the cradle (orange) using the joint command, and selecting "rotational". This works fine and the arms can swivel about a single axis as they should. But as soon as I attach the knuckle (lime green) to the other end of all the arms using the same type of joint (except the joint with the blue lower control arm, which is a ball joint), nothing will move.
I understand that in real life, each joint has a bit of "slop" in it, allowed by rubber bushings, which prevents the whole setup from binding.
To my uneducated mind, the solution would lie in one of 3 methods: Convert all the joints to ball joints (I'd like to avoid this if possible) Add some kind of flexible rubber bushing to all of the joints (probably not possible) Get rid of the rotational joint constraints altogether and somehow mate all the parts to each other using work points, rather than a cylindrical bolt and eyelet, so that each arm has full range of movement in both the X and Y axes.
I have binded an alignment drawing into another drawing. I am still able to use the alignments for calculations however they do not show up in toolspace. What is the reason for this? Can i export the alignments and import them without having issues now?
View 5 Replies View RelatedIm using autocad 2008 and i'm having difficulty in binding xref. i've been usign autocad for 3years now but sad to say, it's my first time to try binding xref.
So here's the scene, got xref file, then bind it, and then the whole xref drawing disappear but the xref filename is still in the list at the xref pallette? What should i do?
This drawing file doesnt allow copy to clipboard or even binding on to other drawing. It was originally sent to us from another company, I have deleted all the objects and layers, purged it. If I create a new line or other object, Ctrl+C doesnt work.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI wondered if there is a way of changing view reference from one object to another.
Example.
I have two similar models but drawing done for one.
I could save it as with a different name and replace in all the views referenciing from old model to new one.
Possible?
I have a set of 40 drawings and the title block is a shared jpg image that is referenced, is it possible to bind this image to each drawing, I have tred etransmit with no success.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a situation where it would be expedient for me to be able to bind only one instance of an xref and leaving the others intact. I have to do this for several different x-refs. Is this possible in Autocad 2008? If I use the xref manager I can only see an option to bind the entire reference.
View 7 Replies View Relatedi need to send a drawing out to a clent of our's. it has a XREF with it . so here what i do. open drawing, purge it, go to xref manger highlite the referrence, right click, hit bind, Bind Xref/DGN underlay window comes up check bind hit ok it go thur it stuff. the xref disapear from the drawing but it still shows in the xref manger with a coment on the command line that say : Error : at least one of the specified xref failed to bind for an unknown reason.

I realized many people need code in a txt file so I have attached two from my previous posts.
Both are having the same problem where the code runs to completion but does not update the xrefs. I am still guessing there is some xref edit that I am missing other than database.xrefeditenabled
Is it possible to bind a drawing and have only the objects visible in the viewport to remain in model space after binding. I'm working with some pretty big models and am trying to reduce file sizes after binding.
View 3 Replies View RelatedUsing ACA 2012 and Windows 7 Pro x64. I have a drawing with two viewports. In one I'm showing the electrical layers and the base floor plan. In the other I'm showing casework and the base floor plan. All of the layers are contained in one xref so some are frozen in each viewport. When I bind that xref using the insert method (bindtype=1) some of the electrical layers show in the casework plan. I've tried everything I know of but I can't figure out how to surpress this behavior. If I use bindtype=0 the problem goes away but I end up with ugly layer names.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI get the following exception message while debugging, after pasting VBA code into my vb.net project:
"Object reference not set to an instance of an object"
Without going to specifics yet, I commented-out ObjectCollections and the error happened further down in the class.
Is there a different way ObjectCollections are handled in a vb.net class, versus a VBA module?
Is it possible to map something OTHER than F keys to Actions? I can't figure it out if there is a way!Is there a way to program a conditional into actions (e.g. if multiple layers are selected...)?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen exporting to CAD formats image files such as company logos do not stay within the CAD drawing created. View 3 Replies View RelatedI am creating a program place object on drawing by using loop. I may need to place 1000 object. at the moment the drawing graphic part doesn't update which placing, it update after placed them all.
I call my func from a PaletteSet, after place them all i use
acApp.DocumentManager.MdiActiveDocument.Editor.Regen()
I would like to see object appear on the drawing while placing them, like object.update in COM
How can I select all the objects (lines, plylines, etc) in the drawing using C# + AutoCad?

View 1 Replies View Relatedi modeled a geometry now i wanna to bind it to a skeleton, But i got a little bit doubt about smoothing its mesh before or after binding?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having tons of trouble with the hair system for a character I've made. One that I'm very stumped on is for the rigging. I have a skull cap with hair on it and then the character separate. I have created a skeleton with which I want to smooth bind to the skin. While the smooth bind seems to be working, I'm having issues with the hair not following the global skeleton when I move it. The character herself moves, but her hair stays put and I don't know where to go from here to make her hair follow. I have tried combining the skull cap and character. I have tried grouping the skull cap and character. I have tried just about everything, but the hair will not follow. The most I could do was make the follicles and skull cap move, but not the hair. Any way to get the hair constraints to move along with the hair system after it has been binded, that would be great too as I have used hair constraints to form her hairstyle.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm working a drawing orginally developed in C3D 2013 and am now working in 2014. I have developed a speadsheet in Excel 2007 and have link pasted a portion of a worksheet into my drawing. Later, i have to re link paste the same portion of the worksheet after making some edits and the object will now not paste into the drawing.I have tried the following without sucess:
-Load drawing into C3D 2013 and try to paste
-Load drawing into C3D 2014 on another machine and try to paste
-Save excel spreadsheet as a .xls file instead of .xlsx and try to paste
-Run audit in 2014 (no errors) and try to paste
Other drawings loaded into 2014 work OK when link pasting.
How i can get Database object of Drawing file with out opening.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two open drawings, a source and a destination drawing in ACADI have different layers and linetypes in each drawingI need to get the objects on a specified layer in the source drawing and copy them to the destination drawing, but ensure that they are put on a specified layer in that drawing which differs in name from the original drawing.
I've tried coming at this a few different ways, but can't really seem to come a conclusion on how to do this. WBlockCloneObjects, of course, allows me to clone the items to the new drawing, but in doing so, drags along all the layers and linetypes with it which I don't want "contaminating" my new drawing. I'm trying to keep the conversion as clean as possible. I can't pre-change the layer name or linetype, etc as the destination for these values doesn't exist in the source drawing.
Is there a way to create a new entity (an anonymous one, independent of the source ObjectClass that I need so I don't have to create multiple routines to handle each one), not attached to a DB, copy the values from the source DB entity and then modify the layer, linetype, color etc before appending the entity to the destination database?
Here is my code for what I have, but since I don't really have a clue where to turn with this, all this really shows at the moment is a straight cloning of the objects from one DB to another. As a side note, I'm working in Civil 3D 2011 and when WBlockCloneObjects is called an "AutoCAD Map Messages" window appears with no messages in it.
Public Function CopyLayerContents(ByVal acdocSource As Document, ByVal strSourceLayer As String, ByVal acdocDest As Document, ByVal strDestLayer As String, ByVal bCopyBlocks As Boolean) As Boolean

Dim acSourceDB As Database = acdocSource.Database
Dim acDestDB As Database = acdocDest.Database

Is there a way to count all types of object in a drawing?
Like this:
Command: ????
Number of blocks: 22
Number of 3d faces: 2
.
.
Number of hatches:1
"Qselect" does it but it can be very slow if there are a large number of objects in the file.
I guess this information is savea as "meta data" and can be accessed even without opening the file???
I have a AutoCAD MAP drawing with the pipe size assigned as object data to various lines in the drawing.
Is it possible to display the pipe sizes as a text entity parallel to the line? How would I go about doing this. First prize would be if the value of the text changed whenever the object data is changed.
