AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Model Concave Shape Ring
Jun 24, 2012I need to dels a ring in concave shape. Its very easy to do it in 3D model in flat shape but how do I do it in Concave form?

View 9 RepliesI am working on a project and figuring out a way to fill a concave space I have with a seperate solid that takes up the exact amount of space. I would like for this new solid to be its own part. I will post a picture so you can understand what I am reffering to. As you can see, there is a concave space in the middle of the design; what I am looking to do is fill this area with a type of foam, so I need to model something that fills all the spaces up to the top plane.
I have tried using the thicken/offset tool but it gives me errors on vertexs and such and I have tried many different selection variants. I did get the space to fill in but then ran into the problem of it being all one solid, not something I could take out and make a different part, which is what I am looking to do.
I need to make a rack for a machine I am designing. We use a variation of this now but I need to change the rack we have always used. The rack is on a radius and the teeth are on the inside of said radius. I plan on using the same tooth profile that we are currently using but i was wondering if there was an easy way to pattern this.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI made an API-spec 10K cross, 7 1/16" x 2 1/16". I got everything done including the passages and boltholes for the studs. But I need to cut grooves for the BX ring gaskets. It is basically a block of steel with two different size holes through the center with bolt circles (and ring gasket groove) at each opening. I am still a bit of a beginner and I am stumped on this one problem. If it were AutoCAD I would have cranked out the solid model in about 15 minutes (or less if in a hurry) but I want to learn Inventor.

I was trying to extrude a ring formed by two circles with vb.net for a part.
Think I need define the profile with sketch block. If there any sample code shows how to use it? Is there a website like the autocad.net where I can get the sample for the api?
I started to model up a lifting cradle but do not know how to progress further.I attached a 2013 version of model done so far. How can i place 4 chains on the top bracket to a ring?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am trying to calculate flex on a metal ring I have designed and are a bit confused with the contacts that I am getting when using automatic contacts.
Please see the pictures attached for reference.
When I use automatic contacts I get all bonded contacts, but I get the impression that bonded contacts are welded and that is not the case with my design it is bonded using bolts.
Which contacts would you use for this part? Or should I simplify it? Can I run it in the stress simulator?
I want to engrave the text 'TEST' all the way around this clonal object. When I use the emboss tool, selecting the option 'wrap to face,' it gives me an error message that the "face selected is not tangent to the profile plane."

i am trying to draw an aircraft and after drawing the windows, i got stuck. i am trying to revolve a shape around the shape of the window (oval) but it won't recognise that shape as an axis. i can't click it. is there a solution to this?

About 40% of the time, the REVCLOUD command will finish the cloud as concave. It will start correctly and be correct the entire time I am surrounding an area on my drawing and then when the last arc joins the starting point the entire cloud become inverted. Why? Is there something I can do to make it not do this? I don't seem to have any control over how it finishes. When it completes backwards, I fix it using PEDIT > Decurve then I convert the Polyline into a cloud and it appears correctly. Is there a better way?

Usually, when I try to fillet one edge it creates a convex fillet. and if I want it to be concave instead?

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy problem today is that I made a Model of a Part of a ship using surfaces rather than solids because the engineer thought it would be easier to bring into ANSYS program for analysis but he is now having a problem with it and I am looking into converting my current model to solid. I can do it but the method I thought of using is quite long winded and we are working to a tight deadline.
1.open up the surface part
2.use "Offset/Thicken"
3.any clashes between parts make a sketch and cut away.
the problem is the amount of plates I have and the time it takes to sort them out.
My problem is we need to have the lettering on the concave side of the sign. How would I make the flat lettering I have in the elevation shot follow the curve of the sign in the plan view?
I usually do most of my autocad drawing in 2d, I've done a few things in 3d but I'm not that experienced. I say that because I was thinking maybe I could make a 3d model of the flat elevation shot and bend it into radius I need.
i have the bottom half but then it has to has curved surfaces going up

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen applying a linetype to a curved line (e.g. polyline, arc, circle), the direction of the linetype reverses at every change from convex to concave. The error does not occur with straight segments. The REVERSE command does not work, because it will change the direction of the entire polyline. In fact, the reverse command does not even recognize and arc.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to model a box like shape with ripples over it's surface. The box can have rounded corners and edges. The ripples need to flow over the 6 faces of the box. I want 2 or 3 sets of ripples, originating in different places, interacting with each other.
My modelling skills in Max are not great. I generally use Inventor for modelling and Max for lighting, materials, animation and rendering. I've followed loads of tutorials on ways of doing this, but haven't quite managed it yet.
My latest attempt has been to use the patchdeform tool. What I've done is
1) modelling a plane, with many segments
2) applied the ripple modifier to the plane
3) created a box with smoothed edges/corners
4) converted the box to a patch
5) tried to patchdeform the plane to the box - get 'illegal patch' error
The above work with a sphere rather than a box. I'm not convinced this is the best way to achieve what I want.
We received a surface model from a vendor that I have patched up as best I can, it still has one hole that I can find that I haven't been able to fill. Ideally we would like to have a solid model, but I'm running out of time to get this done and the surface model we have would be good enough for our purposes IF I can get the yellow surface tangent lines to turn off or change their color to black.
I've attached a jpg of the surface model with the yellow lines and uploaded the model here: [URL].....
I'm modelling a pen, the problem is that its bottom is not flat, it is a section of a sphere, that goes inside the pen, I've tried soft selection, relax, but I can't make the shape, I could use booleans to cut the sphere out of the model, but I' avoiding booleans because they destroy the topology.

Best technique to model the round foot with the concave design that seems to wrap around the foot (Highlighted area). I have tried a number of ways and have ran into problems such as pinching around the corners, the mesh overflowing over the top of the corners and hard edges that dont seem to want to be softened, but now I am picking the expert brains as far as a technique that might be better suited.

I've got a picture of a ring lying on a surface (3D pic).
I'd like to make some text so it looks like it's on the ring, encircling it. How do I do that? I've tried all the free transform functions, no results.
I am trying to create a ring like the one below. This one is scanned from a business card and is not very clean. I want to make a high resolution image that I can wrap around a sphere using about the same angle.
I have played around with the Ellipse tool and then tried to skew or distort the image, but I am having the most trouble with the two places the ring is broken and comes to a point.
I have a picture of the erath, (globe). I am wanting to make a ring like staurn, so when you look at the globe, the ring will follow a curve, go around the back of the globe and then come out around the other side and join up. Basically as you see in a picture of planet Saturn.
how do i build this effect. I have tried the warp and transform tool, fine but getting the efffect that the ring goes around the back, comes out the other side is proving some what difficult.
how do I make the ring hide around the back of the globe??? I also have tried different layer and moving them about.
