In Inventor 2012 I want to create my own .dds file so I can use it as a reflection option in the application options. I've tried it several times by converting a picture into a .dds file using Paint.Net but it won't recognize the file when I put it into the Textures folder. Is there a way I can do this? Also, is there a specific size it needs to be?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create a PNG file that maintains its reflection which was captured in-camera. The end result would be that the PNG could be used over any colored background (easy for the object) and the reflection takes on the color of the background (not easy to achieve if you can't multiply the reflection over a colored background).
The image was shot on a white background but needs to be able to fall on any color. It would be easy to use the path around the object to isolate the background to a new layer and simply set the layer to Multiply. I realize that, but these PNG files could end up being used by anyone, and they may not have Photoshop, but rather - Powerpoint.
I've developed a process that does this to a degre, but I end up with a white halo around the feathered edges of the reflection (not shown in the example above - see below).
In the shot above, I've split the (very subtle) reflection in a layer set to Multiply, seen to the upper left along the edge. To the lower right is the same reflection with a white hazy halo bleeding into the feathered edge, and this was generated using the process below. Remember, everything is shot on a white background so the reflection has white feathered into it. I'm like this close to desirable results, but the haze has me stumped.
Here's how I got the right side to be transparent without using Multiply, and saving as PNG. Anyone who opens the file should be able to place it over any color background, supplied to them in PNG format.
1. Using high res JPG image, convert "Background" to Layer 0.
2. Activate Path 1 as selection, invert selection and copy all area around product. Paste that copy to new layer.
3. Using same selection, delete all area around product in Layer 0. Now the product is on a separate layer from the shadow and reflection.
4. Duplicate reflection layer and invert. Turn off all other layers. Go to Channels pane, select Blue channel - Command-click channel - Copy.
5. Return to Layers pane and add layer mask to reflection layer. Delete duplicate layer from step 4.
6. Go to Mask pane (CS5) or Properties (CS6) and click on Mask Edge. Slide the Shift Edge parameter to +100.
7. Run Levels on reflection layer - set the Input mid to .96 and set highlight Output Level to 250.
8. Select background image area using mask - subtract subject from selection using path and run Exposure on reflection layer from menu command: Image/Adjust/Exposure: -0.24, -0.15, 0.70. (Using an adjustment layer for Exposure will not work. It saves to PNG with a different outcome when reopened)
9. Set reflection layer opacity to 60%.

It doesnt seem like it matters what type of material I choose or the color that I choose. I have found some older fixes that date back to 2008 but nothing for 2013.This link is the only thing that I can find and as I said it is for 2008.

I have a problem with Inventor 11 Studio. The reflection on the ground made by "XZ Reflective Gp" works in a way that when rendered, it shows a partial or cut reflection of my assembly, see attached .jpg file. I have not found yet where this "reflection depth" is regulated.

However in 2013 the properties aren't being reflected anymore. For instance the WorkAxis object only has a Visible property reflected.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a step file of an assembly, the assembly consists of maybe 50-100 parts. I am currently running Inventor 2009. In a new part file, I derive the assembly to make it one solid entity. Then I save that as a step file. However when i open the step file, i have a bunch of extra "parts" in my model tree. These parts seem to be where the bolts and threaded holes interfere or not all parts joined to the main solid model. How can I eliminate this?
Also on a side note, is there anyway to change the orientation of the WCS?
IV 2012.I need to make a non-standard thread to mate with a purchased component. Is there a way of creating it in my ipt file so that the hole and thread tool in the idw pulls the correct data?

Some of the folders have 6 or 8 versions and there is also a duplicate EN-US folder within the EN-US folder with nested folders. So bottom line i have multiple locations and nested files within the content center. Needless to say there is a lot of time spent pointing inventor to the parts necessary to open an assembly.
We are working on a network and are all pointing to the same content center location. We are all using the same project files. Sometimes it works as you would expect, other times not.

I have created a parametric, multibody master part file to derive parts from it, and then put them in an assembly. See attached file. Now, I need 3 different versions of this setup (with different values of the parameter 'bending_angle').
What is the best way to do it? If I derive parts from it, they always follow the *actual* status of their master file. Is there some method to do this: "derive from this file, with parameter bending_angle=55deg", but keep the dependency relation, i.e. if I modify something on the master file, the derived part fill follow the modifications (with the value of bending_angle=55deg)

In the drawing environment, is it possible to use the same file to show a client (example) option a or option b from the file? Meaning, can I create a separate side by side view in the idw using the same assembly file, but in different suppressed states? Or how does this work specifically? Right now all I have done is saved out the file with the different suppressed state showing, but this became obviously cumbersome quickly since the parts are similar and keep updating, thus forcing me to create yet even more optional files. I'm thinking that iLogic could be a possible fix.

I guess it was a droplet, "when the file is opened or created then add file info from a xmp file". I still have the xmp file with all the data in but i am unsure how to implement it being automatically opened and added to the file when i create a new one? I thought i could handle it, i assume its a droplet of some sort.

Similar to how an include file would work on a webpage, ie: create the menu as an include file, then all pages that reference that include file would have their menus changed when that single include file gets modified.
Or another way of looking at it: like how headers/footers work in word, ie: change the header or footer and all pages in that document are automatically modified.

I am trying to create a centralized .arg file, so that if I make a change to this default profile all the machines will immediately see the change.
Currently I can only get this to work by importing the new profile, and i can't really ask 40 or so draughtsmen to re import when a change has been made.
AutoCad see's the file but does not update any changes.
I am looking to attach custom attributes to autocad features (lines, polylines, polygons, points) so that when we insert the dwg into ArcGIS the attributes are linked to the feature in both autodesk and gis. I am thinking a dwg seed file will perform this task .

Click Application menu> Print> Manage Plotters.In the Autodesk Plotter Manager, double-click the Add-a-Plotter Wizard shortcut icon. When I click on "Manage Plotters", windows explorer opens the folder where our pc3 files are located. I don't see Add-a-Plotter Wizard shortcut icon?
I've never created a pc3 file from scratch. I've modified existing pc3 files and done a save as before, but I need to create one from scratch in 2013. Some of the old ones won't work as others have explained here [URL].......and it was suggested to make a new one. Also, when I edit a pc3 file in 2013, I no longer get the option to either "Apply changes for the current plot only" or "Save changes to the following file".
I have an AutoCAD drawing (I did not create it) of a proposed trail in my city, and I've been tasked with making some kind of model or render of a section of it. I'm at a loss for how to even start, unfortunately. In the end I would like to have an accurate 3D model of a boardwalk section of the trail with surrounding terrain. I have Sketchup, Google Earth, and Revit at my disposal.
My first problem is topography. When I import the CAD drawing to Revit it seems there is some topographical data, which will be needed to realistically build the boardwalk on top of. I was able to get the terrain of the area into Sketchup from Google Earth, but then I don't know exactly where to build the model.
I've attached an image of a floor I created in the outline of the boardwalk. The area in question begins at the two handicap parking stalls (represented as the two blue towers for some hilarious reason) and ends at the second square (a viewing platform). My preferred method would be get an accurate topograhic site in Revit, build the boardwalk, and then place surrounding vegetation so I can get some renders.
EDIT: I've attached "Screenshot 2" which shows I found I was able to create terrain in Revit by selecting a layer of the CAD file. However that layer is suspended above, and my placeholder floor is underneath. Now I just need to get the floor (representing the boardwalk) to go along the terrain.
I'm trying to create a profile from a txt file but I keep on getting this error message ''chainage XX+XXX.XX either outside of alignment limits or within gap created by a chainage equation'' . The txt file has chainage and elevation and the formatting is OK, so I don't get what the problem is.

I have all of the data in a text file (that is set up correctly) with the northings, eastings and elevations. I can get that to import the points and it is correct but I cannot get the contour lines to draw. I need the intervals to be .25ft with a major line every 4. there is about 1600 different data points.
Steps to create them from a text file? To get the points in the file i used "_MAPIMPORT"
also, the data is in an L shape so how to create a boundary condition to only contour that L shape and not try to connect points on opposite ends of the area?

I have create surface from contours, then extract faces, extrude them, union and I got solid..
I have export solid like stl file... But in another program my surface is not smooth, like somethning went wrong while exporting stl, because in autocad civil 3D 2012 everything looks good.
I have found out how I can increase facetres to 10, but It has not affect to my stl file. If there is some another parameter for better resolution of stl files?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI need to create a truncated contour map based on data from a .asc file. I have connected the .asc file but there is no option for adding with query so I have brought the whole file in.
I then created a contour layer and added to map (all good so far) but when attempting to query this layer for my area of interest nothing appeared on screen.
I then did some manipulation of the sdf to create polylines at the contour elevation and tried to MAPTRIM but I stopped Civil 3D after having "not responding" for 15 minutes

I want to create a whole load of layers (approx 150) by importing them from a xls spreadsheet into my AutoCAD layer manager. How this is achieved without having to create each layer at a time by manual entry? Note that I created a .las file (attached as a .txt version) based upon exporting an existing set of layers to a .las file and then amending it. However, after saving the amended .las file it would not re import into the layer manager.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently encountered a problem when exporting C3D to V8 dgn. The proxy graphics are set to 1, and I'm using a 3D seed file. Once the file is exported, the dgn file size is no larger than the seed file, and I am being told that the file is completely blank. I've run a recovery, audit - everything I can think of the correct this. I even had a co-worker try and generate a dgn from the same file with the same result.

When a new Civil3D file is created, there are some blocks available for insertion when I type "Insert". So these are the preloaded blocks defined by Civil3D. I was wondering if I can define my own blocks and have them automatically loaded when creating a new file?
