Is it possible to create projection views of a solid model part? I want to make a front, top and right side view of the part in solid model form all on the same part file. I thought I could copy the part in each view but "help" says I can't copy a solid model.
View 4 RepliesIn the drawing environment, is it possible to use the same file to show a client (example) option a or option b from the file? Meaning, can I create a separate side by side view in the idw using the same assembly file, but in different suppressed states? Or how does this work specifically? Right now all I have done is saved out the file with the different suppressed state showing, but this became obviously cumbersome quickly since the parts are similar and keep updating, thus forcing me to create yet even more optional files. I'm thinking that iLogic could be a possible fix.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have a conveyor belt profile, which covers a length of 2330 meters and a height of 150 meters. We have a place a elevation view of the profile in an idw file at a scale of 1:2500.
We would normal place detail views on the elevation view to zoom in on key areas of the belt, i.e. drive area etc. In all previous release of inventor had no problem. However Inventor 2013 displays the following error.

The specific inputs did not create sweep geometry (faces and.or edges). Try by changing path geometry and/or create the profile on a sketch plane that is perpendicular to the path and contains one of the path vertices.

I have attached the part file and also the idw file that we are using.
When creating Views in .ipn files, using View Reps from .iam files, you get "Options" window where you can check Associative box, or leave it unchecked. How do yo get back to this window once the view is created?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIf it is possible to create a sectional view from my model and place that section in a new viewport without changing my other viewports. I have several viewports in my drawing but I need a certain detail section of the model but I do not want any of my viewports to get affected.
I can not have anything added to my model, since later on I will be using this drawing as a xref and I only want the main model to be carried over and not a section detail.
I wish to display an Assembly as a Drawing.
However when the Base view is created it also displays surface geomerty created for referencing.
I attach a PDF which shows this.
Even though these are hidden in the respective Part files, they keep showing up in the Drawing and I cannot find a way to hide them. How to stop this from happening? BTW I am using Inventor 2013.
I made this part, which is a loft consisting of five symmetric squares. I plan on laser cutting each side, which would be exactly the same.
I can't seem to figure out how to make a flat projection of one of the sides. I have tried in sheet metal, but I don't use that feature in my line of work.
Just by selecting a bend line on the flat pattern, I'd like to draw only 2 lines on a sketch (without any border projection, only points) at both ends of the bend line.
I'm sure it can be done via VBA, but don't know how to start for it.
Every time I try to create multiple section views in Civil 3D 2014 the system hangs and never generates the views. It looks as if it's processing but it never stops and never generates.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm having problems using the "Project Geometry" command when I'm editing a sketch on a part, and attempting to project geometry from an assembly on the part.
Now in this example, this is the structure of my parts:
Assembly 1
-Fabricated Part 1
-Assembly 2
--Fabricated Part 2
--Fabricated Part 3
(Assembly 1 and Assembly 2 do contain more parts than what is listed, I just simplified it so I don't have to type out the hundreds of parts used)
Now, I want to project Fabricated Part 1 onto Fabricated Part 2. I use the following steps to do this, starting out by working in Assembly 1:
Double click on Assembly 2Double Click on Fabricated Part 2Create sketch on Fabricated Part 2Use Project Geometry command to Project Fabricated Part 1 onto sketch of Fabricated Part 2
This is where the trouble starts. When I try to project Fabricated Part 1 onto Fabricated Part 2, it gives me an error message of:
"Cross-Part projection failed because the sketch is in a part which is adaptive in another assembly"
Fortunately this is about as intuitive of an error message as you can get, simply Fabricated Part 2 is already adaptive in another assembly, and when you use "Project Geometry" it automatically makes the part adaptive to the assembly you are projecting from, and you can't have two assemblies driving one part, so it gives me an error message.
Only problem is, this is a part I just made, that isn't used in any other designs, and isn't adaptive in Assembly 2. Nowhere does it say which assembly the part is already adaptive in (I know it must have that info stored somewhere, as it needs to know what is adaptive where, I just don't know how to get to it).
Now that Projecting Fabricated Part 1 in Assembly 1 to Fabricated Part 2 in Assembly 2 doesn't work, I tried to Project Fabricated Part 3 in Assembly 2 to Fabricated Part 2 in Assembly 2, which strangely does work.
Basically whenever I project geometry found in Assembly 1 onto Fabricated Part 2 it fails with the above error message. Whenever i project geometry found in Assembly 2 onto Fabricated Part 2, it works. Neither Fabricated Part 2, or Assembly 2 are adaptive.
Now I'm wondering if this is a workflow problem. This is how these parts were made:
Assembly 2 is similar to another assembly found elsewhere called Assembly 3, the only difference is that in Assembly 3, I need to change Fabricated Part 4 to a different part, all other parts remain the same.
Therefor I open Assembly 3, do a "Save as/Save Copy As" and save it as Assembly 2. Now I need to make my changes to Fabricated Part 4, so I open it, do a "Save as/save copy as" on it, and save it as Fabricated Part 2. In Assembly 2 I then do a Replace on Fabricated Part 4 and replace it with my new Fabricated Part 2. I now make the changes I need to make to Fabricated Part 2.
I started at this company a couple months ago, and that was the workflow explained to me, and it seemed to work. I wasn't aware of any damage it could cause, as I haven't used Inventor before, so I went along with it. Since that time I'm working to implement Vault, and my knowledge of Inventor has increased, and I've become aware of a program thats called Design Assistant. I'm thinking doing the "Save as/Save copy as" function is keeping some legacy information of my old part, making it think it is adaptive in another assembly, when really it isn't, it is the part that I did the save as from.
So two questions: is using Save as/Save copy as a valid way to quickly copy designs, or should all copying of designs be done with Design Assistant?
Also, Is there any way to view where this part thinks it is adaptive in? The trouble I see, is using Save As has been done for a very long time here, so the part I did the Save As from, could have been Saved As from another, then Saved As from another, etc. etc., and it would be almost impossible to track down (if that is what caused the problem).
how to change the projection to third angle projection for ALL of my drawings in Inventor 2010?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been trying in vain to change the projection type in my styles editor to 3rd angle and keeping it like that for all future drawings.
It's easy enough to change projection type for an individual drawing by going through Manage > Styles editor > View Preferences, but I'd like all drawings in future to default to 3rd angle. I've tried saving the file as a new template (many times) in Templates > Metric but they always default back to 1st angle projection.
Sometimes when i creating multiple views (sections) in section display option page there are nothing displaying.(surfaces).

I'm uploading the .dwg and .txt files. I'm trying to get volume calcs cut and fill between two surfaces and when I compare the data between AGTEK's Highway 3D there is different results. I looked into it to find these random line appearing in Autocad making what seems to be the problem. Where are these coming from and how do I fix? Also, if you could anwser how can I insert a sectional following the 12'-23' offsets and dropping 1.16' down and adding it to my design surface. I want to make a big box there added to design surface.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen creating cross section views ("Home>Section Views>Create Multiple Views"), my sections are being placed at the exact boundary of the viewport (viewport is per my template).
Surely there's a way to create a margin inside the viewport.
Here's a screen shot of what I'm seeing. Notice how the dotted "Plot Area Boundary line is going right thru the left axis labels and on top of the bottom axis blue line (which means the bottom axis labels will NOT be seen).

I've tried it several times by converting a picture into a .dds file using Paint.Net but it won't recognize the file when I put it into the Textures folder. Is there a way I can do this? View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a step file of an assembly, the assembly consists of maybe 50-100 parts. I am currently running Inventor 2009. In a new part file, I derive the assembly to make it one solid entity. Then I save that as a step file. However when i open the step file, i have a bunch of extra "parts" in my model tree. These parts seem to be where the bolts and threaded holes interfere or not all parts joined to the main solid model. How can I eliminate this?
Also on a side note, is there anyway to change the orientation of the WCS?
IV 2012.I need to make a non-standard thread to mate with a purchased component. Is there a way of creating it in my ipt file so that the hole and thread tool in the idw pulls the correct data?

Some of the folders have 6 or 8 versions and there is also a duplicate EN-US folder within the EN-US folder with nested folders. So bottom line i have multiple locations and nested files within the content center. Needless to say there is a lot of time spent pointing inventor to the parts necessary to open an assembly.
We are working on a network and are all pointing to the same content center location. We are all using the same project files. Sometimes it works as you would expect, other times not.

I was curious if there was an option to set up what linked view would be set when creating and duplicating views. Its a little time staking when you have 6-7 linked files and need to make 20-30 elevations/sections. I was thinking there would be a way to setup the views so they're ready to go when you create them.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have created a parametric, multibody master part file to derive parts from it, and then put them in an assembly. See attached file. Now, I need 3 different versions of this setup (with different values of the parameter 'bending_angle').
What is the best way to do it? If I derive parts from it, they always follow the *actual* status of their master file. Is there some method to do this: "derive from this file, with parameter bending_angle=55deg", but keep the dependency relation, i.e. if I modify something on the master file, the derived part fill follow the modifications (with the value of bending_angle=55deg)

When i am creating section sheets from multiple section views ,section sheet view port scale changes.I did set it correctly in my template.
For example it changs from 1:150 to 1:150_1
Then in section sheets scetions views are not displaying correctly.
When i change view port scale manually it shows correctly.But it should do to all sheets.
What should I do?
In model spacr multiple section views are showing correctly.

I am trying to create a second base view (using Layout/Create View/Base from model space). The problem is, I need it to be rotated from the original base view. However, when I rotate the part in model space, ALL of my views change.
So I guess my question is, how do I create multiple views of the same part that are seperate from the other base views?
