AutoCAD Inventor :: Best CPU To Use For Inventor Between I7 And Dual Xeon System
May 16, 2012
Upgrading to a new computer.
1. What is the best CPU to use for Inventor between the i7 and the a Dual Xeon System
2. Would 32GB of memory easily cover all modelling such as assemblies?
3. Any advantage of having 2 x SSD instaed of 1 x SSD
4. Looking at the Nvidia GTX690 graphics card....this should be a good card

I cannot figure out how to dual dimension a bend like so:
DIRECTION DEGREES RIMPERIAL [RMETRIC]
e.g. DOWN 90 R1/2"[13] preferred
or DOWN 90 R1/2"[R13] okay
There should be a degree symbol after the 90 in my examples but I can't figure out how to type it here. I can get DOWN 90 R1/2"[DOWN 90 R13] but it's too long.

I don't know if it's a bug...
When using dual units on a drawing ( millimeters and inches for example) the symbol "diameter" is no reproduce in the second unit ... see pictures below!

We want to use dual dimensions for holes and figured out how to do this by editing the styles. This works great except for threaded holes the dual dimension is redundant as shown in the picture.
Is there a way to not have the dual dimension for threaded holes but keep them for other holes? Having a dual dimentsion for a metric thread or having it printed twice on the drawing is pointless.

is there any way I can place dimension on drawing that would be in dual units (in decimal degrees and in deg min sec)?
I did not find this possible so far.

Info:
OS: Windows 7 Pro
CPU: AMD FX-8350 @4.2ghz
GPU: Nvidia Quadro K4000
Monitors: Dual Asus 24" 1920x1080
Memory: 16gb
GPU Control Panel: Nvidia Version 331.65 for Quadro K4000
Autodesk Platform: Product Design Suite 2014
When I section a view and edit the hatches, the 'Edit Hatch Pattern' window always opens off-screen. I have changed the settings in the GPU control panel to have everything open on the last window, but this window will not abide. I move the window to the Inventor window (monitor 2), but it will re-open back to monitor 1 in the exact same position every time.
The 'Edit Hatch Pattern' window seems to be the only window that does this in Inventor. Attached is a screen cap of the issue. The window opens in the same place each time.

However I cannot find a fix? Is there one? I am trying to install Autodesk Inventor Suite from USB, and I KEEP GETTING THIS ERROR ON INSTALL - "Cannot update system components now. Please reboot the machine and try again."
Things I have tried -
1. Rebooting
2. Different account (admin, both domain and local)
3. Downloading trial from Autodesk, installing
4. Complete removal of .NET, reinstall
5. Enabling updates (mentioned in thread)
It installs just fine on other machines, same enviroment. I cannot find a "checklist" of system components needed for Inventor to install correctly; I've read from other threads it needs .NET, C++ Redistributable, that's about it.
Is there anything I can do without wiping the machine? Is there a checklist for versions of components required for Inventor to run?

I try to reposition the origin of the coordinate system of a sketch with the pop up menu, on the RMB.
I position it correctly, then press enter-nothing happens. i RMB and select OK, and when i check again-the coordinate system remained in it's previous state. I did it a few times with 2 sketches and gave up

When ever I want to change the sketch plane for a already finished sketch, I use rmb, redefine and choose new plane/ planar face.
Why does the sketch position change from the original coordinate point when redefined to new plane?

I have had several sheet metal parts return error messages to edit the sketch coordinate system after the part has been modified. This usually pertains to a dimensioning drawing made to the flat pattern. I have found how to edit the coordinate system, but I don't know what to edit it to. If I select the center point I can drag it from where it sits to an existing corner and select done but that seldom resolves the issue. What is Inventor looking for? I sometimes get a message asking if I want to edit the axis as well but what to do there.
Why can't these sketches orient off the center point that is already in the model? If it would stay put I could dimension to it and be done but it has to twist and turn the model and then put the point on some corner, not usually where I would like it and then I get these errors if I alter the model later.

I have some trouble with my coordinate system, it doesn't work like i want it to do...
This is how it's now:
Sketchplane = YX(+Z)
Sketchplane view = Front
Groundplane = ZX(+Y)
Groundplane view = Bottom
Home view = Front(up), Bottom, Right
But I want it to be like this:
Sketchplane = YX(+Z)
Sketchplane view = Top
Groundplane = YX(+Z)
Groundplane view = Bottom/Top
Home view = Top(up), Front, Right PERMANENT!!!
How to do?

when i am creating a coordination system in Autocad and after that i want to export it in Revit, there is aways difference between the two reference points, the one from the Autocad file and the Project base point in Revit.
I managed to mach them by moving the autocad file, but i don't think this is the correct way of doing it.

So here's the situation: I have been importing parasolid files into Inventor. When doing so, a folder named "Imported Components" would pop up right next to the parasolid file, with individual Inventor part files of all the assembly parts in the parasolid file.

Having problem with a particular file crash/freeze/not respond whenever using the shell feature on Inventor LT 2013? I am operating with Windows 7. I have the AutoCAD Inventor LT 2013 Suite. Just bought the computer two weeks ago and just installed Inventor about two weeks ago also.
In any case, it seems the file of this model is corrupted, as I have never had a problem using the Shell feature before this and shelling other objects even while the corrupted part is open works fine. However, if the "visibilty" of the part in question is checked and i click on the shell button, the program immediately freezes. I am not sure how to work around this and I really do not want to start the entire part modeling over from scratch.
Working with... Autodesk: AutoCAD Inventor LT Suite 2013 | OS: Windows 7 | GC: ATI 6670 | Mem: 8 gigs RAM | Proc: Intel core i5 | Monitor: Acer V213HL

How can I create a flat belt driven system? The drive system and the flat belt are in the attachments of this message.
What I did until now was to create a part for the belt within the assembly (extrude part). The sketch is depending on the position of the rollers and everything else. Although when I create the belt I can no longer move the system. If I suppress the belt, move the system and unsupress the belt, the belts assumes the new positions.
My purpose would be to be able to still get a variable assembly so I could also make a dynamic simulation of the system.

This can be done with Solidworks 2011 files but our vendor upgraded his software between the time he sent us test files to try the import and now. Can you tell me if the is a plug in or something that will allow us to read SW 2012 files or should we upgrade to Inventor 2013?

When I make a part in Frame Generator, by default it will name the part a big lengthy name like "frame 000001 etc etc". Is there any way that I can change the default naming system and include parameters in the name (the parameters is not necessary, but would be useful).
ALSO, if I name 2 parts the same name will it show up as "QTY 2" in my parts list?

In video (zipped MP4) you see a cutout of both screens, think of screens changing at the left of the browser.
Now, in many cases, after doing an operation, the browser is jumping back to the middle of my graphics in the left screen.
