AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Create Hatching For Slopes Surface Style Instead Of Using Solid Colors?
Dec 15, 2012Is there a way to create hatching for the slopes surface style instead of using solid colors?

View 2 RepliesI am looking for either a corridor style or surface style to display slopes while in plan view while working on a corridor. I know you can turn on slope arrows as a surface style, but I am actually looking for the grade to be displayed next to a slope arrow. Hopefully I am explaining it properly.
I just am looking for a better way to spot errors before putting surfaces into machine control without checking station by station in the section editor.
I am trying to create a label for slopes in cross sections for a surface created from breaklines using gade breaks as you can not weed segment labels
I am weeding the labels out based on the change in grade of the section profile and making the label text high very small of the labels I do not want to see. But the first label returns ??? because there is no grade coming in so I get ??? instead of something usefull like null. Any way to convert?? to something you can evaluate and use.
Can I hatch a 3D solid surface? Do I have to create a 3D face on top of it beforehand?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a surface with all sorts of heights, and want to add color to different heights. Getting the color there is not that difficult, but how do I swap them around? i.e. red is 'low ground' and blue is 'high ground'. In Holland we use it the other way around though, so blue should be low ground and red high ground.
Where exactly do I change this? I've tried it in the surface style tab, surface properties tab, analysis tab, and some others, but no success so far.
I'm using 2D solid level band surface styles when generating simple flood maps - In order to manipulate I generally have to extract the surface objects (faces or hatches) which gives me a single face or object per triangle within the surface.
I then try and get round this by using a combination of various Lisps and Union to wind up with a single boundary that I can then use in ordinary AutoCAD and 3rd party software. However on big surfaces this is killing me as I have 50k+ triangles, so 50k+ faces or individual hatches, so its causing 15min long unresponsive stalls on my PC.
What I'd like to do is simply export the boundary of each level band to a polyline, or even better to extract the whole solid band as a single hatch object. Is this possible within C3D as it stands, or is there a lsp out there
I am using ACA 2011. I have a rectangular building with a standard 8" CMU wall pattern. I need to edit that pattern so it reflects a 10x8x8 CMU block. What is the proper procedure to set up a new wall style or can I just tweak the 16" length to show as a 10" length block in this file?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if it's possible to add surface slopes on grid (similar to how there is a tool for adding spot elevations on grid). I can do them individually at a grid spacing but that's tedious, and considering you can add spot elevations on a grid, I'm not sure why this wouldn't be possible.
If there isn't a built-in tool for this, would it be possible to make a block of a bunch of one-point spot slopes and you simply choose which surface & the insertion point when you insert the block?
I have a large ex surface that I have divided into basins and such. I know need to evaluate the slopes in these areas. To do the whole surface at once seems to not be possible. Is there a way in c3d to view analysis information for a section of surface for instance in a polyline or fence?
View 3 Replies View RelatedOur provincial standard requires subgrade and subbase surfaces to have a normal cross slope of -3%. The base and asphalt surfaces have a normal cross slope for the driving lane of -2% and -5% for the shoulder.
I have been trying to figure out how to do this in C3D. I have thought of different ways of handling this for a straight tangent, but have not tested them. What is causing me the most grief at the moment is how to handle this in a curve with super elevation.
The transition will be different for -2%, -3% and -5% Runout distances.
Can C3D handle this? What about using Subassembly Composer?
(I should mention that I have tried with Subassembly Composer, but I am not sure how to deal with superelevation. -
I have a surface made out of 3Dfaces as shown in the .jpg attachment i added. I would like to have it hatched. What are my options?
I use Civil 2012 and have experience with AutoCAD plain, but only try to learn Civil 3D at the moment.
I have a surface and i have the outer border of a pond i want to create (see attachments). What makes it difficult for me is that different areas of the pond have different slopes. The area marked as "A" has a slope of 1:5, the are has a slope of 1:2 and the rest of the pond has a slope of 1:1.
My problem: I do not know how to grade the borderline so i end up having a surface with different slopes as my pond.
how to create an assembly with different inclinations of terraces and slopes
View 2 Replies View Relatedi am having a hatching issue, it seems no matter what hatch pattern i use and what hatch scale, alot of the hatch looks solid instead of the pattern i want, for example i am using currently ANSI37 @ Annotative with a scale of .20 and on the same paperspace page one plan with the hatch shows the cross hatching and the other one below looks solid (see attached) now i can go and say change the hatch scale and it reverts to the cross hatching, but then when i zoom out it goes back to "solid" is it a graphical issue?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to lay a mesh on top of some contour lines. I've also tried the loft command, but with little success.
I've tried several terrain plugins, but they all seem to malfunction because I have overlapping contours. Here is the dwg, what I'm trying to make.
I cannot figure out how to create a solid surface on top of the retaining walls and also how to grade the transitions for the high to low points of the retaining wall. This would be so much easier for me in Solid Works
Untitled.jpg
As you can see, the nature of my model forbids me from making a 3D solid using LOFT.
The top surface is consisted of 3D polyline and arc, which if "joined" will be become a spline.
The bottom surface can easily be joined into polyline.
If I loft the top and bottom, it'll only give me a LOFTED Surface, which is not I want (wanted a 3D solid).
I have created a surface in Civil 3D by adding contours....... Now that I have created the surface I need to Exoprt it to .sat / .stl files. But in order to do this I need a 3D Solid.
How do I convert this service to a 3D solid in order to the the export?
I have tried the thickening option in the 3D Modeling workspace but it doesn't want to accept my surface.
Im currently using an addon for Civil 3D called Novapoint. It allows me to create 3D models of surfaces made out of 3d faces and easily models cut and fill 3d-models for me.
The only thing i need to create a cut and fill model is one or several ground surfaces (existing ground, earth layers, rock etc. whatever i need) and a closed polyline/3Dpolyline that represents the level I want my cut and/or fill model.
I enter the spcifications I want such as; earth cut angle, rock cut angle, fill angle, select which surfaces i want to include in the model calculation and select the polyline.Novapoint then calculates the cut/fill model from the surfaces to the polyline and models the different cut/fill angles and gives me the results in a 3d-face model and a specification of the volyme of rock cut, earth cut an fill.
1. Novapoint is quite unstable and crashes alot
2. You cant create profiles out of 3d faces
3. Novapoint does not automaticly combine the start surfaces with the modeled cut/fill surface
4. A large surface made out of 3d-faces demands alot of computer power
So I want to how I do the same that Novapoint does for me in Civil 3D? (I have access to Civil 3D 2007-2013 depending on which one you're using)I know I can take the 3Dfaces i created in Novapoint and make a surface in Civil 3D with them but I want to exclude Novapoint completely.
I have section views created from corridor model that also have had materials computed. The cut and fill areas are hatched solid and I want them set as another hatch style but after attempting to adjust the pattern it does not change. How does one change this and have it show? Civil 3d 2013 is currently being used but may have to back track to 2009.

I'm playing around with render materials and have the material assigned and the surface style to show only triangle in model view. When I go to Realistic view style should the not show?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI customized a surface style to show relative elevations, with lighter tones representing higher elevations, and darker tones representing lower elevations. With a single glance, I know the high and low spots in my project area.
C3d provides several default surface elevation styles. None of them comes close to providing the instant, data-at-a-glance information that my customized style does, which I use to design stormwater systems. Again, it's really useful to see, with one look, where the high and low spots are in my project area.
I can't figure out how to export, transfer, copy, whatever, my customized style from one drawing to a new drawing. If I want to see my customized style, I have to recreate it from scratch in each and every drawing where I want to use it.
How to transfer a surface style from one drawing to another? By the way, I tried opening up both drawings, with both toolspace/settings windows open. Tried dragging and dropping the customized style to the new drawing. Didn't work.
I have created a surface spot elevation label style. I have several surfaces. How do I associate the style with a specific surface?
View 2 Replies View RelatedA way to associate a default profile style with a surface. In other words, I would like to set a different default profile style for each surface. Same could be true for sections.

I'm trying to export the object as ACIS and import it in Hypermesh, in order to process it and make some pressure loading studies. The problem is that if one face of the object is not hatched or represented by a wireframe, the respective face won't be imported with the rest of the object in Hypermesh(applying materials doesn't work).

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have surface style (could be slope or spot elevation) with a 2 line component, and text component above and below the line. I'm trying to create on style for many options. I'm using c3d 2013, but moving to 2014.
I would like to do the following after placing the label:
1. adjust the length of the line component. (ex: as I rotate the lable, the length of seg 1 changes )
2. turn off one of the line component
3. adjust the angle of one of the line component.
4. when drag, the length of the line changes to a new value.
and while I'm asking, is there a way to move/rotate/drag the syle to a percise distance. I want the leader to be 1 unit long at 30 degree angle.
