Aug 8, 2007I am trying to create an expression so that I can put the Dc into my alignment curve label. I am using (5729.58/Radius) for the expression and using Double for the format which comes out fine in decimal form as in a curve with a 200' R comes out to be 28.6479º, the problem is that I need it to come out as Angular DMS... when I switch the format to angle it comes back as 1641º24'14".

Degree of curvature (Da) can be calculated based on two different ways
Arc definition (considering 30 meters arc length):
Da=1719.74/R
Chord definition (considering 30 meters chord length):
Da=ASIN(50/Radius)*2
The issue here is that there is not built in option to label the curve with its degree of curvature.

May 4, 2012I need to create a subgrade surface for a landfill project. I have already created profiles and sections on a 200x200 ft grid along a baseline alignment that follows the center of the proposed landfill. In my profiles and section views I have drafted in my proposed subgrade elevations.
Is there any way to create a surface by selecting critical points along the profiles & sections? I would prefer not to use a grading group b/c the site is in excess of 200 Acres, and the grading tools tend to crash Civil 3D 2009 on large sites.

Nov 3, 2011I am trying to constrain a point on a sketch to the intersection of an axis with my sketch plane... and I'm having some trouble. I can't select the axis when I select the "Project Cut Edges" and the "Project Geometry" is of no use because the axis is not normal to my sketch plane.
I'm trying to cut holes normal to my sketch plane on a curved surface using points projected from an overhead sketch.

Aug 22, 2011I've built a project up with several smaller project file components. It's an easier way to create a video than editing one big project.
Opening the overall project and running it on screen is not a problem. However, when I try to create a smart package of the composite project, I get a consistent error message rejecting the process because of the existence of the component vsp's.
Is there a way to avoid the error and create a smart package from a project file that has smaller component project files?

I'm trying to create a point or axis in the blue corner points (to attaches something later on) but it just won't let me choose it for some reason. I know that it's possible to to do that (almost sure I already done this trivial thing in inventor.)

Feb 3, 2012I seem to be having trouble with polar tracking on. With this activated and in front view I can only create a line in up or down (Y) direction. I cannot create a line along the z axis. This happens randomly so I must be overlooking a setting somewhere.

Nov 6, 2012I am using projected and sketched geometry (2D sketches) in assembly space to create lines/ points that I intend to use to define planes and axes. The problem I have is that nearly all the geometry I create (lines and points in 2D sketches) is not "selectable" when I try to create planes or axes. I cannot even put a work points "on top of" my sketch points. Why are my sketches not usable in the assembly space? Since the components in my model are just two extruded rings I don't have any linear edges I can select to make this work/ define planes.

I create a cylinder and i want to rotate it by longitudinal axis. i click 'components', select the cylinder and after i click 'position' to select the axis that axis system appears in the right side of the cylinder not in the middle. If i continue whit this settings the cylinder will rotate by a circle not by his longitudinal axis. How can i move that axis sistem in the middle of the cylinder? I can drag it but can't place it exactly in the middle.

1 - How to I remove the bottom label on the vertical axis (label 25.00 on the image below).
2 - How can I get only the start and end labels offset away from the line?
3 - Can I change the size of this title (SCALE 1:200) to be different from the CHAINAGE 10.00m title?
4 - My band sets are labeling grade breaks every 2m. Why does my grade breaks show at 2.24m/5.44m etc I would expect this to be 2/4/6/8/10/12/14m or is there a way I can change this so that they only label to major grade changes (i.e. the bottom of slopes).

Jul 26, 2012I have the bottom axis selected and trying to change my minor tick interval from 5' to 2.5' on the grid in the Horizontal Axes tab, but each time I type in 2.5' my minor horizontal tick intervals disappear. The lowest I can set my interval is to 3.5'. What is causing the interval to disappear? The major tick interval is set to 50' in the Horizontal Axes tab and my Major tick interval is 20' in the Vertical Axes tab with 2.5' for the minor. My Display settings have everything unfrozen and turned on.

Nov 16, 2011I am trying to create a light fixture with a head that can rotate in two axis so that the light can aim up or down and left or right.
I have been unable to create a light fixture that can rotate up and down as shown in the Revit help files.
Here is a resume of my two attempts at creating this and the reasons why they failed:
Embedded family solution: The embedded family will not rotate vertically even as a face based fixture hosted on a line reference. If you rotate the line reference in the horizontal axis, the hosted embedded fixture ignores the rotation and does not follow.
Unique family solution: The light source will not move even if it is locked to a reference line, it evokes an error.
AutoCAD Inventor :: Create Work Axis Where Work Plane Intersects Curved Surface?
Sep 9, 2013I keep running into a situation where I would like to be able to create an edge or a work axis at the intersection of a work plane and the surface of the part. I figured out a work around if the surface is flat, but I haven't figured out a work around for a curved surface.
How do I create work axis where work plane intersects curved surface?
Or put another way: How do I project intersection of work plane and curved surface onto the work plane in a 2D sketch?
I need to be able to draw a 2D sketch on the work plane, but get a perfectly matching projected line onto the work plane, from the curved surface, at the intersection of the curved surface and the work plane.
The attached jpg shows the intersection in question. I circled it.

Jul 20, 2012I've just recieved a new pc with Win7 64bit (no admin access) and AIS 2008 SP3.
When I go to Projects>New, the only option is new Single user Project. How can I enable the other project types or what can cause them not to show up?
AutoCAD Inventor :: 2012 - Cannot Create Project Folder
Feb 3, 2012Having issues on a laptop with Inventor 2012. Inventor will let the user create a new project folder on the C drive but not on their personal network drive. The user does have all needed permissions to use their network space, but Inventor is not allowing a project folder to be created on on the networked drive.
We have desktops on which project folders can be successfully created on the network drive. Only the laptop seems to be affected by the issue.
Am I missing a simple check box somewhere in Inventor?
