I go back and forth between older drawings in 2009 a lot while my current drawings are in Civil 3d 2012. Is there a way to copy linework from a Civil 3D drawing into my 2009 drawing easily. I used to be able to copy and paste between drawings but that doesn't work between these versions. Right now I have to wblock out the linework and open that new drawing and save as 2004 then import it into the old drawing.
View 1 RepliesOnes every three years we have an upgrade of Inventor. In a few months we have an upgrade from Inventor Proffessionel 2009 to Inventor Prof. 2012. Since we often use special materials in our design process we also create/add the new material in the material database. So here's the question; is it possible to copy the material database (special mades) from Inv Pro 2009 to Inv Pro 2012? It would save us a lot of work!
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am the only one using C3D 2012 in our office and the other users are complaining that they cannot insert blocks or paste clipboard content into drawings that I have saved from C3D 2012. This is true whether I use "C3D as AutoCAD" or the full C3D functionality. I understand that the newer C3D objects are not compatible with the older version but to my knowledge there are no C3D objects included in the drawings in question.
C3D 2009 users can wblock the drawing contents from the Model tab and each Layout tab, and reassemble those parts. Then they are able to insert blocks and paste content again. It is a very inconvenient solution and we only use it when the situation is critical. It also breaks sheet view linkage to our Sheet Sets when we do the wblock fix.
I've asked the others to try using Design Center or Windows paste (CTRL+V) and see if that works the next time they encounter the problem. I don't have C3D 2009 installed or I would have tested these ideas already. The others will not install C3D 2012 and so far the owner's will not force them to.
I am having several problems with my xrefs. My two big problems are xrefs bringing in way more information than I want, and they are duplicating if they are selected, even when I have the xref layers locked.
My set up is this:
I have a plan file, a grid line file, an elevation file, and a section file.
I want all files to be referenced to each other. However, I do not want duplicates of any xref. For instance, in my section drawing, I will reference my plan file which consequently brings in any file that is referenced in the plan file. I know that I will get the circular reference warning and that I can click continue. However, is there any way I can just get "1 degree of nesting"?
Second, I cannot figure out how to lock my xrefs to prevent them from constantly being selected. My problem is that in my live drawing information, if I select everything within my window and an xref is in that window, it will be copied. I don't ever want to duplicate my xrefs, but I can't find a way to lock them (even when locking xref layers).
A dwg obtained and developed from autocad 2009 was opened with autocad LT 2012 but could not display on the LAYOUT, although it does show on the MODEL.
I have tried to SAVE AS using the 2012 Autocad LT, but the drawing still wont display on the LAYOUT.
I have a user who will be moving to a new Windows 7 computer, for which I have installed AutoCad Civil 3D 2012. They would like it so that all of their settings and preferences are copied over from their current version of AutoCad Civili 3D 2008. Currently the user has windows XP professional.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to swap one type of inlet for another. I can swap the type-13 to a type-R but when I try to swap it for a double type-13 it reverts to the single type-13. This is happening with a 7' manhole as well. I can swap a 6' for a 4' or an 8' but it will not swap to a 7', it reverts to a 6'. Is there something in the catalog for this that preventing the swap?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI work with a national company that creates criteria drawings for new projects. They recently changed to the 2012 version but they save it down to 2007. There has not been an issue with opening files with my 2009 version until recently. All of the computers in our office are unable to open these new files, although they claim nothing has changed. My CAD will pop up a fatal error and shut down whenever I attempt to open the new files. I downloaded the 2013 trial version and saved the file down to the older version, but that does not work either. Newer versions do not seem to be affected by the files, just my 2009 version. I tried creating a new file in 2013 and saved down to 2007 format. When I try to open it 2009 there is no issue. besides purchasing a new version of AutoCAD?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe've just started using ACA 2012 and have noticed when importing files created in ACA 2009 that structural members do not display properly. We use the structural column or beam to represent a rainwater or soil pipe and are expecting to see a cut through at the cut plane and nothing else however we are getting a couple of lines that represent the crank in the pipe and I cannot turn them off. I'm sure that a setting has been introduced somewhere however after two weeks of looking I am still in the dark.

I know that it is a localized problem as a co-worker has been in the same drawing and done grading work without any problems. The error has occurred in multiple drawings.

You can copy both the surface and the original (in this case contour polylines) data or only the surface. In both cases paste operation results into a copy of both data and surface.
Ok, But when paste and rebuild, the distance from original base point and destination point is applied in turn to the surface itself. Maybe it is a BUG ?

We are running Win7pro6d bit quad core machines with 6gb ram, ATI FirePro V4800 (FireGL), Intel Xeon ES640 (2.67 ghz). AutoCAD Civil 3D(SP2) and all hotfixes installed.
This problem just started one week ago and It started with the cursor jumping all over the place when crossing objects. However; we now have very sluggish command line entry, 2 - 3 seconds after typing till it shows up, and cursors freezing when pressing the shift key for any reason.

2. In my description keys I use "rr" for rail road and "rrisg" for railroad signal (no * in code), linework comes in for both even though I only have it set up for "rr". I thought without the * in code this would not happen, but still does.
3. Finally, I use the "Survey Point Properties" window to make edits to points. All seems great, but when I got back into my drawing all my work was gone? Do I need to update the database some how with the changes? I was under the assumption that by doing it the way I do the changes are saved to the database. Is it better to do the edit on the Survey Tab by right clicking on the import event and selecting "Edit Points"?

I would like to bring in some of our linework into WS so it can be viewed on an iPad or smartphone with the GPS location referenced to the linework. Our dwg files projection is set for the NAD83 California Coordinate System, Zone 6, US survey feet.
Does the line work need to be projected before uploading to WS to use the GPS correctly? I understand there is also a units issue...but for some reason the location is never where it should be.
For some reason when I place new text or line work in a file it is fine, but when I save the drawing, close it and re-open it all of the text and line work found in model space goes gray. Yet if I place new text and use the match property command on text placed previously, that is now gray, and use it on new text, the new text recieves the attributes of what the previously placed text has minus the appearance of being gray. In my drawing I am using a shape file and a data connect image through planning and analysis.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSince I'm so darn clever I decided I could "save as" a 2009C3d-32bit drawing to 2011C3D-64bit. This drawing was working just peachy for a while. There are no data links. The drawing contained 2009 surface and point groups. I imported some Pipe styles created in 2011. Created 800' of profile,and my pipe network. When I was closing the drawing I got a lot of errors wanting to know if I wanted to save changes to VBA-pipes. Seemed like a good idea at the time so I said Yes. This morning I opened the drawing and it's there but the surface from 2009 no longer has it's Definition data. The point group is gone, breaklines are gone. I needed to remove one lousy bad point out of my surface. The points in the drawing now have three copies and one has the elevation in the point description and you can't fix it. The 3 labels are all tied together and if you erase one they all disappear. I am going to wing it from here and get this puppy out of the office with a little old fashioned autocad. This is my question. Should I have just started a new drawing in 2011, clipped all my old line work and text from the 2009, imported the points and rebuilt my surface? Did I do something wrong and there was some way I should have been able to make this work? I was running 2009 and 2011 on my computer but had to remove 2009 last week. It no longer like livng with his better looking brother "2011" and I had to put him out. I have numerous small projects created in 2009 so this will happen again.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe've recently upgraded a large project from Civil 3D 2012 to Civil 3D 2014 and for the most part things have migrated well.
On this project as well as others that have been migrated, I've been noticing this and similar messages re: modified in a previous version when the dref's synchronize:
"FG-STREET A was modified in a previous version of the software. Changes in the current were overwritten when the data reference was synchronized."
The steps we used for converting this project in order are:
Set Data shortcuts working folder.
Migrate Survey Database.
Open/save base drawing containing survey & EG surface.
Open/save all C3d source dwgs before opening any plan sheets.
Open/save all C3d plan sheets.
Because of the warning message I thought I'd try the "Migrating Data Shortcuts" following the instructions.
Use the stand-alone Data Shortcuts Editor to save one or more data shortcuts to a specified folder. If the shortcuts were created with a previous version of AutoCAD Civil 3D, they will be updated to the current format in this process.
When following the steps in the Data Shortcuts Editor, when I get to step 5, select the folder & choose Saveas, I see the following message that they will be saved in 2009 format?
Isn't that a downgrade? How these modified in a previous version messages?
I'm still trying to figure out if they are a benign message or if they are something I should be concerned with. 95% of the shortcuts on the project sync normally & seem to work fine other than an occasional disappearing profile in the sheet profiles.

In AutoCAD LT 2013, The typed copy is centered with the line and follows at the end of the line. When the leader runs left, the typed copy runs to the left like it should until a left click or Enter is clicked. The Click sends the leader line to the left thru the typed copy and a bit below center. Sometimes the copy is above the line. Justification will change this until Enter is clicked or a left click is clicked and the copy returns to the line thru it layout.
