I'm in a situation where I need to share my drawings with another guy in a different office an hour away. I'm using 2010 and he's on 2009. What is the best way for each of us to send drawings back and forth, and still be able to tweak each others work?

I just recently had to install 2009 from map 2008. When I open drawings last worked on and saved in 2008 and open them in civil 3d 2009, I get drawings that freeze up upon opening. Some will eventually open, showing errors. Others will never open and just freeze up.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI go back and forth between older drawings in 2009 a lot while my current drawings are in Civil 3d 2012. Is there a way to copy linework from a Civil 3D drawing into my 2009 drawing easily. I used to be able to copy and paste between drawings but that doesn't work between these versions. Right now I have to wblock out the linework and open that new drawing and save as 2004 then import it into the old drawing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSince I'm so darn clever I decided I could "save as" a 2009C3d-32bit drawing to 2011C3D-64bit. This drawing was working just peachy for a while. There are no data links. The drawing contained 2009 surface and point groups. I imported some Pipe styles created in 2011. Created 800' of profile,and my pipe network. When I was closing the drawing I got a lot of errors wanting to know if I wanted to save changes to VBA-pipes. Seemed like a good idea at the time so I said Yes. This morning I opened the drawing and it's there but the surface from 2009 no longer has it's Definition data. The point group is gone, breaklines are gone. I needed to remove one lousy bad point out of my surface. The points in the drawing now have three copies and one has the elevation in the point description and you can't fix it. The 3 labels are all tied together and if you erase one they all disappear. I am going to wing it from here and get this puppy out of the office with a little old fashioned autocad. This is my question. Should I have just started a new drawing in 2011, clipped all my old line work and text from the 2009, imported the points and rebuilt my surface? Did I do something wrong and there was some way I should have been able to make this work? I was running 2009 and 2011 on my computer but had to remove 2009 last week. It no longer like livng with his better looking brother "2011" and I had to put him out. I have numerous small projects created in 2009 so this will happen again.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy company has recently bought out a smaller firm. IT has setup everything through our "pipeline" so that there is a direct connection to both offices. The servers are all mapped pretty much identically and we are beginning to work on the same projects between the offices. However, this is putting a huge lag on the "pipeline" slowing down all the data going back and forth. Now they would like the Technicians to refrain from opening drawing files over the network.
So, I am wondering if the CLOUD is an option to handle this for our shared projects? Or Vault?

I am the only one using C3D 2012 in our office and the other users are complaining that they cannot insert blocks or paste clipboard content into drawings that I have saved from C3D 2012. This is true whether I use "C3D as AutoCAD" or the full C3D functionality. I understand that the newer C3D objects are not compatible with the older version but to my knowledge there are no C3D objects included in the drawings in question.
C3D 2009 users can wblock the drawing contents from the Model tab and each Layout tab, and reassemble those parts. Then they are able to insert blocks and paste content again. It is a very inconvenient solution and we only use it when the situation is critical. It also breaks sheet view linkage to our Sheet Sets when we do the wblock fix.
I've asked the others to try using Design Center or Windows paste (CTRL+V) and see if that works the next time they encounter the problem. I don't have C3D 2009 installed or I would have tested these ideas already. The others will not install C3D 2012 and so far the owner's will not force them to.
We've recently upgraded a large project from Civil 3D 2012 to Civil 3D 2014 and for the most part things have migrated well.
On this project as well as others that have been migrated, I've been noticing this and similar messages re: modified in a previous version when the dref's synchronize:
"FG-STREET A was modified in a previous version of the software. Changes in the current were overwritten when the data reference was synchronized."
The steps we used for converting this project in order are:
Set Data shortcuts working folder.
Migrate Survey Database.
Open/save base drawing containing survey & EG surface.
Open/save all C3d source dwgs before opening any plan sheets.
Open/save all C3d plan sheets.
Because of the warning message I thought I'd try the "Migrating Data Shortcuts" following the instructions.
Use the stand-alone Data Shortcuts Editor to save one or more data shortcuts to a specified folder. If the shortcuts were created with a previous version of AutoCAD Civil 3D, they will be updated to the current format in this process.
When following the steps in the Data Shortcuts Editor, when I get to step 5, select the folder & choose Saveas, I see the following message that they will be saved in 2009 format?
Isn't that a downgrade? How these modified in a previous version messages?
I'm still trying to figure out if they are a benign message or if they are something I should be concerned with. 95% of the shortcuts on the project sync normally & seem to work fine other than an occasional disappearing profile in the sheet profiles.

I have tried to SAVE AS using the 2012 Autocad LT, but the drawing still wont display on the LAYOUT.
My company is useing LDD2009, as well as map. when we make notations in our plans we use a block that is basicly a square with an attribute inside to represent a number, the nuber then corresponds to the same number and a description in a table.
Now, I have been asked to create / recreate (a)the block that would rotate per viewport, also; we are not usin dynamic leaders.
is there a way to either continue with the block or create a dynamic leader that would rotate per viewport, even in other drawings that have xrefs attached like Plan & Profile sheets that are separate drawings.
I'm not sure how autocad would handle the rotating as well as the location of the block and still have the leader point in the same place.
Try starting Autocad LT 2009 and get Error Message: "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000005). Click OK to close the application."

I have quite a few drawings in AutoCAD 2009 that have images attached. some of them print just fine and some wont print the image.
I inserted the image by the following: EditPaste SpecialPicture (Metafile) and they are tif files.
I have AutoCAD 2009. When I print a PDF, all the different layers come out looking the same. In other words, in my drawing I have layers that are say green and other layers that are cyan. Supposedly, the green layer is darker and thicker than the cyan layer. But when I print the PDF, all the layers come out with the same thickness and darkness.
But if I plot the DWG file, the lines show up the way they should be. The problem only happens when plotting PDF's.

View 5 Replies View Relatedmy OS is Vista 64bit. i was using ACA2008 SP1 without any problems about a year.i decided to uninstall it and start using ACA2009.i have uninstalled ACA2008, 3dsmax2008 and other autodesk apps and removed some folders 'autodesk' and 'autodesk shared' from vista system folders.i also delete 'autodesk' from registry (LocalMachine/Software & CurrentUser/Software).then i installed ACA2009 64bit without any problems. after install i start it and there wasn't any problems (but i do not use any AEC objects, so i don't know if they was working).next i installed 3dsmax2009 & sp1 for it. max worked OK.then i installed sp1 for ACA2009. instalation was OK... but when i start working on a project i realised that AEC objects (wall,door, etc.) dont work at all ACA2009 starts OK without any warning or something...it loads at startup AECarchBase (and other AEC related stuff) but when you are trying to use any of wall,door,window it does do nothing... for example when you select wall from tools pallete it shows command 'WallAdd' in command line and then wall command ends without any warning or something...it also doesn't work from command line or menu the strange thing is when i uninstall ACA2009 and install ACA2008 again problem was also now in ACA2008 !!!

It works fine in other programs.
Also when I hit F7 in a sketch Inventor does not show the section of the part to my sketch plane.
Also, my memory bar indicator does not work, it just stays all grey.
Trying to do some bolt pattern center lines. Been doing them for years and can do them old school way. But was wondering if there is a better ways. If you put a circle from the center of the bolt circle to the center of the bolts and change it to center the hashes never line up. So I always do small center line sections on each bolt hole. Then array it around to cover the entire bolt circle. But that gets time consuming. I am now doing a lot of projects with bolt circles and wondered if there was a better method.

Test Adobe.pdf was created using "Adobe PDF" driver, paper size A3. Looks good except for the exta lines running through columns 1 and 9.
Test Dwg to.pdf was created using "dwg to PDF.pc3" driver, paper size ISO A3 (420x297mm). The excel portion looks good but it has cut off the border all around.
Border size is 410mm x 287mm.
Using Acrobat 9 Pro and MS Office 2010.
I'm having a problem with a model that is extremely complex. It contains a perforated grille. I've reduced viewres to 100 and turned off those layers along with freezing them and it I still can't adjust my view, perspective or visual style without it locking up. Is there any way to get the model to function? Would making the grille a block or xref work?

I need the blocks I create to be available to every drawing I create, but somehow, I'm doing something wrong because I can only access them from the drawing I created them in.
I have a problem with a drawing where I'm working with a certain number of blocks.
The other day Autocad crashed repetedlty when entering the block editor. I double-click on the block, the block definition dialogue box opens and the program freezes - I get the error message "Autocad LT has stopped running..."
I tried reopening the drawing, exploded the block and recreated it - problem solved.
Now this is happening again, except when try to explode and recreate the block using the BLOCK command, when the block definition dialogue box open - the program also freezes.
This only happens when I try to edit one particular block in the drawing.
What is the risk Migrating Inventor 2009 files to Inventor 2012?
Do i have to migrate the Inventor 2009 files to 2010 and up to 2012?
