AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Volume Calculations For Concrete Piles
Dec 9, 2013I have been asked to do volume calculations using Civil 3D for some concrete piles for a oil/survey company. I have done volume calculations for site and land development projects but nothing to do with concrete piles before. It also appears I am the only person with any Civil 3D back ground in the office. I did mention my experience with Civil 3D was limited but I was trying to expand it by looking for Civil 3D jobs and working through the 2012 Mastering AutoCAD Civil 3D book.
I am assuming doing volume calculations for concrete piles is quite different from doing volume calculations for grading plans. The company has been primary using AutoCAD Maps and doesn't have much set up for AutoCAD Civil 3D yet.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Concrete Pattern In Parcel Hatch?
Nov 25, 2013I'd like to hatch a parcel with the concrete pattern but it shows broken. I know I could relocate the origin for a polygon hatch but is there a fix for using in a parcel?

Mar 27, 2012create a usable template file that ATTEXT can use to extract attribute information from blocks. The goal is to construct a small building within ACAD (before the first piece of material is cut or even bought) exclusively from blocks with attribute information for each block and then to extract what will end up being a bill of materials and cost sheet. (in lieu of my normal approach of hand sketching, trial and error cutting and fitting as I go along).
I have read the manual 4 - 5 times, followed instructions exactly (or at least think I have), reviewed postings here (and then trying different way). Nothing works. I have even created a single block in single file with one attribute to simplify it. Anyway, same error comes back every time. The current, extremely simplified, PracticeExtractAttributes.txt (template file) file reads:
BL:MYBLOCK C01500
STICKNAME C01500
with MYBLOCK being the block name and STICKNAME being the tag name for one attribute from the drawing. Same error.
Note: although I use ACAD very infrequently I have been using it since (if I recall correctly) 2.56 back in the 80s and currently use 2000.
PS the ATTEXT will create a DXX file with the information in it (hence my conclusion the problem is in the template file), but that would require me to spend hours and hours writing code to parse the DXX file (once I had the format figured out) to get the info out.

Jul 24, 2013What are the optimal hardware specification requirements for Adobe Photoshop CS6?".Unfortunately, I am not satisfied with the specs specified on the website, as I believe they are far lesser than the specs needed to run the program at its full potential. This belief comes from my experience with the product Adobe Photoshop CS2 that I currently run on my computer. In effect, Ps CS2 cannot fully run without inducing time lags on my computer (i.e. when using 500 pix diameter smudge tool/ using liquify gallery), even though my specs are already higher than those specified for CS6 (mine are: Intel Core 2 Duo 6300 1.86 GHz, 3 GB RAM). I can assure you that I get those time lags even when almost in safe mode (only system main processes running) and that my computer is clean from any process/virus that could lower its performances.

Jan 17, 2013I have been trying to draw a precast concrete tank and have run into a problem. The tank walls are not constant thickness. At the bottom they are 3.5" thick and taper to 3" thick at the top. Also, the top dimensions of the tank are longer and wider than the bottom dimensions of the tank. My solution has been to draw the outside bottom as a rectangle and offset the rectangle by 3.5". Then repeat this for the top dimensions, set the top two rectangles at the correct elevation and loft them. Then, I press-pull the center out of the tank. This results in a quasi-correct representation of the outside tank but the wall thickness does not taper correctly and the walls are hollow.

However, when i need to adjust the height of, for example, a window, by stretching or pulling, none can have the hatched area lengthened or reduced. In ''quick properties", the associative is not applicable if i change it from N-->Y. I'm wondering if i am doing any step wrong.

Nov 28, 2012Recently upgraded to Civil 3D 2013 and drawings opened up fine. Now today any drawing that opens shows the plan view as last saved but then after loading takes the drawing and shifts it into a 3d view similar to a crossection. Is there a setting somewhere that has been changed? I noticed after a windows 7 update was preformed.

Oct 25, 2012I've had a request from on of our users to replicate something that has been done for years in 2D CAD. They want a marker to show changes in floor levels that look something like this:-
The annotation needs to be able to read the slab on either side of the step marker and hopefully if possible the difference be represented as text. The datum levels are secondary and it is really the depth of the step that seems to be more important. I do however want to avoid these being just dumb text as if/when the design evolves someone will forget to modify the text.
Here is an example of a few showing two steps in the slab and the results we would want.
I have tried loading/nesting a standard spot level in thinking if I had two in an annotation that this might work, but I was unable to even place a spot marker within the family which makes some sense I suppose.
Is this even technically possible...? I realize the origin usually determines what hosts the family and how, but I guess we are looking for something with a double origin, which is why I think this may not be possible...?

Apr 23, 2012I use all the time L shape and U shape winder stairs in combination with the Monolithic Type.
We use to concrete the monolithic part of the stairs and then dress the stairs with treads and risers. The new tool looks that working very nice.
So OK I draw the U shape winder stair and of course i want to construct the stairs.
I want to prepape a detail plan view with dimensions only for the Monolithic Part (Concrete) of the stair but i can't find a way to dispay only the monolithic part without Treads and Riser.It is possible in 3d view but no in plan view. The news tool that calculate winder stairs is "half job done" if i can't print with dimension the concrete part of the winder stairs.

If I build a wall using mass then I can make it into a pattern that I want but then I can't paint it so that's it's clear or see through. On the other hand if I build a wall just using the walls then I can't find an option for the block pattern.
