I want to know that whether Canal Design is possible in civil 3D or not.
If there is any software that deals in designing of Canals for distributing water to irrigated lands.
I have a Civil3D file with Drawing Settings = WGS84 UTM-Zone44 North Map3D coordinate system = WGS84 UTM-Zone44 North a USGS DEM from HYDROsheds data set (tile = N40E80) also note this DEM is a folder of multiple ADF files when using FDO provider the DEM comes in just fine but it lands in the wrong location thousands of kilometers away.
When I load the same shape files into ArcMAP10 with spatial reference as WGS84 UTM-Zone44 North everything lines up perfectly.
The header prj.adf file is this:
PROJECTION GEOGRAPHIC
UNITS DD
DATUM WGS84
PARAMETERS
so how do I make it come into Map3D correctly?
Infrastructure Modeler is a handy tool for creating nice 3D models for presentation. But how can we distribute these models for stake holders to review? Sure we can create nice video presentations but we want them to be able to nagivate the model freely. Is there any way to get the models into 3D PDF format?
The same issue arises with Civil 3D. Apparently it does not support output to 3D PDF. Do we have to purchase a driver for this?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am making a design for a centrifugal water pump, the rotor was no problem, but I'm having some trouble designing the top case. I thought it would be easiest to create the channel for the water outlet using a loft feature.
I attached the ipt. there are two sketches, and I need a loft from the small to the large one, all the way around the circle. when you see it you'll probably understand what the result should be, but, no matter what I try, either I get an oddly shaped loft, or an error.
How to draw l section and x sections of canal. I am using autocad 2008.

We work on landfills that need stormwater control terraces and letdowns. It occurred to me to ask if there is some way to modify the water drop trace function (which examines a surface and determines the 90 degree to contours path) so that you could specify an angle to the contours of your choice. This would basically automate finding the flow path of a diversion berm. Any method of laying out, for instance a 2% flowline along a 3to1 slope or tougher yet, a face with variable slopes.

How do we show the culverts on our model? Do I create a short pipe network for each culvert crossing? And also, how do I daylight to the outside of the culvert as the corridor crosses over it?

Every time I go to use the water drop tool on a surface I have to change from the default layer 0 to my 'water drop' layer. I'm sure there must be a way to change it but I couldn't seem to find it in the surface styles...
View 3 Replies View RelatedI finally have my first and only .Net version of a former VBA function running and I want to make it available to other users, but security is getting in the way. Copying the project even to a different location on the same local hard drive results in a security violation, let alone copying it to a network directory. I am using Visual Studio Express 2008 and cannot find the ClickOnce nor any Publish function written up on MDSN - do those tools only apply to exe style projects?
I did read about a work around of adding an allow remote flag to the AutoCAD configuration file, but that appears to be a massive security hole as it could (I think?) allow *any* malicious dll file to run.
Is distributing / publishing a dll project impossible with Express?

Original intent was for daylight to have 4:1 slope and keep within the R/W. This causes some areas to hold water as shown circled in the image. I know I should be able to give it parameters or targets to avoid this.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI’m using 2011, due to printing issues in 2013. My question relates to determining how runoff gets diverted, or spreads out, after leaving a well defined channel.
I have a street intersection scenario. It’s a “Y” situation in which the main trunk of the “Y” is curbed and contains all the water for the three storms I’m studying. Runoff flows towards the two streets that branch off. I need to know what percentage of runoff water splits during the 2-, 10-, and 100-year storms from the main (curbed) roadway to the other two streets - one curbed, one uncurbed.
I assume that velocity, runoff volume, storm intensity, street cross sections, slopes, and other variables play a big role in how the water diverts, but I’m not sure how to set up this scenario in SSA. Do I somehow use a weir? Do I use an open channel, or user-defined channel? I have a subbasin area defined with my concentration point at the end of my main curbed street before the water splits off. I’m not sure where to go from here when it comes to inserting links, weirs, channels, etc.
how I can set this up? I’m not even sure it’s possible to have the software provide this type of calculation.

Surface does exist as we can see the triangles/contours or whatever we choose to display. When we run the Water drop command, we are getting a message saying that the point is outside of the surface. We have selected a valid surface by both picking it visually and selecting it from the dialogue. All layers are on and thawed and we are picking well inside of the surface.
Why it would be telling us that the point is outside the surface?
I have a pic that has a really pretty view of a bridge over a little stream. Only problem is the water is covered with slimy green algee.

What I'm trying to do is to have these acrhed lines (as per the top three curves you can see below) go around a circle, surrounding it (don't know if i explain myself good...). I was using both blend tool and rotate tool and it doesnt work for me the way I want it. All the time its sort of upside down at the bottom of the cirle and totaly twisted on the left and right...

I position the far left text layer where it needs to be, then the far right text layer where it needs to be, link all the text layers and hit 'Distribute Horizontal Centers' to have them fill out the space between evenly.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI tried to create a rendering utilizing the IES file from a light fixture manufacturer and I can't seem to get the photometric web to distribute along the full length of the bulb. It looks like the light is being distributed from a point in the middle of the light fixture although it is a 4' T8 fluorescent bulb. In the light family Light Source Definition, I set the Emit from shape to be a line and set the Light Distribution to be Photometric Web and set the Emit From Line Length parameter to be 4'. The distribution of the light looks correct, but just only from a point.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've used the blend tool to create 10 circles going from smallest at the top > largest at the bottom. When I Align > Distribute evenly on the vertical axis - the circles aren't evenly spaced. I'm guessing ai is doing the math from the centerpoint? How can I get them distributed so that the space between each circle is the same. F- 10 px from the top of one circle to the bottom of the one above it.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI am looking into switching to AutoCad Civil 3D from MxRoads. Up to now I have been using Mx and have a large back catalogue of roads work all in MX formats, Input files, Genios etc.
Given that Mx is string based and Civil 3D appears to be section based, I'm wondering if when you import a genio created in Mx, is there a way to "link" a carriageway string to the master string, without having to recreate the alignment from scratch. If I needed to do a quick change to a vertical alignment or a road widening I want to be able to do without reinventing the wheel! I need to ensure that the program can recognize the relevant way string that matches the Master string.

View 5 Replies View RelatedHow to do a stream restoration design with corridor modeling. for the low flow channel pool, i will have alternate riffle and pool sections. my understanding is riffle for X feet, then pool for Y feet, then repeat, per the riffle to pool spacing requirements.
my question is regarding the left pool and right pool sections. please see attached images. for left pool, width A > width B and vice versa. A+B is the same for both left and right pools. left pool assembly has to be applied when the centerline alignment is curving outward to the left side, right pool when curving outward to the right side.
is there a way to specify in corridor modeling when an assembly is to be applied based on the direction of the centerline alignment curves?
The following video show a dam in China using Infraworks and Civil 3D URL....
During the first 25 secs or so, there is a sequence showing a disposal area created in Civil 3D but with a texture that isn't the draped aerial image (and there are further examples of this elsewhere).
How does one get surfaces etc that aren't derived from a corridor to show in this way in Infraworks. There doesn't seem to be any workflow in the available information to address non linear projects.
Additionally the 3ds Max workflows seem to be geared up for linear projects e.g. roads only - any tips for non linear projects e.g. earthworks platforms?
