AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Integrating Infraworks / 3Ds Max Design
Jul 23, 2013
The following video show a dam in China using Infraworks and Civil 3D URL....
During the first 25 secs or so, there is a sequence showing a disposal area created in Civil 3D but with a texture that isn't the draped aerial image (and there are further examples of this elsewhere).
How does one get surfaces etc that aren't derived from a corridor to show in this way in Infraworks. There doesn't seem to be any workflow in the available information to address non linear projects.
Additionally the 3ds Max workflows seem to be geared up for linear projects e.g. roads only - any tips for non linear projects e.g. earthworks platforms?
I want to make a nice interface (menu) for my website in photoshop. Once I create the image, how do I make it "editable" in html? Is there a way to achieve this with slices? I'm sorry if you don't really understand what I am saying...let me know if I need to be more specific.
I am using a pre-built virtual newsroom set. The artist has setup the scene using final render and in the environment there is 'beach_probe.hdr' I have tracked the talent on greenscreen (w/alpha) and want to import the talent with the tracking into the set. What is the preferred method for placing the talent in 3d space for proper placement and using the tracking data?
One project I use Photoshop CS4 for is painting aircraft used with Microsoft Flight Simulator X (FSX). Each aircraft is downloaded as a "Paint Kit".I paint and add layers onto the kit until the aircraft resembles the design I chose. The paint kit includes a background, base parts usually in white, and an assortment of layers adding physical wear, shading, lines and rivets you see on actual aircraft.
Additionally, the kit includes an RGB Alpha Channel and Specular Maps. In this application, the Alpha channel provides the reflectivity or gloss on the aircraft paint. The Specular maps provide a sheen much like the subtle reflections you see from a metal flake paint job when the sun hits it directly.
Once all painting and manipulation is complete, the kit is "cut" into specific sizes. Once the kit is cut, each section is saved as a DDS file using NVidia tools. The resulting DDS files are placed into folders within the main FSX program folder. The FSX program "assembles" the sections and processes the different layers and channels resulting in aircraft that are incredibly detailed and realistic.
My problem is I don't know how to properly integrate and preserve the Alpha channel during the "Flatten Image" and when saving the file as a dds file. As you can see in the "Layers" section in the picture, the Alpha channel is already made. I just don't know what to do with it to preserve it and ensure the reflectivity it provides is visible in the final product.
what I need to know isn't what the alpha does, but how to properly integrate it into the final product. I've searched for this info for the last several days, but I've had no luck in finding specific information on how to do that. URL....
I am looking into switching to AutoCad Civil 3D from MxRoads. Up to now I have been using Mx and have a large back catalogue of roads work all in MX formats, Input files, Genios etc.
Given that Mx is string based and Civil 3D appears to be section based, I'm wondering if when you import a genio created in Mx, is there a way to "link" a carriageway string to the master string, without having to recreate the alignment from scratch. If I needed to do a quick change to a vertical alignment or a road widening I want to be able to do without reinventing the wheel! I need to ensure that the program can recognize the relevant way string that matches the Master string.
I need to design a project but ı cant..ı have two profiles in use for one alignment..ı want to use left profile for left side, use right profile for right side.and ı want to draw cross section only one..how can ı design like this project..
I'm not getting the design levels of assembly, just major offset and elevation, how can i get all design levels from where my assembly is changing and where it is matching to the existing surface, is there any band problem or anything else, im sending the view that how i'm getting my cross section and also i want to know that how can i control text size because it is too big for sections.
How to do a stream restoration design with corridor modeling. for the low flow channel pool, i will have alternate riffle and pool sections. my understanding is riffle for X feet, then pool for Y feet, then repeat, per the riffle to pool spacing requirements.
my question is regarding the left pool and right pool sections. please see attached images. for left pool, width A > width B and vice versa. A+B is the same for both left and right pools. left pool assembly has to be applied when the centerline alignment is curving outward to the left side, right pool when curving outward to the right side.
is there a way to specify in corridor modeling when an assembly is to be applied based on the direction of the centerline alignment curves?
Conceptual design process for a new subdivision with say 100+ lots, and 5-6 roads within it.
What I'd like is to learn a workflow that lets me adjust the alignments/profile with a minimum amount of effort to re-layout 100+ lots, and which lets us explore design options more interactively. Once we pin down a few alignment options, I would create a simple corridor with multiple baselines to develop the grading concept.
One thing that irks me so far is that the Create ROW command is nice, but it's not dynamic to the alignments. How do you handle cul-de-sacs on this process?
I am pretty new to subassemblies and corridors and I think I have the jist of it but I have a few questions.
How do I lower stations of my corridor? I am making a grassed waterway and my corridor seems just ride on the surface. I get to the parameter editor but the elevation design value is grayed out, so I can't change it.
I'm trying to label the beginning and end points of a design profile (yellow line in the attached image) using the Horizontal Geometry Station Label tool. For some reason they will not show up.
We're moving to Trimble Access on the survey data collectors which means that we have to export design data using Trimble Link and then use Trimble Business Center to examine the data and do any editing before sending it to the field.
So far I've found that alignments, profiles and surfaces seem to transfer OK. Corridors however have been an almost total failure.

Working in Civil 3D 2014 SP1 I have a Design Profile that I have created by setting the Existing Profile to 'Static' and Creating a Copy of the Existing Profile... This leaves me with a Design Profile that follows the Existing Surface. The problem begins when I delete a section of PVI's and introduce new 'Design PVI's'... I have found that at apparently random times my Design PVI's have been lost and replaced with the original copied PVI's that follow the Existing Surface. This has occurred more than once and I can't find any reason as to why this may be occurring...?
I cannot get the DC Online tab to show on the Design Center. I have enabled it through the CAD manager Control Utility. I have shut down CAD and restarted it and still no tab.
i have a site which has a mound in the middle, and quite a few drainage swales running downhill from it, radiating in all directions. i want to calculate a rough estimate of how much fill is required to fill in all those swales (roughly). picture that the existing ridgeline "noses" will be left as is, and the valleys in between are the ones that I want to fill in. the project boundary (toe of slope) is the elevation that I want to hold.
i tried grading tools, and corridors as well, but could not come up with a good way to do this. what I ended up doing is i laid out some feature lines that follow the existing ridgelines down the hill (the banks of the swales), then created a feature line of the project boundary (draped on EG), and a feature line at the top of the mound as the highest elevation, created a TIN from those feature lines so that it triangulates across the swales, and then ran a volume comparison. not the best way i know, but could not think of a better way at that moment.
A trick to make automatic a dimension line for the distance between the existing alignment of a road and the design alignment.
This dimension line I want to be in the cross sections. I make a project with a widening road and I have to show the difference between the old and the new alignment.
I have a problem when calculating the volume of a design plan, the slope of the land, the design had to be made so as not to slide trap. How it makes grading a trap,
Have a site plan and about to make a revision to building layout, storm, sanitary, parking layout. Have a project folder, with Drawings subfolder, and then subfolder for Model Files and Sheet Files. How do most go about archiving the original drawings without affecting shortcuts and xrefs.

I have created cogo points for field staking. I'd like to share them through the survey database. Can I add the points to the Survey Database without first having to export them to a file?
I've got a highway project for which I'm modeling the corridor but the design profiles given to me are for the right lane top edge (ETW) and not the centerline (crown). This is an undivided planer roadway with a typical 2% cross-slope. How can I use that profile for the right edge to run my corridor? I can't seem to get the corridor to use the super table that is attached to the centerline when I use an offset assembly. Is an offset assembly the right way to go with this design?
What I've done just to get going is to take that right edge design profile and draw it in my centerline profile view, then lower it 0.24' (which is my 2% normal cross-slope for a 12' lane) and then use that as a centerline profile and let my normal super assembly and table data control the corridor through the supers. So far that is working--but is there a better way to do this?
I wanted to public this design to Google Earth, but some how the model is flat wiith existing ground. I did choose "Drape entities on ground" and also tried "elevation relative to ground" it is sitll a flat model.
i can't drag a block from the design center into any drawing. i have to go into the design center right click on the block, click copy, then go back to my drawing and paste the block. this has just started happen, before i was able to drag and drop with no problem. there is no error message the only thing that happens when i try to drag a block from the design center is when i'm back in the drawing the cross hair has a circle.
how to create a label style for design center of road (simple tangent) in profile that will work between multiple profile views. I've used the 'Create Multiple Views' profile view wizard. I use a horizontal dimension style label for CL road (looks just like an autocad linear dimension). I'd like the label work across separate views i.e. stop at view end, pick back up at view start.
The label I currently use is simply a line component from tangent start dimension to tangent end dimension and the text component is anchored to the line midpoint. Label looks as intended for normal use. For some reason the line drops as if looking for the actual pvi at the right side when i use multiple views.
