Sep 11, 2013One project I use Photoshop CS4 for is painting aircraft used with Microsoft Flight Simulator X (FSX). Each aircraft is downloaded as a "Paint Kit".I paint and add layers onto the kit until the aircraft resembles the design I chose. The paint kit includes a background, base parts usually in white, and an assortment of layers adding physical wear, shading, lines and rivets you see on actual aircraft.

Additionally, the kit includes an RGB Alpha Channel and Specular Maps. In this application, the Alpha channel provides the reflectivity or gloss on the aircraft paint. The Specular maps provide a sheen much like the subtle reflections you see from a metal flake paint job when the sun hits it directly.

Once all painting and manipulation is complete, the kit is "cut" into specific sizes. Once the kit is cut, each section is saved as a DDS file using NVidia tools. The resulting DDS files are placed into folders within the main FSX program folder. The FSX program "assembles" the sections and processes the different layers and channels resulting in aircraft that are incredibly detailed and realistic.

My problem is I don't know how to properly integrate and preserve the Alpha channel during the "Flatten Image" and when saving the file as a dds file. As you can see in the "Layers" section in the picture, the Alpha channel is already made. I just don't know what to do with it to preserve it and ensure the reflectivity it provides is visible in the final product.

what I need to know isn't what the alpha does, but how to properly integrate it into the final product. I've searched for this info for the last several days, but I've had no luck in finding specific information on how to do that. URL....
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Integrating Infraworks / 3Ds Max Design
Jul 23, 2013The following video show a dam in China using Infraworks and Civil 3D URL....
During the first 25 secs or so, there is a sequence showing a disposal area created in Civil 3D but with a texture that isn't the draped aerial image (and there are further examples of this elsewhere).
How does one get surfaces etc that aren't derived from a corridor to show in this way in Infraworks. There doesn't seem to be any workflow in the available information to address non linear projects.
Additionally the 3ds Max workflows seem to be geared up for linear projects e.g. roads only - any tips for non linear projects e.g. earthworks platforms?

The artist has setup the scene using final render and in the environment there is 'beach_probe.hdr' I have tracked the talent on greenscreen (w/alpha) and want to import the talent with the tracking into the set. May 18, 2009has bridge cs4 a database? i mean i can tag photos and rating, photos in different folders and different hard disk well if i want to see all the photos rated 5 star , can i do it? with bridge cs3(it has not a dabase) i had to use the search tool or set the filter and browse the folders but this with cs3 overload the cpu because every time scan photos for the info well with bridge cs4 can i do it , has a database , or also cs4 has to scan every time all the photos? my last question is can i make a filter and save it , i mean use the same filter every time brigde cs4 start upfor example filter ->files jpg and raw files , save this filter (i tried to make a scipt ,but i was not able to do it)and every time bridge cs4 start up ,works with this filter?

May 21, 2013I just bought a new computer. I've seen some mention about incompatability issues. The last thing I want to do is start deleting everything on my new machine. It has Premire elements 10 on it. I read something about a caps database. I have renamed it but still get the same corrupt DB error. What can I do to install my CS4 and not delete other files on my new machine?

 I learned from Adobe that I could use the WinCS3clean script, which I downloaded and ran on my computer, using level 1.After this I tried installing the extended version of CS3 but got the message "Installation database corrupt" and I can't install CS3. Can anyone help me with this and let me know how to solve the problem? Nov 30, 2012Is it possible to have two machines, both running Photoshop Elements 11, share the same database file?The scenario I'm imagining is one where the images will be stored on a $fileserver and thereby accessible by either of my image-editing machines:

1. Dell Desktop PC (Win 7 Pro)
2. Apple MacBook Pro Laptop (OS X 10.7.5)

I want to be able to edit images from either machine, but I don't want to create two databases related to the images. I need both machines to use the same database of tags, etc. (Not simultaneously, obviously.)The file server will be one of the following (I haven't determined which one yet):

1. a second drive on the desktop PC
2. a third machine (FreeBSD, FreeNAS, Mac Mini, or a Linux box)
3. a NAS device (perhaps from Synology)

So, is this possible with Photoshop Elements? Does this bump me into some sort of server license scenario with Adobe? Is there a better way to do this at the home/consumer level, even if it means abandoning Elements for another product (or two products, working in conjunction) from Adobe? (I should mention that although it's a home scenario, we're talking about half a terabyte of images and growing.)

Dec 26, 2008I just got Adobe Photoshop CS3. I started installing it and during the installation, the power cord got pulled over and the PC turned off! I turned the damn thing again and found out that the setup was not running!
Here are a few things I noticed:
Photoshop is in the registry but won't uninstall because the setup won't run.
The setup is alright and there is no problem or any file missing.
I tried the setup from my friend's CD but it gives the same error of my setup:
Critical errors were found in setup
- undefined
- The installer database is invalid; please re-install the product from the original media.

Jun 7, 2009I've been using Photoshop Elements 5.0 for a few years now on my PC running Vista. Beginning just a few days ago (and unconnected to any updates of which I am aware), I started getting an error when I tried to delete or import files in the Organizer. The error says: ODBC data source [Microsoft] [ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Cannot open database "I". It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt. The photos are there - I can see them in Windows Photo Gallery. I can delete photos from there as well. Just not in Organizer. Wondered if anyone might be able to point me in a good direction for a fix?

Jun 8, 2012I am trying to convert several drawings that are linked to an SQL database to SQL spatial. The drawings are from a Autodesk map 2004 system. To keep my rouge laptop off the company network I exported our existing SQL data to a access database that I placed on the laptop and converted back to SQL and linked it to the 2004 drawings. That part worked fine. I would like to convert all of them to SQL spatial. I have converted a small drawing but it took a couple of hours. I am in the process of a larger drawing that has 60,000 entities and it has been working for 8 hours and only has 4550 of them completed. I am using the output to fdo connection.

We are doing something like this, to loop through the database and am able to get all Solid3d type of objects.

Jun 27, 2011I want to create an application that intensively uses dynamic blocks, cross checking any new or changed block entity with existing ones.
It needs to be almost instantaneous but the only way I know will be impractical.
Looping through the property collection of each block reference, searching for each parameter then checking for a match.
Is there some sort of database functionality I can use to quickly compare block information?
