I am currently using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2010 for surveying work and have been trying to figure out how to use part of an existing survey of land model. I have it in a layout (paper space) and used a viewport to get the section I am after but there are some changes in labeling and minor model modifications needed to make it a stand alone model and I do not want to modify the original model to make these changes. How can I take a section like I have in view port and make it into its own model with a different scale so the changes can be made and the original model is left in tact?
View 7 Replies View RelatedCIvil 3D 2013 / My drawing opens in layout view and all model objects are appropriately coloured by layer. If I hit plot at this point, my colour dependent .ctb file works fine. However, once I swtich to model view, all my linework turns white and if I switch back to Layout view it remains white and plots each line with the weight assigned to the colour white.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to work on a previous file in my office, and when it opens on mycomputer, it does not display as it should.
In general, the purpose of the project is to reinstate the side slopes of a road abutting a river. Cut & fill sections have been generated on 20m station increments along the road corridor/surfaces in order to calulate cut and fill as well as to reference the design to flood levels.
When I open the file, all of these sections (and there are alot) have relocated themselves to various locations in model space, none of which are aligned with the viewports that are being used for printing.
Could it be software and/or hardware incompatibility with the computer they were originally created on? (I believe it was created with C3D 2010, or C3D 2011 - I am currently running 2012)
So I have a topographic map on Civil 3D, is there a way to generate a 3D model of it?

View 1 Replies View RelatedApparently in 2012 and confirmed in 2013, the drawings listed in the Model Views tab are seemingly unsorted. It's certainly not sorted by date or by name, which makes it difficult at best to find a file by name.
Does any copy of 2008 or earlier that could check this out, since this post says it sorted alphabetically prior to 2009 (and as I recall, it did).Other references to this bug: URLs....

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am attempting to x-ref a building model that was drawn in 2013 MEP in a Civil3D drawing that contains the site surface. When I x-ref my building model into the site drawing and attempt to align and scale the building some of my walls become broken and missing. I have a feeling this is a scaling issue because on my site my north wall should be 24' long. The wall is 24' long in MEP, but that same 24' from Civil3D is only a 2' line segment in MEP. How to remedy this? I have tried scale the building model down in MEP first and it causes all kinds of problems with the door and window objects. I tried adjusting the x-ref scale prior to adding the x-ref and it does the same thing.

Not only did I lose them in that drawing, I lost the tabs in EVERY drawing and EVERY version of C3D. I googled the problem and every forum says the same things, and I've tried them without success:
Options >> Display >> Layout elements >> Display Layout and Model Tabs
CUI >> Workspace Properties >> Model/Layout Tabs >> On
I'm lacking a couple of icons on the lower tray to the right of the Model/Paper button.
The baffling thing is that I've lost the tabs on ALL versions of C3D. Is there a magical command line entry that will bring back my beloved tabs?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having some troubles with Civil 3d. I went from a 32-bit windows XP machine with 4 gigs of ram and a dual core 2.8 GHz processor with an older radeon graphics card to a 64-bit windows 7 machine with 16 gigs of ram, core i7-2600 (3.4 GHz) quad core processor, and an nvidia quadro 4000 2GB graphics card and I thought my life would be easy. But apparently great hardware will not solve all of my software issues.
When I try to switch to model space from paper space in C3D 2012 (sp1) it hangs for maybe 5 minutes before finally switching over. I have only worked on two drawings with the new machine, but it does it on both. And not every time, just half the time in one drawing and most of the time in the other.
Every time I save my drawing or it does an Autosave I get the message "Regenerating model" and have to wait 30 seconds for everything to regenerate. There is no reason it needs to do this, is there some way I can turn it off?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I drop a profile into model space, what happens when I move it? Like if I have ten different profiles, I'd like to square them all up and organize them to fit neatly into my plan views. I just scale my border drawing and drop one of those into model space, then fill it up with profiles until it's full.
I know that I should be working in layout/paper space for this kind of stuff, but this seems easy enough.
I have a drawing that is "Not Responding" when switching from a layout tab to model space by clicking the "Model" tab. I ran a recovery on the drawing and there are no errors. I can't get into model space except by clicking inside my viewport.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi'm working on a drawing started by someone else. They do everything in model space...no paperspace and no viewports. drawing and border are both in model space. I'm not used to just model space.
How do i set the scale of the drawing in model space? do i need to use different size borders to get the correct scale? I'm drawing everything 1:1 and i need my final prints to be on 11x17 paper.
on a previous drawingi see that they used a scale of 1/16"=1' but how they determined this scale. going thru other sheets in the setd of drawings it seems that they used different border sizes (but all are printed on 11x17 paper)...some are printed not to scale if they have no set scale...like details.
example of what i need to do:
I need to show a building rooftop plan view (the entire rooftop) on one sheet. on the next sheet i need to zoom into a portion of the rooftop.
normally i would use viewports to do this. but in model space i dont see how this is done. do i need to have a set of different size borders? but how then can i print them on 11x17 without using "scale to fit"?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen a corridor has lots of variations along the outside edges of the travelway it can make corridor modeling from the centerline a cumbersome task. This is because we have to create a template and region for every scenario where the edge treatment varies from right to left.
To simplify the process I have considered creating alignments for the edges of the roadway and adding them as baselines to the corridor. This way we can create just a few assemblies for the various edge treatments and apply them independently to the left and right baselines. These assemblies would then target the centerline profile to model the crown of the roadway, just as we do for curb returns.
In my experiments it seems to work nicely, but I encountered problems when viewing cross sections and calculating quantities, since the software is designed to work from the centerline baseline. Would it make the sections work if I add an assembly to the center baseline with short segments of pavement and stretch them to the edge baselines?
Another challenge is generating the profiles for the edge of the roadway to use for the baselines. These profiles would need to follow the centerline at a given vertical offset to provide the desired crown slope. Any edits to the centerline profile would need to be reflected in the edge profiles. This could be done by creating a surface from a grading object that is built on a featureline generated from the centerline and using that surface profile for the edge of roadway baselines. Another would be to stretch the center assembly to the edge and generate a profile that way.
So my question is: can this workflow be made to work somehow?

I am trying to model a system of existing storm pipes, where the last catch basin actually has two outfalls: one an 18" pipe and the other a 24" pipe. They have different invert elevations.
I have the pipes set up correctly in Autocad, so that the profile shows up right, and the plan view in Storm Sewers shows up right, too. However, the model does not separate the flows.
Is there a way to manually enter the approximate amount of flow that will discharge through each pipe?
There was a "rotate view" command in the old Eagle point software. How to do that in Civil 3D?

View 5 Replies View Relatedhow one might model an existing drainage channel.
Here’s the scenario – field crews are going to collect data for a 500 ft long concrete (trapezoidal) drainage channel. The bottom width varies from 7 ft to 19 ft wide with vertical walls varying from 4 ft to 7’ high. The channel will be filled and capped.
I considered using one of the channel subassemblies with Civil 3d and establish targets along the existing channel top and bottom of walls. However, I don’t see that the stock subassemblies are intended for this and don’t really lend themselves to perform this. I suppose the other option is to use linkwidthandslope subassemblies and use multiple targets for inside bottoms, inside tops and outside tops of walls.
i have a question for the gurus. how do i accomplish modeling two parallel roads with a median in between? in other words, say a northbound (NB) and a parallel southbound (SB) roadway, with a grass median in between them. the both roads have crown, and then eventually slope down towards the median, and at one point they meet.
I am curious to know if say for NB and SB, i have an assembly with the lanes, then shoulder, and then median area past the shoulder at x%, what subassembly should i use to accurately model the point where the NB and SB x%s meet?
*Edit:
I am not sure if i would be able to do it with only one baseline, as the roads may not always be parallel.
