AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Blocks Not Coming In At Correct Scale?

Mar 4, 2013

I am having an issue inserting a detail call out "block". The blocks were created to be annotative however, when I am inserting them into my paperspace at 1" = 30' it shrinks up the block. In model space it shows at the correct size.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Blocks Insert At Large Scale In 2014 - Correct Scale In 2012

Nov 22, 2013

I am trying to insert a block into a file in Acad 2014 and it comes in too large.  If I insert the same block into the same file using Acad 2012 it comes in at the correct scale.  Doesn't seem to matter if insunits is 0 or 1, or insunitsdefsource or insunitsdeftarget are also 0 or 1.

There must be some variable or variables I'm missing.

AutoCad :: Blocks Coming Into Drawings At Wrong Scale

Aug 3, 2011

I recently started working at an Electrical Engineering firm and one of my many tasks is to sort out their AutoCad system and bring it up to date! An issue that has only recently started happening is that our blocks don't insert at the correct scale. Some of our drawings are metric and some are imperial, and currently all our blocks are in one Imperial file (reference file for our palettes). Is this our issue, my understanding is that when you create a block you should create it as a wblock and each block should have its own file.

The problem is that some of our blocks we want to come in at scale ex/ a 2'x4' light fixture, however an electrical socket or light switch symbol we want to come in at a slightly enlarged scale so that you can easily read the drawing and see where they are located.

AutoCad :: Inserting Downloaded Blocks At Correct Scale

Apr 15, 2013

I downloaded a block of a plan view of a wheelchair user so I can see just how much space there is available.

The block is dimensioned but when I insert it and measure its dimensions, the readings are different. For example, a dimension reads 1070mm but when I measure it, I get 1023mm. Not far out but when I measure a 150mm dimension, I get 83mm. A 460mm dimension is measured as 536mm.

I am cleaning up a drawing from another company, (changing linetypes, text, layers, blocks). When i change blocks, opening the block that I want and saving it as the one that is there, the block comes in at a scale that is a lot larger then what i would like. After saving the new block, if i insert it in, it comes in at the proper scale.

Both the drawing and the blocks are at unitless.

AutoCAD LT :: Dynamic Blocks Coming In Different Sizes?

Nov 8, 2012

I'm trying to set up a dynamic block library for my company. For some reason, whenever I bring in certain blocks, they come out way smaller than when I put them in.

insunits is set to 2 (feet)

Here's the weird thing. I created (for simplicity) Block A and Block B. I created them both in the same drawing, put them both into the toolpallette from the same drawing and then pulled them right back into the same drawing. Block A comes in fine... same size. Block B, even with the block already in the drawing, comes in tiny. What was 2.5' when it went into the toolpallette comes out at .21'. A picture is attached... the top row are the blocks created in the drawing, the bottom are what happens when I bring them back in from the toolpallatte.

I have tried created seperate drawings... tried different scales, deleted and recreated the toolpallette, etc.

AutoCad :: Blocks From Palettes Coming In On Current Layer

Nov 7, 2011

I thought when you created a tool pallet with blocks on a certain layer and put them in your drawing that the block would be placed on the layer it was created on? When I put a block that was created on 0 layer it will insert on my current layer? These blocks are on a network and I am the only one that has rights to modify them.

AutoCad :: Plotting Correct Scale To PDF?

Jan 25, 2011

I am putting together a catalog with some drawings from AC 2010. I am drawing in model space and printing in paper space. The view port scale is 1:1. If I print directly from Autocad to the printer, everything is fine. If I first plot to PDF from Autocad and then print, the dimensions are off by about 1/8". The dimensions read correctly, but they do not measure correctly. The paper size is 8 1/2 x 11. I would like these PDF files to be accurate in case someone needs to print them.

I have tried saving to dwf and then printing and printing out of Design Review but it doesn't make any difference. My settings in Adobe are 1:1 as far as I can tell.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Plotting To PDF With Correct Scale

Mar 13, 2013

I've got a question about plotting to a measurable PDF with the correct scale.

Currently, if you plot to PDF (ARCH full bleed D 24x36 paper size) using 1:1 scale of the Layout area (including viewport, title block, etc) you get a nice PDF of the appropriate plan which would print to paper at the correct scale (1/16" = 1' 0'). If you set the plot scale to 1/16" = 1' 0' then preview/plot it then it appears completely tiny (like 2% of the page size), in the bottom left corner.

However, I want to make the PDF measurable. At the moment, if you do this using a 1:1 plot, the default numbers given by the measure tool are way out of proportion (a 29' dimension in the drawing is measured as 48,294 with no units). To get it to give accurate measurements, you have to tell Reader/Acrobat to ignore document scaling in preferences, then "Change Scale Ratio" to the appropriate scale ratio (0.625 in = 1 ft). This means you can measure to scale in Reader or Acrobat BUT these options disappear once you close Reader/Acrobat.

I'm not bad at drawing things in autocad, but how to set it up properly for the file to be printed out in a shop on A0 at the correct scale. Either some info on how to set it up, or a template file that is already setup would be great.

AutoCAD 2013 :: Import Blocks With Correct Geographical Information

Apr 2, 2013

I wish to import from a TOPCON file. The points are from a GPS unit and are in standard form (easting, northing and elevation). I have been able in import the points into AutoCAD, and although they are in the correct location relative to each other, their geographical information has been altered (ie, the old coordinates are lost, and any measurements between points are now completely inaccurate).

I am working in metric units, and I think the problem may be that when I import the block, it comes in with 'block units' in inches. I cannot see how to change this. I also cannot select 'locate using geographical information' when I insert the block, which I think may be important in preserving geographical information.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Label Styles Annotation Scale Versus Viewport Scale?

Jun 26, 2009

am in the process of setting up a standard file for all designers to use our local office. This file will have most of the styles created for profiles, alignments, surfaces, profile views, etc... as mostly specified by the customer and industry standards.

I am having trouble maintaining the correct annotation scale in the viewport in paperspace and when plotting.

The attached word document has 3 figures. Fig 1 shows the correct viewport scale and correct annotation scale. Fig 2 shows how the annotation scale abruptly changes during the plotting process. This abrupt annotation scale change sometimes happens during the regen process or when I switch from layout to model space and back to layout. The annotation scale goes from 1:1 to 1:40 just as in the viewport. This change in annotation scale is not supposed to happen because I want to preserve a certain plotting height for my text versus a viewport scale by using various annotation scales.

I have researched the procedures for annotation scale and have not found any info related to this "abrupt change in annotation scale".

Curiously , this abrupt change in annotation scale does not happen if the text does not belong to any styles within Civil 3D. Stand alone text stays at the correct annotation scale and is not affected in the same way.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Making Annotative Scale Different From Viewport Scale

Nov 8, 2013

I have a drawing with several layouts, and in one particular layout only, I want the text to be smaller than the annotation scale would dictate (the viewport is 1"=300', but I want the text to display at 1"=50' annotation scale).

I tried selecting the viewport and changing the "annotation scale" property to 1"=50', then the "standard scale" property to 1"=300'.

Strangely, this seems to work for a bunch of MText objects I have in the drawing, but it won't work for an alignment station label group or for a particular linetype...for some reason, those two things insist on having their annotation scale equal to the viewport scale.

I tried messing around with the alignment station label group's style but couldn't figure anything out. As far as the line/linetype, I'm completely at a loss why that one wouldn't change.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Page Setups Aren't Coming Up In SSM Overrides Menu

Nov 12, 2013

I have recently been using Sheet Set Managers (SSM) more recently and have found them quite handy but I am also finding some peculiarities with it too.  I have no issues setting up a SSM and getting it to plot all my sheets either to our plotter or to PDF at full size (24x36), however when it comes to setting up a half size (11x17) page setup and overriding to it, is where problems occur.

What I want is a page setup that I can select that will plot 11x17 from 24x36. So, I first created a page setup that does this in our template (.dwt) and then set the page setup overrides file to our template file (under sheet set properties). Next I right-cliked on my sheet set and went to "Publish" and then "Publishing Using Page Setup Override", but the list it populated for me did not reflect all of the page setups we have in our template???  It listed two page steups _24x36 and _30x42 (see attachment).  These page setups can be found in our template under page setup manager along with several others which don't show in the overrides (see attachment).

Is there a reason the other page setups aren't coming up in the SSM overrides menu?

AutoCad :: Plot (scale) And Using Blocks?

Nov 24, 2011

I am using autoCAD 2011. I have a problem. If I do a drawing in autoCAD in mesarments that they should be in real life. For example if wall is 9000mm long I type in 9000. Building plan like that is easier for me. But problem comes when I try to plot it to scale 1:100 for ISO A3 paper (420x297) How Can I make it fit perfectly and be in-scale?

And another question. If I want to have a frame around my drawing and corner frame with name of the work, who did it etc etc. so I don't have to do it over and over again on every single new drawing. How can I do it? I heared I can use blocks. But how do I fit my block to a certain scale? If I make my block in 420x297 which is A3 standard and do a drawing with 1000- mesarments than it simply will be small for it.

AutoCad :: User Changed Scale Z Value Of All Blocks In Drawing To 1

Aug 13, 2013

In an attempt to fix a corrupt drawing, a user changed the "Scale Z" value of All Blocks in the drawing to "1", and the corruption seems to have gone away.

Audit and Recover error reports were giving her an idea that the problem was related to block scaling, "AcDbBlockReference(xxx) scale invalid uniform", so in desperation she tried changing all the Scale Z values to 1, and it seemed to have worked, for now.

A lot of these blocks were in the drawing at the drawing plot scale, like 20 or 30 (civil engineering).

The drawing was quite old. Originally came from another firm, in ACAD 2000. It a large existing conditions drawing, that just went sour in the past couple of weeks. But now it seems to be working just fine.

This all led to a discussion on "What does the Scale Z value of a block mean? Why is it there? What does it do?" None of us know.

Is it at all possible that it really was the cause of the corruption? All blocks were in the drawing at an elevation of zero.

AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks :: Controlling Scale With Click-grip

Exploring a new field in LT here, was wondering if it's possible to use a flip-grip kind of parameter to control the scale of an object, kind of like an on/off switch.

In this case I have a straight line that is about 15mm. What I want is to be able to click a grip and it disappears ( scales down ) and when I click it again it reappears ( scales up ).

I know that this is possible through a lookup parameter or just a similar effect with a stretch grip, But I want to be able to just click a grip like the one for Flip and it re/appears.
