AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Autosnap Polyline Around Pointcloud - Possible?
May 17, 2013
I have a point cloud that i want to snap a boundry around its outer limit. Is there some way to do this automaticly? I tried creating a surface and using the maximum triangle length to get a good boundry. For some reason i loose a lot of pionts at the edges with this boundry. I have removed points that represents water so i have a part in the midddle that i want a boundry around.

I am experiencing a problem where my Autosnap Settings (system variable "autosnap") are not be saved in my Civil 3D session. When I open Civil 3D 09 (SP1), my autosnap variable gets set to some weird number (aka 6768 or -12566). Each time I get into the drawing I need to reset this to 55, or go into my Options-Drafting-Autosnap Settings and toggle on Marker, Magnet, and Display Autosnap tooltip. This is a system variable and should be retained upon entering a drawing file.

Any way I can align a new polyline to a reference polyline (orig polyline).
The 2 polys will be generally the same length, however, the number of vertices will differ.
Also I need to mantain the same distance between the vertices on the new poly and the new and reference poly won't follow the same direction.

I recently purchased a faro scanner and am looking for a way to use the point cloud data inside maya. I have tried scripts that convert the points to particles but the count is way to high. I have seen several references to Alice Lab's StudioClouds for maya but autodesk bought it and I have found no way to purchase the plugin. I would like to have the textured point cloud visible in the viewport but if that is not possible I would also be interested in any solutions that would feed the point data into either the maya or mentalRay renderer.

I want to dimension along a curvy polyline. I don't want to station it like a centerline. It is for pavement marking dimensions in a curvy road and I want to show the total length of turn lane lines while they go through an s-surve. I could draw the dimensions manually and have in the past. For the contractor, I would simply station and offset it, but it makes it easier for the reviewer to see total turn lane, taper and lane shift lengths, rather than having to calculate them from station and offset callouts.

Recently my company has changed the standards to label existing utilities with text right above the utilitie lines without leaders. I would like to do automate this process somehow using attributes or something similar to that. I have attached a screen shot of how I would like it to look. The objective is to speed up the labeling process.

i know how to set all the targets but this link seems to be a fixed length.

I want to draw a 3D-polyline and wrap it to a surface so that the elevations in the surface aplies to the polyline. With every elevation difference i want a vertrice to be added to the polyline so that it follows the surface perfectly along the polyline length.

I am working on laying out data for some survey crews along the centerline of the road. I have a BC and EC elevation, but the vertices along the CL are at different elevations, which were the original elevation of the poly line before being transformed into a 3D polyline. Is there an easy way to make the full line follow the slope from BC to EC other than manually shifting the vertices?

What length is shown in properties for a 3D polyline?
A 3D polyline having two nodes at 0,0,0 and 10,0,0 has length of 10.
If I move the second nodes to 10,0,1000 the length is still 10.
Is that the projection in xy-plan?

I have a problem iterating heights when making a polyline between two different points that have Z-values. I've used Autocad Civil 3D for working with geodetic data with height measurements before and I remember using geodetically measured height values, transforming them into a surface and then when I create a 3Dpolyline within this area the polyline automatically gets z-values that change along the line.
In other words, I could use this 3Dpolyline to obtain a profile that gives me z-values even where there is no exact point with a value has been physically measured. It was a while ago I worked with Autocad and now when I started again I have a similar problem but can't manage to create a surface and get iterated values.
My exact problem this time is:
I have a sewage pipe that runs for several kilometers that is drawn as a 3Dpolyline, with correct x- and y-values. It doesn't have any z-values yet and these are what I want to obtain. I want the polyline to have continuous z-values that changes along the polyline (not only in vertexes) so that a smooth profile can be drawn if wanted. I have data of measured actual z-values for approximately every 500 meters or so along the sewage pipe and these are currently drawn as 3Dpolylines of around 20 meters going perpendicular to the pipe (as in the picture). In other words there are bars with z-values crossing the pipe all along the stretch. Now, what I want to do is to somehow make the polyline that represent the pipe to get the heights from these perpendicular bars with the measured z-values. If I try to draw a new 3Dpolyline between two of the measured bars where the actual pipe is supposed to be, the end vertexes of the 3Dpolyline gets the z-values of the bars. However, the value in between the bars gets the Z-value 0. So, if I start a 3Dpoly on bar 1 then continue the pipe with another vertex, and then finish off at the second bar I will have 2 vertexes with the correct z-value but the middle vertex will be incorrect (0). How do I get the pipe to get the correct z values automatically iterated from the values on the crossing bars? Is this even possible to do? Should I create a surface from the bars first, and in that case how do I do that? If possible I don't only want the vertexes between bars to have iterated z-values, I also want the entire line to have a correct value.
I've attached a crappy image made in paint (since I don't have Autocad on my home PC, only at the office). And just to make things even clearer I'll give an example. Let's say the pipe distance from 1 to 2 is 10 meters, the distance between 1 to 3 is 30 meters and the z-values of bar A and bar B is 10 and 25 respectively. So, when I draw a 3Dpolyline from 1 to 4, I want the vertex 2 to automatically get z-value 15 (since it's 1/3 on the way to B). In the same way, I would like for example the point on the pipe that is right in between 2 and 3 to have the z-value 20. I won't mind redoing the bars to for example singular points instead, if that makes it all easier.

is there a way to extract a 3D poly line where two surfaces intersect each other.
i have ground surface and i have dam surface. they would like to show the filler material in the cross section graph.. so i copied then raised the surface the required depth.
so now the surface and side slope of the dam intersect. and i would like to trim the filler material surface to be in line with the dam.

I need the DXF files to up load into GPS. Do I have to redraw everything in 3D polyline?Or is there an easier way to convert feature lines into 3D polylines?

About 6 years ago some people in the Land Desktop group were complaining about not being able to move the text in a linetype so as not to obscure other entities.
how I went about it and a drawing showing an example. Drawing is 2012.
I don't say this is going to replace linetype. I'm also going to see if there's a better way of doing this with Civil Objects. But I've wanted to figure this out for a while and had some down time today. So this is for you to play with if you want. I was looking at my Undocumented Commands file and that reminded me of it since this done with un(or little)documented commands.
If you open the drawing. Select one of the magenta circles (nodes) in the center of the text to activate grips. Select a triangular grip and use it to slide the text along the polyline.
