I am working on laying out data for some survey crews along the centerline of the road. I have a BC and EC elevation, but the vertices along the CL are at different elevations, which were the original elevation of the poly line before being transformed into a 3D polyline. Is there an easy way to make the full line follow the slope from BC to EC other than manually shifting the vertices?
View 9 RepliesI have a series of curved feature lines in Civil 3D where the elevation varies along the length of the curve. When I export the file in AutoCAD the feature line elevations are 0. In my previous version of 2010 civil 3D this did not happen but now I am running 2012 version and I can't find a way around it.
Why does 2012 Civil 3D not export feature lines the way it did in previous versions and retain the elevations?
I am working on three different projects at once. For each project, I was sent a drawing with contours as polylines. Each contour is broken up into polylines about fifty feet long each at elevation 0. I am trying to set the polylines to proper elevation without editing each one individually. Each drawing contains several hundred polylines to modify. I was hoping for some sort of way to use a fence and interval (2') with a starting elevation.
I've searched the internet but haven't found a lisp routine to do this. I thought I remember Land Desktop having something like this, but can't seem to find it in Civil 3D 2012. I have found several threads asking the same question. Each time the poster was referred to a blog 7629. That blog unfortunately seems to have been taken down. If I can’t find an answer soon, it looks that my best option would be to retrace each contour which makes me glad to be paid hourly.
I designed an upholstered furniture with curved surfaces. When I generate sections or elevation I'll see the invisible edges on curved surfaces! Is there a way to get the same result as the object viewer hidden line (or shaded with edges)?
2nd question. is there a way to control how many steps the surfaces are tessellated? The outline is not very smooth!

How to create a flow arrow label for a feature line that parallels the curve?
I've a vague notion that this could be done with a dynamic block and a few fancy expressions. I'm comfortable with expressions, but I've never used dynamic blocks at all, so I wouldn't know where to start.
To be clear, I know curved text is possible, but I'm looking for a curved line (ie an arc) that would look 'parallel' to the arc of the feature line (ie have the same centre point). This would have to be dynamic to allow for different radii and for flipping to the left and right side of the feature line.
If there is a way to "flatten" a non curved polyline or series of lines to one straight segmented line, without altering the distances of each segment?

View 4 Replies View RelatedIn C3D 2012, when I needed to know what elevation a surface contour was at, I simply hovered my mouse near the point in question and a small window would tell me what elevation my mouse was hovering at. Now, in 2013 I am trying to do the same thing but the little window only has the name of the surface and no elevations. So, how am I supposed to know surface elevations on the fly? Is there some setting to turn that back on?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI need to project a surface/grading (or something of that nature) across my berm and have it intersect with the inside bank. This is better explained if you see the attached image. In the plan view you see 4 featurelines. Outside TOE, outside TOB, inside TOB then inside TOE. I need to project the outside TOE across the berm (shown in the section view) then create a new featureline where the line and inside slope of the berm intersect. Note that all the elevation shots vary as does the widths across the berm. What's the best way to do this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have two different point groups that I am using in my drawing. One is from a survey done a few years ago and the other is from one that I did just the other day.
I don't have a problem inserting the points or whatnot, but the issue I am having is that when I click "Datum" to adjust the elevations of my new point group (to make my benchmark 100.00'), Civil 3D alters all of my points; including the ones from the older survey. Is a way to adjust elevations to only one set of points.
I have a survey figure that no matter what will not come in with the correct elevations, its a spline (continous) curve that the elevations get blow up on.
Only thing I can think of is the when it starts to interpolate the curve it cant get the elevations correct, this only happens in the curved area, once it goes tangent everything goes back to normal.

We are running Civil3d 2012. When converting a line or 3d poly to feature line, or just creating one it adds elevation points where it crosses surface breaklines even if you do not assign elevations. We want the feature to just have 2 elevations. The beginning and end. Is this a bug? Or is there another setting somewhere?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI graded a commercial site with mostly feature lines. I added points where I needed them to get everything to work. After modifying my surface, I suddenly have zero elevations randomly throughout my site. They don't make any sense why they appear. Some are just added to my drawing and others are existing points that were changed to zero. I can go to a back up drawing from a few hours ago and redo some grading, but I would like to know if there is a way to just erase zero elevations from the surface. I remember LDD was able to create surfaces ignoring elevations below a set elevation.

Is there a way to lighten up the colors of my surface slope analysis that the rainbow gives me? My drawing will be going into a report and the colors are too bold. Pastels are a bit too bold.

UPPER BAND - has proposed road elevations on the left and existing road elevations on the right.
LOWER BAND - has pipe elevations on the left and the SAME existing road elevations on the right.
I've been messing around in the profile view properties but cannot hide the duplicate elevations in one of the bands.
Way to snap or drape the alignment (station) labels over a surface or bring them to the elevation of a selected surface. I'd like to know how to do this if there is a way, so when I look at surfaces in object viewer I can get an idea of where problem areas are from the stationing labels.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been sent a survey drawing with elevations. The format is a block, but it's not a named block. Each entity has it's own block name. So, I'm having trouble getting at the elevations. I can't seem to export and get the elevation or Postion Z.
I've tried exploding these blocks, but all I get is a couple of polylines, and some text. Useless. I've attached a sample drawing with a couple of these points.

When I tag the pline, it shows a "zero" elevation, but shows a numeric elevation within the DXF_ELEV feature.I am needing to convert these to pline with elevation to work on in autocad. how to get polyline w/ elevations to export from c3d?

For example at a given location GE reports 538 but the c3d surface report 164 a factor of 3.28. sounds like a meter thing going on. is this normal?

I have 7 roads in my drawing and all of the profile data bands except one are correct. We first started with an overall profile with the EG created from a surface and the FG created by drawing in profile, then created multiple profile views. The only thing wrong with the one road profile is the data band is not showing the EG elevations. The strange thing is under Profile View Properties - Bands Tab, Profile 1 is set to EG and Profile 2 is set to FG, so it recognizes it is there and is also shown in the profile, however no elevations. I have tried recreating the multi profile views. Attached is a screen shot to give you a visual.
I am working as the civil engineer on a design team for a building that is primarily using REVIT. My site design is done in Civil 3D in real world coordinates and elevations.
Unfortantely, the architect and the rest of the design team are working at 0,0 with a finished floor of 100. When I bring in the ADSK file, I can move it horiztonally to match my site but I can't figure out how to move it vertically so it ties in with my model.
