View 3 RepliesI draw a curved line and would like it to remain as a curved line even after saving the file. However everytime after saving, and opening the file again, the curve breaks into many line segments, which is not what I want! I want the curved line that I draw to remain as a curved line even after saving and opening. How do I do that? I am using autocad2010.
I use the ARC command to draw a couple of lines, they look okay here. But after I saved it, and re-open it again, what previously appeared as curved lines changed in their appearance to polyline segments.
I'm trying to model a 3d leadscrew. How can I extrude a 2d closed polyline in a straight line while at the same time twisting it (360° twist for every 1.5" along the path). I've tried loft, sweep, extrude all using the helix as a path. When I can get a result, it ends up being a corkscrew.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIf you have a steel plate bent in several directions and with non-perpendicular ends, designed in 3D Auto Cad.
For example, the plate can be curved with a certain radius in the vertical direction and another horizontally. How would you, or what software would you use, to get the plate flattened to the exact measurements of how it should be cut.
Suppose we have a plastic part modeled as bent around a cylinder with an x-axis. Because the material is plastic and the manufacturing method is injection molding, part stretch is not a concern.
Suppose further that the part is a solid part that will be converted to a straight spring. The part needs to be flattened to obtain the correct spring dimensions--the part may have variable width in the x direction.
What is the best way to flatten this part?
Is there a way to make a object with straight lines to change the straight line to be undulated like a curly.

I've a vague notion that this could be done with a dynamic block and a few fancy expressions. I'm comfortable with expressions, but I've never used dynamic blocks at all, so I wouldn't know where to start.
To be clear, I know curved text is possible, but I'm looking for a curved line (ie an arc) that would look 'parallel' to the arc of the feature line (ie have the same centre point). This would have to be dynamic to allow for different radii and for flipping to the left and right side of the feature line.
Is there a fast and simple way to make a straight path curved? I'm a FreeHand convert, and with it you could hold down the option key, click and drag the straight path (line) into a curve and control it fairly well.

I created one, then arrayed, but the radius changes at each 2.5 degree interval. I don't think I should have to calculate the % radius change to get the beams to do this. Some constraint button maybe?
Not sure if editing a wall profile is the best way to model this, but it's working.

I know you can drag out curves when drawing with the pen tool, though I am unclear on actual straight and curved anchors.

I have a BC and EC elevation, but the vertices along the CL are at different elevations, which were the original elevation of the poly line before being transformed into a 3D polyline. Is there any way to take a straight line or part of an image and curve it with ease or will I have to redraw or alter each line?
I've just recently caught up to 2.8 (From 2.4 something or other believe it or not ) and amongst a couple of things I have to say I don't like is the fact that previously when setting a path, if I wanted it to be either perfectly horizontal or vertical I could see by the steps in the path preview line whether it was or not.
With the new version, initially at least, that's no longer the case. As I tend to work with straight lines a lot of the time it's proving to be a bit of a pain. Is there any way to set the path preview line to show the steps again to indicate a straight line.

i have problem with the Application option settings for sketch enviroment: When i draw a line in the sketch, i am not able to do the "click hold for a tangent arc to the representing line" it just starts a new straight line.
I know it has something to do with the settings, but can figure out what the correct settings are...
At the top of the clock, how do you draw the curved lines, which say radius of 4.

I have a bench which I have drawn in CAD, and I want to calculate the area.
The bench is a sort of "S" shape.
In the past I have only calculated the areas of straight objects and so have been able to pick points, but i'm not sure how to go about it when the object includes a curve.
