AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Assembly For Divided Highway With Inconsistent Offsets
Nov 5, 2013
What I have is a highway that is being twinned, however the divided lanes are not consistantly the same distance away (or the same width of roadtop). I would like to keep the number of alignments to a minimum. Both lanes would be based off the same vertical profile. So I would like to have a single assembly that could adjust the median width in the center, and the lane width. Targetting the horizontal layout you can see in the attached screenshot. (this is not all of the job of course)
Is this a feasible task for the targetting assemblys? Would be a fairly standard 4:1 side slopes, adjustable ditch bottom width, 2% crowned road otherwise.

We have just started using Civil 3D. I need to be able to create an assembly that will place a sidewalk at varying offsets (it is too random to make seperate assemblies). I have tried making an alignment of the back of the walk and attempted to use targets in the corridor to achieve this .
I will attempt to attach the DWG that I am working on. The Main alignment is PR-1 as is the corridor and the alignment that i need the back of the walk to follow is PR-1 BWR.

I am looking into switching to AutoCad Civil 3D from MxRoads. Up to now I have been using Mx and have a large back catalogue of roads work all in MX formats, Input files, Genios etc.
Given that Mx is string based and Civil 3D appears to be section based, I'm wondering if when you import a genio created in Mx, is there a way to "link" a carriageway string to the master string, without having to recreate the alignment from scratch. If I needed to do a quick change to a vertical alignment or a road widening I want to be able to do without reinventing the wheel! I need to ensure that the program can recognize the relevant way string that matches the Master string.

We have a data folder on the server mapped as network drive to the clients. The data folder contains all cad data stored from productstream professional.
Due to an over 10 year old environment the data folder contains a huge amount of cad files, library parts, iParts and so on.
Due to historical growth of the environment there are some missing parts (not available on the file system anymore), because they were deleted, are corrupt, and so on. At the root of the data folder there is located the typical cmpinv11.ipj inventor project file.
If you open an assembly either from productstream or via inventor (without productstream) directly from the data folder and the assembly has an unresolved child component because the file isn't there anymore it takes a very very long time until the dialog box for unresolved link comes up (waiting time several minutes 1...10min). Once reached this point one can skip and repair the assembly, of course.
But the question is, how to speed up the time for getting the unresolved link dialog?
The network connection itself is quite OK und the project file itself is also OK. The project file list of every user is pretty small (only cmpinv11.ipj and some standard ipj's).
We think inventor internally scans the whole project-file folders to ensure that the component is really missing but due to the huge environment this takes many minutes and is annoying.
Any bypass for that? Is it possible to apply a temporär setting before opening a potential inconsistent assembly? Or is there a setting like skip unresolved components by default or by a defined timeout?
Because it is Inventor 2010 (Productstream PRO 210) there is no File open Option Auto-Skip unresolved components (like in 2012) but even if it was I guess it wouldn't reduce the time to get the dialog either.

I will be starting to design a 4 lane - 5 lane highway divided by a median. The median will be offset from the cl, stop for the intersection, then continue on the other side of the cl once past the intersection.
I will start digging into the median sub assemblies to try to figure this out.
I remember the old LLD/Civil manuals used to have a description on how to do this. I have 2008 sp2, but only the 2007 manual printed out.

I'm having some problems using some existing MX highway design data I've brought into Civil3D using the genio import extension. Basically I can bring in all the alignments that I want to be able to use but am unsure where to go next in terms of creating a proposed profile line. My goal is to be able to pull out long sections and cross sections based on this data. Ideally I'd like to avoid doubling up on work in MX and Civil3D as much as possible.

I created a profile for an alignment (which has 2 offsets) and also an assembly with two assembly offsets. I wanted to create a corridor where my assembly offsets will have the same profile but will be on different alignments (alignment offsets).
In the corridor properties / parameters, I got an error : duplicate profile found. Should I copy the profile (for each offset) in different profile views (for each offset) ? Or there is a better way to do that ?

Creating a compound curve bullnose ar intersection. Since the entrance is a short distance it is considered the secondary roadway and the looped road the primary. At the intersection of the two roads. I need to provide a compound curve curb return. The configuration is tangent to 25'R to 5'R to tangent with primary road. Need direction/recommendation on best way to input this configuration.

I'm looking for a way to determine (and preferably edit) the values of P1 and P2, the offsets of the initial tangents into the PC/PT of the shifted curve. It's not in the (admiteddly basic) book I have either.
[Edit: OK, after double-checking,I just found Widening offset clothoid, but I'm still none the wiser.]

I need to make interchange shoulder widening for my sub assembly.
there is picture where I have the shoulder which I want to add target offset in corridor to make offset of the edge of shoulder. but I don't know how to write expression that when top link will offset slope will move with it and the bottom link will connect in crossing of this two points.

I thought I created a rail sub assembly.
So I created the rail sub assembly everything looks great in sub assembly composer.
Start a new dwg data reference in the rail alignment, Note the rail alignment type is set to rail.
Create an assembly and under the Construction tab for the assembly the Assembly Type is set to Railway. Attach my custom sub assembly to this assembly.
Created a corridor and I get this error: Something wrong with current subassembly: Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object.
So I delete my sub assembly attach the Civil 3D Rail Single sub assembly. Re run corridor and everything works fine.
So I promote the alignment change type to centerline. Delete the Rail Single sub assembly put my rail sub assembly back. Rerun the corridor and everything works.
So then I undo everything up to the point of promoting the alignment.
Opened the base file changed the alignment type to centerline.
When I tried to synchronize the references I ended up a broken reference with the following error. Invalid reference. Synchronization failed
Not good we already have plan sheets cut.
where in sub assembly composer were do I define the sub assembly to be for Rail?

I have a finished corridor, but now I need to add marked points to label a few key grade breaks in my cross sections. When I attempt to add the marked points on some of my sub-assemblies it gives me the error that the sub-assembly is not part of the assembly. I can right click the sub-assemly and choose "Add to Assembly" but when I rebuild the corridor it strips all the sub-assembly data from my assembly and leaves me with essentially a null assembly for the range.

I'm trying to create a Dynamic Block of an 3/4" x 3/4" aluminium angle with holes:
Depending on the length the number of holes will vary.
The distance between each holes need to be somewhere between 8" and a maximum of 12".
The holes must be centered and start from 1 1/2" up to 2" from each ends.
Each distance must be not more precise then 1/16" (no rounded off dimensions)
I'd like to simply drag the handle of the linear parameters (No lookup or visibility for 2 hole, 3 holes, 4 holes etc.)

I have a an angular polyline (not horizontal or vertical). I want to equally divide the polyline with a specified length and get all separation co-ordinates at each interval. The line remains as polyline, I need to get only the co-ordinates of all the possible divisions for a given length.
I need a C#.Net function for this.

I have written this code to check the name of the layouts and determine if the are to our company standard or not and if they are close enough to determine what they should be rename them. I create a drawing with severl differant layout names to test the code but I am getting inconsistent results. The drawing I created has 9 layouts named M2_03, M2_04, m3_01, m3_02, tm01_25, tm2.05, tm2.06a, TM2_01, and TM2_02A. It seems to be crashing on the tm2.06a but I can not figure out why.
Public Class StandFix <Autodesk.AutoCAD.Runtime.CommandMethod("StandFix")> _ Public Sub StandardFixer() Dim ErrString As String = "" ErrString = ErrString & StandardizeLayoutNames() MsgBox(ErrString, MsgBoxStyle.OkOnly, "Non-Standard Entities Found") End Sub
[Code] ....
why sometimes it work and checks all the layouts, but most of the time it only does some of the layouts.

Im using MEP and in MEP2010 the Offset command worked fine on my structural members, offsetting to the direction I picked.
In MEP2012 the offset command now offsets the same structural member to the opposite side of the point I pick.
The structural member is rolled 180 and the way I can correct this offset issue is to roll the SM back to 0, then the offset command offsets to the correct side.
Is there a new setting or something in 2012 that will get the offset command behaving the way it did in 2010 where it does not care about the objects properties and just offsets it correctly?

Why does Photoshop reckon 0 divided by 0 is 0 when doing arithmetic with colour components?I guess the program logic assumes 0 divided by anything is 0, never proceeding as far as considering that a divisor of 0 is involved. But I wonder if this handling of 0 / 0 is deliberate for a reason that eludes me.
For a non-zero number divided by 0, Photoshop produces the maximum value of a colour component (e.g. 255 in 8 bits). That is sensible and the same result should arise from dividing 0 by 0, surely. (Other graphics software does consider 0 / 0 to produce max.)
Look at the contrived example below. The black disc in Divide mode should result in a white disc, but wherever an underlying colour component is 0, the resulting colour component is 0 instead of max. (Don't bother measuring the pixels in the screenshot - they've been converted from sRGB to my display profile then to sRGB again without infinite precision.)

I have several script commands that insert items such as title blocks (xrefs) and page boundaries (blocks). The base point and INSBASE for all files are set to 0,0,0. However the blocks will occassionally come in at different positions. In some cases I can repeat the command multiple times and each time the same block will inset at a different position in the same drawing even though the insert point is set to 0,0,0.

Trying to set a Phantom line as the property line and also use dashed lines (ACAD_ISO03w100)
I can mess with the ltscale and make it so one or the other reads properly, but never both. The Phantom displays correctly at ltscale: 1, the dashed lines display when ltscale is .1 they are on different layers

I have noticed in the past that in x-refs the layer colors can be inconsistent but never really thought about it. But I have just started looking into it, I created 2 simple drawings with a layer called 'one' and in each drawing gave the layer a different color value. In each drawing there is a rectangle on that layer, and then the first drawing is x-ref'd into the second. OK no problems so far. If you now go back into the first drawing and change the layer color, and save the drawing, the second drawing lets you know that a reference has changed and needs updating, but the color doesn't change, and if I then add new geometry into the first drawing and update the x-ref in the second drawing it shows up as the original color of the layer.
I haven't checked yet if any other properties behave in the same way, but I am just trying a color coding system for checking when items have been updated, and this throws a spanner in the works, how to update the properties, or is it possibly a system variable.

I tried to slice a solid after a quite complex surface and received this error.
"The Boolean operation on solid and/or surface bodies failed.Modeling Operation Error: Inconsistent face-body relationships.SLICE failed for selected solid."
What I have tried:I up-scaled the surface-solid ensemble by 10x but it didn't work(same error)
I extruded that complex,multi-plane surface and then sliced it with a horizontal plane and got the desired solid BUT:I would like to know what the cause of that problem was and how it can be solved so that I can slice that solid following that surface.

This is an odd one. When I have a 1pt stroke and try to align it either on the inside or outside, Illustrator offsets the stroke in an odd manner. (See image for the three states: centered, inside, and outside.) However, there is a workaround where I first set the stroke to 2pt and align it as I want and then change the stroke back to 1pt and the behavior is as expected.
For something as basic as aligning a 1pt stroke, it seems odd to need to resort to a workaround.
