AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Highway Median Intersection Opposing Left Turn Lanes
Jan 16, 2013I'm facing problem in designing a intersection. Highway median intersection opposing left turn lanes.
View 4 RepliesI'm facing problem in designing a intersection. Highway median intersection opposing left turn lanes.
View 4 RepliesI will be starting to design a 4 lane - 5 lane highway divided by a median. The median will be offset from the cl, stop for the intersection, then continue on the other side of the cl once past the intersection.
I will start digging into the median sub assemblies to try to figure this out.
I remember the old LLD/Civil manuals used to have a description on how to do this. I have 2008 sp2, but only the 2007 manual printed out.
I'm trying to model a corridor with medians and resulting turn lanes (widening an existing street to full arterial). Any good way to model? I have been playing around with having target alignments for the edge of medians, edge of asphalt....but have not been getting the best results.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am looking into switching to AutoCad Civil 3D from MxRoads. Up to now I have been using Mx and have a large back catalogue of roads work all in MX formats, Input files, Genios etc.
Given that Mx is string based and Civil 3D appears to be section based, I'm wondering if when you import a genio created in Mx, is there a way to "link" a carriageway string to the master string, without having to recreate the alignment from scratch. If I needed to do a quick change to a vertical alignment or a road widening I want to be able to do without reinventing the wheel! I need to ensure that the program can recognize the relevant way string that matches the Master string.
I am trying to create an intersection design using the Intersection Tools in C3D 2012. I followed the steps in the tutorials, created a corridor on the major road, splitted the regions, created the intersection and added it to the major road corridor, and connect the regions with the intersection portion.
I used the same assembly throughout the design just for simplicity, however, i notice that there are gaps of curb between the curb return section and the through section (as outline in red rectangles).
civil 3d 2011, Are there any good tutorials or videos on creating raised median divided roads with the bull nose.I am using one alignment and profile, the profile defines the lip of gutter of the outside lanes.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhat I have is a highway that is being twinned, however the divided lanes are not consistantly the same distance away (or the same width of roadtop). I would like to keep the number of alignments to a minimum. Both lanes would be based off the same vertical profile. So I would like to have a single assembly that could adjust the median width in the center, and the lane width. Targetting the horizontal layout you can see in the attached screenshot. (this is not all of the job of course)
Is this a feasible task for the targetting assemblys? Would be a fairly standard 4:1 side slopes, adjustable ditch bottom width, 2% crowned road otherwise.
I am having trouble getting my assembly to work in my corridor. I have a Basic Lane Transition subassembly with a Link Slope to Surface subassembly attached to it. The assembly follows my centerline alignment and the lane widens as designed out to my offset alignments. The slope grading to daylight works fine until the transitional lane starts to widen, then the slope assembly stays at the same point on the lane and does not stay linked to the end of the lane.
I am also having trouble getting the subassemblies to attach to the proper points. I keep trying different OSnaps unitl one seems to work, but I am never sure the subassemblies are connected properly.
I'm having some problems using some existing MX highway design data I've brought into Civil3D using the genio import extension. Basically I can bring in all the alignments that I want to be able to use but am unsure where to go next in terms of creating a proposed profile line. My goal is to be able to pull out long sections and cross sections based on this data. Ideally I'd like to avoid doubling up on work in MX and Civil3D as much as possible.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt can be done using the LaneFromTaperedMedian subassembly, and that there is a webcast explaining it. I have checked with Autodesk, and the webcast is no longer available. Any detailed instructions as to how to accomplish this. I'll attach an image of my median.

I have a baseline profile as a finished grade of a roadway corridor and want to add raised medians within a portion of the corridor. best way to have the medians adjust as the profile grade changes?
View 9 Replies View RelatedC3D2012..I have an assembly with left and right curb subassemblies, they are spaced about 1 m apart. I want to connect the BOC's with a constant slope median. I bring in the median and connect it to the Left BOC and it attaches, but shoots the median for 20 m across the assembly to the right. I tried to put a marked point on the right BOC prior to bringing in the median assembly, but the same thing happens. I changed the marked point name to RTC (Right Top Curb) and also changed the name to match in the median subassembly, with the same results.
Any proper way to insert the median and get it to connect properly.
I need to create an assembly where the median width varies , I already created the alignment, profile, corridor, section with the design level. Also I have created the assembly with fix width. Now in the middle of my road the median is getting bigger ,Its possible to link the median with a polyline or another alignment were it change the width ?
View 4 Replies View Relatedi have a question for the gurus. how do i accomplish modeling two parallel roads with a median in between? in other words, say a northbound (NB) and a parallel southbound (SB) roadway, with a grass median in between them. the both roads have crown, and then eventually slope down towards the median, and at one point they meet.
I am curious to know if say for NB and SB, i have an assembly with the lanes, then shoulder, and then median area past the shoulder at x%, what subassembly should i use to accurately model the point where the NB and SB x%s meet?
*Edit:
I am not sure if i would be able to do it with only one baseline, as the roads may not always be parallel.
I have problem with medians ( Both MedianRaisedWithCrown and MedianRaisedConstantSlope) when crossing center line ( i.e whole median has to cross the center line).
I have median that goes along the centerline and it has to move to left completely ( whole median is on left side of the centerline) to cater for left turn. I tried with MedianRaisedWithCrown and MedianRaisedConstantSlope but it did not workout for me.
I used alignment ( for cl ) and offset alignments for median edge and etw. I have problem when the median edge ( offset alignment ) cross the center line and continues. I can see etw and median feature line shifts.
Here's my assembly :
and
when I tried to assign the Median Width in my corridor to a polyline representing media width,
I got this overlap in my Section view :
how can I maintain Objects in this cause "Lanes" attached to median no matter width change ?

I've started doing my first intersections but I'm stuck with one mistake. I did all daylights and curb returns for intersection.
I have a feeling that it's incorrect targeting here, isn't?
What is the best way to relocate and intersection (created with the wizard) from 43+00 to 40+50? I dragged the alignment but the return baselines don't seem to come along for the ride. Would it be better to bite the bullet and redo it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am "trying" to design a intersection that contains four lane divided road. Northbound and Southbound lanes are 2% normal crown with a curbed median. I have alignments for each crown. The intersecting road is not crowned. This road is a retrofit so I am limited quite a bit so the intersection wizard is out. We're going old school with this one.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI need a style for intersection of alignments that automatically includes the abbreviations for Point On Tangent (POT), Point On Curve (POC), etc. I can create a style with the basic information of Station, Alignment Name, but adding the POT, POST, etc. in front of all alignment’s stationing and name doesn't seem available still in Civil 3D 2011.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI m trying to create an intersection between two roads. See the attached jpeg. When i open the corridor properties i receive an error message which i don't understand. It seems like civil 3d has problem with the order of the regions. Also the corridor sections intersects in the area that i have place a remark "problem". I m trying to correct it manual but when i rebuilt intersection then it overlaps my manual correction
View 3 Replies View Relatedissue with my Corridor. It involves the intersection of a main road alignment and a secondary road. Thing is my main road has a 6' shoulder whereas my secondary road doesn't have a shoulder at all. I used the Intersection Wizard to create the Intersection, but the two templates don't align. Without the shoulder the ditches don't line up. I tried drawing a polyline between the two ditches and targeting it and that worked, but then realized that going from 6' shoulder to no shoulder wasn't working either so when I tried to target a polyline from the 6' shoulder to the edge of pavement all kind of stuff happened that didn't make sense to me.

I have a site access road that extends from highway into site and then loops around and intersects with itself. Would like to keep this as one alignment in order to make Super Elev and master alignment easy to control across project team.
Issue is, we would like to use Intersection wizard at the intersection but cannot, as we ony have one alignment. We could model the intersection the old way, using kerb returns with design profiles, but as the design is still in early stages the intersection is likely to be frequently revised.
how we could utilise intersection wizard in this scenario?
I have a link starting from P1.Is there a way to check if the link is intersecting EG or not?

I have a problem modeling intersection. This is first time I am modeling intersection. I have gone thru' and actually did all intersection tutorials offered by C3D and naturally I felt like I am ready for it.
But in real world I am not. I am trying to model intersection and I keep getting error as "Value on Wrong side of alignment to profile". I looked at target mapping and thinks so that all is okay (may be not). I am attaching snapshot of error message as well as plan view. I wanted to forward actual dwg but size is too large to post.
Point to note:This is Left lane driving setting. I realized this after I created alignment/profile/assemblies but before I tried intersection modeling.
I did 8 iterations before this post.
I would like to know how it would be possible to manipulate the Intersection Wizard so that I can obtain the required shape as drawn by the architect. In essence create a "round about" shape. see the attached image for furhter detail.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy corridor surface randomly bounces from top links to bottom links through the intersections even though I specified top links only and my corridor is modelling correctly.
Previously I just deleted the surface and recreated it with no errors but it doesn't seem to work now. This happens with both manually created intersections and ones created with the intersection tool.
Creating an intersection of two roads. I have created corridor using alignments, profiles and assemblies. then i have created the intersection. However, i find it quite strange. Maybe it's because of the assemblies. . I am attaching the file herewith .
