AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Intersection With Multiple Assemblies
Nov 6, 2013
I have a super-e road assembly as shown that is running into the intersection of a future road stub. I can not figure out how to get the sidewalk to grade out in the intersection transition I have created for the curb return. Any way to get through this situation?
I have a corridor with multiple assemblies along a 4 mile stretch of road. In certain locations the corridor is not not modeling the sidewalk. I checked all the targets and everything is good.
I am trying to create an intersection design using the Intersection Tools in C3D 2012. I followed the steps in the tutorials, created a corridor on the major road, splitted the regions, created the intersection and added it to the major road corridor, and connect the regions with the intersection portion.
I used the same assembly throughout the design just for simplicity, however, i notice that there are gaps of curb between the curb return section and the through section (as outline in red rectangles).
I'm trying to use assemblies when creating a corridor. The Tool Pallette is emply but I can drag the assembiles in from the Catalog. I've also created an assembly using the ASC. Neither work when I try to use them. The error message is attached.
I'm using a network installation and I do not have the option of changing it to a DVD installation.
I have a spring that is used in multiple assemblies and in each assembly the compressed length is different. Plus the amount of compression is different.
What is the best way to model the spring so if I change the WD or OD, etc. all assemblies would update?
I tried adaptive, but that seemed to limit the relationship to a one-to-one not a one-to-many.
If I used iPart or the spring was derived from a table, where the OD & WD were constant, would the assembly models change when I changed these values?
So I have an assembly made up of several smaller assemblies and have constrained them in the main assembly but when I run the analysis, the interaction does not seem to exist.
An image has been displayed below, the pin should line up with the holes.
I have a issue merging multiple parts into one assembly. When i do the constrains the parts are able to move but the pieces break part. I need to be able to move the whole assembly with all parts together without them breaking apart.
In my company there are a lot of standard parts with variations. An object can have for example a left and a right variation, or can have three a different heights. I've created and iAssembly with the different variations, in which every member has a different part number. I'd like to make an overview drawing containing all the variations of that object, so the user can easily see the options and can choose the one he wants. On the sheet I'd like to have views of all the different members of the iAssembly, plus a table of all the members with their part number. It was no problem to create the views and the table. But I have two other questions.
1. I want to show the name of the Assembly with the view. So I'd to have in the view a text with the description of the Assembly-member, which is linked with the Assembly. I've tried to use a balloon to tag the assembly, but this only balloons the parts of the assembly. (How) can I do this for the whole of the assembly?
2.When I make an overview of all the columns we use, I'd like to align all the views at the bottom of the view, so you can see that all the columns have different heights, and how they differ in relation to each other. When I align the views with each other, the alignment is done in the middle of the object, not at the bottom. Is there a way to choose what lines of the view must align with each other? Or a way to align the views to a line (for example in a sketch)?
Any way to create a parametric Parts List containing subassemblies, where the subs are listed, by name/item number, in colum format, and qty's are tabulated accross rows. (see attached as an example). If the same part number occurs in multiple subs, the part is only listed once, but the quantity for each sub would be noted. The pdf attached had to be done manually, which somewhat defeats the purpose of having software like Inventor.
We use simple line drawings of parts. Some of these parts are used in multiple products, however if a change is made to a drawing it has to be replaced in all the other locations
I have tried to get them to go to 3d modeling and xref in the parts but apparently that is not acceptable , since there is no master assembly, but instead folders of dwgs is there an easier way of managing this?
iLogic code question concerning how Place iLogic Component and retain the ability to push parameters from the subassemblies to the parts after being renamed.
I have ASSEMBLY.iam containing:
SUBASSEMBLY-01:1.iam SUBASSEMBLY-02:1.iam and sometimes SUBASSEMBLY-02:2.iam
each SUBASSEMBLY.iam contains PART1.ipt and PART2.ipt which have variable LENGTH and WIDTH. LENGTH and WIDTH are entered manually at the SUBASSEMBLY.iam and are infinitely variable.
To transfer the parameters I'm using iLogic code in the SUBASSEMBLY:
Issue 1: When I place the SUBASSEMBLY as an iLogic Component, the parts are renamed to PART1-01.ipt which renders my Parameter transfer useless. What am I missing on writing this code so it can find the new part name?
Issue 2: I like the automatic renaming that happens with Place iLogic Component. Is there a better way to handle this automatically through Place Component -> Save & Replace?
I have 2 assemblies and drawings of those assemblies. in both the same part is among the parts.
I want to change the name of the part that is in both assemblies with the Design Assistant, but i am afraid that if i will choose one of them and change the part file's name, the other assembly will be damaged. is it true?
I think this might happen because when i open only the part in Design Assistant, it doesn't let me change it's name, so, Design Assistant might not know where this part is inserted in.
When I open up multiple assemblies at the same time Inventor cant find some of the part files, even though they are on my system. Many times if the part is in an assembly more than once, some of the instances will be there and only one or two instances will be "unresolved", of the exact same part. I can open each assembly one at a time and it will be fine, but that can be time assuming. I wasn’t able to find any other threads with a similar problem.
I am having some trouble with assemblies. What I want to do is, create multiple assemblies with moving parts and then assemble them all in one assembly. When I do this, the assemblies with moving parts come in as "blocks" and the parts will not move.
What distinction is between “intersection” and “apparent intersection” in snaps,. I’m not sure what difference is between the “intersection” and “apparent intersection” in snaps.
We use a similar sub-assembly in almost every assembly we design. So what I would like to do is make a template from this sub-assembly that I can make adaptive, constrain to the proper parts and have it resize to the main assembly. I've been trying to do this for a few weeks now with little success.
I have seen tutorials make adaptive part templates but never adaptive assembly templates. Is this even possible?
I know you can't make individual parts adaptive to multiple assemblies without saving each part as a different file and I think that's where my problems are coming from. Even though I save the template as a different file is it still referencing the original adaptive part in my library folder? If so, is there a way I can make it not do that? I may be way off base there too I don’t know.
What is the best way to relocate and intersection (created with the wizard) from 43+00 to 40+50? I dragged the alignment but the return baselines don't seem to come along for the ride. Would it be better to bite the bullet and redo it?
I am "trying" to design a intersection that contains four lane divided road. Northbound and Southbound lanes are 2% normal crown with a curbed median. I have alignments for each crown. The intersecting road is not crowned. This road is a retrofit so I am limited quite a bit so the intersection wizard is out. We're going old school with this one.
I need a style for intersection of alignments that automatically includes the abbreviations for Point On Tangent (POT), Point On Curve (POC), etc. I can create a style with the basic information of Station, Alignment Name, but adding the POT, POST, etc. in front of all alignment’s stationing and name doesn't seem available still in Civil 3D 2011.
I am working in an Inventor Assembly .iam, I have about 250 fasteners (screws) that are constrained to a flat washer and lock washer. I would like to put them in as a single unit (sub assembly if you will) and then promote or explode them in the top level so that my bom has 250 screws, 250 washers, and 250 lock washers all at the same level, not associated to one another except thru the constraints that were entered in the original assembly. I have tried Promote but that doesn't work because it removes the washers from the original file and I end up with only 1 instance of the assembly. Am I approaching this incorrectly? Is there a better way? I run across this scenario with different components quite often.
I m trying to create an intersection between two roads. See the attached jpeg. When i open the corridor properties i receive an error message which i don't understand. It seems like civil 3d has problem with the order of the regions. Also the corridor sections intersects in the area that i have place a remark "problem". I m trying to correct it manual but when i rebuilt intersection then it overlaps my manual correction
issue with my Corridor. It involves the intersection of a main road alignment and a secondary road. Thing is my main road has a 6' shoulder whereas my secondary road doesn't have a shoulder at all. I used the Intersection Wizard to create the Intersection, but the two templates don't align. Without the shoulder the ditches don't line up. I tried drawing a polyline between the two ditches and targeting it and that worked, but then realized that going from 6' shoulder to no shoulder wasn't working either so when I tried to target a polyline from the 6' shoulder to the edge of pavement all kind of stuff happened that didn't make sense to me.

I have a site access road that extends from highway into site and then loops around and intersects with itself. Would like to keep this as one alignment in order to make Super Elev and master alignment easy to control across project team.
Issue is, we would like to use Intersection wizard at the intersection but cannot, as we ony have one alignment. We could model the intersection the old way, using kerb returns with design profiles, but as the design is still in early stages the intersection is likely to be frequently revised.
how we could utilise intersection wizard in this scenario?
I have a problem modeling intersection. This is first time I am modeling intersection. I have gone thru' and actually did all intersection tutorials offered by C3D and naturally I felt like I am ready for it.
But in real world I am not. I am trying to model intersection and I keep getting error as "Value on Wrong side of alignment to profile". I looked at target mapping and thinks so that all is okay (may be not). I am attaching snapshot of error message as well as plan view. I wanted to forward actual dwg but size is too large to post.
Point to note:This is Left lane driving setting. I realized this after I created alignment/profile/assemblies but before I tried intersection modeling.
I would like to know how it would be possible to manipulate the Intersection Wizard so that I can obtain the required shape as drawn by the architect. In essence create a "round about" shape. see the attached image for furhter detail.
My corridor surface randomly bounces from top links to bottom links through the intersections even though I specified top links only and my corridor is modelling correctly.
Previously I just deleted the surface and recreated it with no errors but it doesn't seem to work now. This happens with both manually created intersections and ones created with the intersection tool.
Creating an intersection of two roads. I have created corridor using alignments, profiles and assemblies. then i have created the intersection. However, i find it quite strange. Maybe it's because of the assemblies. . I am attaching the file herewith .
I have a mainline corridor which is intersecting with a side road corridor that is curving towards the mainline. After the PT of the curve, the two alignments are parallel and I am using an offset assembly here for the sections. What is the best way to handle the area where the two corridors are coming together. As far as I've been able to tell, I cannot use an offset assembly through the curve. There will be a ditch between the two that needs to be shown someway or another. I've attached a screen shot.
