AutoCAD Inventor :: Overview Drawing Multiple Assemblies

May 17, 2013

In my company there are a lot of standard parts with variations. An object can have for example a left and a right variation, or can have three a different heights. I've created and iAssembly with the different variations, in which every member has a different part  number. I'd like to make an overview drawing containing all the variations of that object, so the user can easily see the options and can choose the one he wants. On the sheet I'd like to have views of all the different members of the iAssembly, plus a table of all the members with their part number. It was no problem to create the views and the table. But I have two other questions.

1. I want to show the name of the Assembly with the view. So I'd to have in the view a text with the description of the Assembly-member, which is linked with the Assembly. I've tried to use a balloon to tag the assembly, but this only balloons the parts of the assembly. (How) can I do this for the whole of the assembly?

2.When I make an overview of all the columns we use, I'd like to align all the views at the bottom of the view, so you can see that all the columns have different heights, and how they differ in relation to each other. When I align the views with each other, the alignment is done in the middle of the object, not at the bottom. Is there a way to choose what lines of the view must align with each other? Or a way to align the views to a line (for example in a sketch)?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Springs Used In Multiple Assemblies

Jan 11, 2012

I have a spring that is used in multiple assemblies and in each assembly the compressed length is different. Plus the amount of compression is different.

What is the best way to model the spring so if I change the WD or OD, etc. all assemblies would update?

I tried adaptive, but that seemed to limit the relationship to a one-to-one not a one-to-many.

If I used iPart or the spring was derived from a table, where the OD & WD were constant, would the assembly models change when I changed these values?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Multiple Sub Assemblies In Parts List

Jul 25, 2013

Any way to create a parametric Parts List containing subassemblies, where the subs are listed, by name/item number, in colum format, and qty's are tabulated accross rows. (see attached as an example).  If the same part number occurs in multiple subs, the part is only listed once, but the quantity for each sub would be noted.  The pdf attached had to be done manually, which somewhat defeats the purpose of having software like Inventor.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Multiple Identical ILogic Sub-assemblies With Different Parameters

Jul 17, 2013

iLogic code question concerning how Place iLogic Component and retain the ability to push parameters from the subassemblies to the parts after being renamed.

I have ASSEMBLY.iam containing:

SUBASSEMBLY-01:1.iam
SUBASSEMBLY-02:1.iam
and sometimes SUBASSEMBLY-02:2.iam

each SUBASSEMBLY.iam contains PART1.ipt and PART2.ipt which have variable LENGTH and WIDTH. LENGTH and WIDTH are entered manually at the SUBASSEMBLY.iam and are infinitely variable.

To transfer the parameters I'm using iLogic code in the SUBASSEMBLY:

 Parameter("PART1.ipt", "LENGTH")=LENGTHParameter("PART1.ipt", "WIDTH")=WIDTHParameter("PART2.ipt", "LENGTH")=LENGTHParameter("PART2.ipt", "WIDTH")=WIDTH

Issue 1: When I place the SUBASSEMBLY as an iLogic Component, the parts are renamed to PART1-01.ipt which renders my Parameter transfer useless. What am I missing on writing this code so it can find the new part name?

Issue 2: I like the automatic renaming that happens with Place iLogic Component. Is there a better way to handle this automatically through Place Component -> Save & Replace?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Change Part Name That Has Multiple Insertions In Assemblies?

Oct 30, 2013

I have 2 assemblies and drawings of those assemblies. in both the same part is among the parts.

I want to change the name of the part that is in both assemblies with the Design Assistant, but i am afraid that if i will choose one of them and change the part file's name, the other assembly will be damaged. is it true?

I think this might happen because when i open only the part in Design Assistant, it doesn't let me change it's name, so, Design Assistant might not know where this part is inserted in.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Unresolved Parts When Opening Multiple Assemblies?

Jan 22, 2013

When I open up multiple assemblies at the same time Inventor cant find some of the part files, even though they are on my system.  Many times if the part is in an assembly more than once, some of the instances will be there and only one or two instances will be "unresolved", of the exact same part. I can open each assembly one at a time and it will be fine, but that can be time assuming. I wasn’t able to find any other threads with a similar problem.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Calling Out Assemblies In Drawing Views?

May 20, 2013

I have a top level assembly created from multiple subassemblies.  In my drawing view, I would like to add leaders calling out the subassemblies.  Is this possible with Inventor 2013?  It seems easy - am I missing something?

I tried adding leaders, and selecting the model properties, selected the subassembly, then picked part number.  The leader always reverts back to the part level.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Can't Make Individual Parts Adaptive To Multiple Assemblies Without Saving Each Part

May 4, 2013

We use a similar sub-assembly in almost every assembly we design.  So what I would like to do is make a template from this sub-assembly that I can make adaptive, constrain to the proper parts and have it resize to the main assembly.  I've been trying to do this for a few weeks now with little success.

I have seen tutorials make adaptive part templates but never adaptive assembly templates.  Is this even possible?

I know you can't make individual parts adaptive to multiple assemblies without saving each part as a different file and I think that's where my problems are coming from.  Even though I save the template as a different file is it still referencing the original adaptive part in my library folder?  If so, is there a way I can make it not do that?  I may be way off base there too I don’t know.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Separate Configuration Assemblies And Parts List On Same Drawing

Mar 7, 2012

I have an assembly that is identical to another assembly with the exception of 2 or 3 components. I want to create 2 different configurations of the assembly, e.g. 12345-009 for the original assy and 12345-019 for the similar assy that has a couple of different components and/or additional components. I can create the -009 assembly and then do a "Save As" for the -019 assy and do a "Component/Replace" and add (or delete) other components.

I want both of these assemblies to be on the same drawing with a base number of 12345. I know I can do this and create a separate parts list (BOM) for each configuration and put it on the drawing. Is there a way to "merge" the two PLs so that there is a quantity column for each configuration (-009 and -019)? For example, if the same gear is used in both assemblies, I want a quantity of 1 in each column. If a component is used in one but not the other, i want only the quantity to show up in the appropriate configuration column.

 I am using Inventor 2011.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Make Few Assemblies In Separable For Parts List In Drawing

Mar 13, 2013

I know I have to do this in the Bill of Materials menu, but for some reason the part I want to make inseparable is greyed out whiles the one that is just one part isn't.

My only option right now is to make it a weldment which works but not ideal, because now the material isn't correct.

I'm trying this on the 099.03.00.097 assembly in the picture.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Promoting Parts In Assemblies From Stock Sub-assemblies Or Component Groups

Oct 3, 2011

I am working in an Inventor Assembly .iam, I have about 250 fasteners (screws) that are constrained to a flat washer and lock washer. I would like to put them in as a single unit (sub assembly if you will) and then promote or explode them in the top level so that my bom has 250 screws, 250 washers, and 250 lock washers all at the same level, not associated to one another except thru the constraints that were entered in the original assembly. I have tried Promote but that doesn't work because it removes the washers from the original file and I end up with only 1 instance of the assembly. Am I approaching this incorrectly? Is there a better way? I run across this scenario with different components quite often.

Is there any way this can be done, like adding or removing part links to the list manually?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Showing Multiple Model Layers In Drawing

Mar 11, 2013

Been trying to show multiple layers/coatings in my drawing for several hours now, and finally defeated,

I have a revolved part that's made of multiple layers -- aluminum, for example, with an anodized coating and then a paint on top. I need to make a detailed drawing to show how thick each layer is, and to that end, created the part profile, added an offset rotation for layer 1 and then another offset rotation for layer two. They're thus symmetric and in full contact, but separate, distinct layers. No problem.

Turning this into a precise drawing, however, is a bit harder, since all of the layers render into one monolithic revolution. I need to show those layers distinctly, like in the png file attached. Is that possible?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Drawing Multiple Angled Holes In Block

Apr 8, 2013

I need to create a adaptor to go from one 96 hole array pattern to a smaller 96 hole array pattern.  The pattern gets smaller in both X and Y.  This would go from vertical hole to angled hole back to vertical hole.  One or both of the vertical sections could be removable to allow this to be a drilled part.  The center section would be a solid block.

Since each hole will be at a different angle (in two different planes) it seems like I would need to create a separate plane for each hole and extrude from that plane.  In addition to being error prone, this would take a large amount of time.  Is there an easier way?

It would be straightforward to create a block with points for the large 96 hole array on top and the small 96 hole array on the bottom.  Is there some kind of point to point method of creating a hole at an angle?  A construction line could be drawn point to point but is there a way to make a hole from that?
