AutoCAD Inventor :: FEA Analysis Multiple Assemblies

Dec 5, 2012

So I have an assembly made up of several smaller assemblies and have constrained them in the main assembly but when I run the analysis, the interaction does not seem to exist.

An image has been displayed below, the pin should line up with the holes.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Springs Used In Multiple Assemblies

Jan 11, 2012

I have a spring that is used in multiple assemblies and in each assembly the compressed length is different. Plus the amount of compression is different.

What is the best way to model the spring so if I change the WD or OD, etc. all assemblies would update?

I tried adaptive, but that seemed to limit the relationship to a one-to-one not a one-to-many.

If I used iPart or the spring was derived from a table, where the OD & WD were constant, would the assembly models change when I changed these values?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Overview Drawing Multiple Assemblies

May 17, 2013

In my company there are a lot of standard parts with variations. An object can have for example a left and a right variation, or can have three a different heights. I've created and iAssembly with the different variations, in which every member has a different part  number. I'd like to make an overview drawing containing all the variations of that object, so the user can easily see the options and can choose the one he wants. On the sheet I'd like to have views of all the different members of the iAssembly, plus a table of all the members with their part number. It was no problem to create the views and the table. But I have two other questions.

1. I want to show the name of the Assembly with the view. So I'd to have in the view a text with the description of the Assembly-member, which is linked with the Assembly. I've tried to use a balloon to tag the assembly, but this only balloons the parts of the assembly. (How) can I do this for the whole of the assembly?

2.When I make an overview of all the columns we use, I'd like to align all the views at the bottom of the view, so you can see that all the columns have different heights, and how they differ in relation to each other. When I align the views with each other, the alignment is done in the middle of the object, not at the bottom. Is there a way to choose what lines of the view must align with each other? Or a way to align the views to a line (for example in a sketch)?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Multiple Sub Assemblies In Parts List

Jul 25, 2013

Any way to create a parametric Parts List containing subassemblies, where the subs are listed, by name/item number, in colum format, and qty's are tabulated accross rows. (see attached as an example).  If the same part number occurs in multiple subs, the part is only listed once, but the quantity for each sub would be noted.  The pdf attached had to be done manually, which somewhat defeats the purpose of having software like Inventor.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Multiple Identical ILogic Sub-assemblies With Different Parameters

Jul 17, 2013

iLogic code question concerning how Place iLogic Component and retain the ability to push parameters from the subassemblies to the parts after being renamed.

I have ASSEMBLY.iam containing:

SUBASSEMBLY-01:1.iam
SUBASSEMBLY-02:1.iam
and sometimes SUBASSEMBLY-02:2.iam

each SUBASSEMBLY.iam contains PART1.ipt and PART2.ipt which have variable LENGTH and WIDTH. LENGTH and WIDTH are entered manually at the SUBASSEMBLY.iam and are infinitely variable.

To transfer the parameters I'm using iLogic code in the SUBASSEMBLY:

 Parameter("PART1.ipt", "LENGTH")=LENGTHParameter("PART1.ipt", "WIDTH")=WIDTHParameter("PART2.ipt", "LENGTH")=LENGTHParameter("PART2.ipt", "WIDTH")=WIDTH

Issue 1: When I place the SUBASSEMBLY as an iLogic Component, the parts are renamed to PART1-01.ipt which renders my Parameter transfer useless. What am I missing on writing this code so it can find the new part name?

Issue 2: I like the automatic renaming that happens with Place iLogic Component. Is there a better way to handle this automatically through Place Component -> Save & Replace?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Change Part Name That Has Multiple Insertions In Assemblies?

Oct 30, 2013

I have 2 assemblies and drawings of those assemblies. in both the same part is among the parts.

I want to change the name of the part that is in both assemblies with the Design Assistant, but i am afraid that if i will choose one of them and change the part file's name, the other assembly will be damaged. is it true?

I think this might happen because when i open only the part in Design Assistant, it doesn't let me change it's name, so, Design Assistant might not know where this part is inserted in.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Unresolved Parts When Opening Multiple Assemblies?

Jan 22, 2013

When I open up multiple assemblies at the same time Inventor cant find some of the part files, even though they are on my system.  Many times if the part is in an assembly more than once, some of the instances will be there and only one or two instances will be "unresolved", of the exact same part. I can open each assembly one at a time and it will be fine, but that can be time assuming. I wasn’t able to find any other threads with a similar problem.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Stress Analysis Thin Sheet Multiple Thickness

Jul 3, 2013

I have an assembly of multi-thickness, thin sheets, essentially welded together. (see image attachment)

One component is composed of land and bay areas, a single planar sheet where the edges are thin, and the central body is thickened.

I can get Inventor to treat the remaining multi-thickness, right angle components as midplane by going with separate bodies.

The top plate is a single planar sheet, and Inventor will not treat it properly as a mid-planed plate.

Will Inventor translate the constraints properly if I build the thin region separate from the central thicker region in order to produce feasible mid-planed mesh?

Question already posted by other in forum - using local control to develop multiple element thicknesses through cross section of plate (by thin face selection), one cannot verify that the smaller elements along the cross section are built properly through the entire component.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Can't Make Individual Parts Adaptive To Multiple Assemblies Without Saving Each Part

May 4, 2013

We use a similar sub-assembly in almost every assembly we design.  So what I would like to do is make a template from this sub-assembly that I can make adaptive, constrain to the proper parts and have it resize to the main assembly.  I've been trying to do this for a few weeks now with little success.

I have seen tutorials make adaptive part templates but never adaptive assembly templates.  Is this even possible?

I know you can't make individual parts adaptive to multiple assemblies without saving each part as a different file and I think that's where my problems are coming from.  Even though I save the template as a different file is it still referencing the original adaptive part in my library folder?  If so, is there a way I can make it not do that?  I may be way off base there too I don’t know.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Promoting Parts In Assemblies From Stock Sub-assemblies Or Component Groups

Oct 3, 2011

I am working in an Inventor Assembly .iam, I have about 250 fasteners (screws) that are constrained to a flat washer and lock washer. I would like to put them in as a single unit (sub assembly if you will) and then promote or explode them in the top level so that my bom has 250 screws, 250 washers, and 250 lock washers all at the same level, not associated to one another except thru the constraints that were entered in the original assembly. I have tried Promote but that doesn't work because it removes the washers from the original file and I end up with only 1 instance of the assembly. Am I approaching this incorrectly? Is there a better way? I run across this scenario with different components quite often.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: SSA Error 537 - Unable To Perform Multiple Storm Analysis No Storm Was Selected

Nov 21, 2013

I am working on modeling a pond riser.  I had one model with a series of small round perforations in the riser and I needed to look at a version that used larger, square cut-outs in the riser.  So, I performed a "save-as" and adjusted my orifices to match my new model requirements.  When I attempted to run the model, I received the following error: "ERROR 537 : Unable to perform multiple storm analysis, no storm was selected.".

I have encountered this one time before and was able to go back to the first model and start over.  However, now, even when I run the first model (small round perfs), I receive the same error.

I have a storm event assigned for both models but the program does not seem to recognize this any longer.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Stress Analysis Contacts

Oct 8, 2013

I am trying to simulate the following:

I have an 8" OD/5.523" ID steel tube. A 5.5" OD/4.957"ID tube is placed inside.  The 8" and 5.5" tubes are placed over a 4.9375"OD shaft.  So basically you have a hollow shaft attached to a drive shaft, with a filler tube placed between them to fill the gap.  Two 1-1/2" UNC bolts are placed in matching1.531" diameter holes in every component (thru bolted) with a nut.  Tightening the nut will tend to flatten the pipes, taking up the clearance between then and creating a contact pressure on the drive shaft.  I have having trouble getting all of the contacts correct since the components are not in contact at the beginning of the simulation due to the radial clearances.

Two axial bolt loads of 129,000 lbs will be placed on the tubes.  I have used a sliding/no separation contact between the bolt and nut.  Then I put a fixed constraint on the bottom face of the nut (not in contact with the tube) and put a 129,000 force on the top of each bolt head to simulate the axial load created by the bolt preload.  What type of contact should I use between the tubes that have radial clearance?

I have attached the tubes and drive shaft.  The 1-1/2" bolts and nuts (both heavy hex) were found in the library.

AutoCAD Inventor :: G-Forces In Stress Analysis

Jan 6, 2014

I am trying to properly stress test a steel aircraft fuselage. I can easily model the estimated weight of the pilot, copilot, etc as loads on the airframe. However, when it comes to simulating a high-G situation, (a load factor of around 7.5 times the force of gravity), I am not sure what to do. On one hand, I can simply multiply the loads on the airframe by the load factor and see if the frame can take it. In most cases, it performs very poorly, (safety factor less than 1). However, if I model all the loads under normal conditions, (normal pilot weight, etc.), then add a gravity load equal to 7.5 G, the airframe performs well. Yet I am not sure if the loads on the airframe, (such as pilot weight), are being adjusted along with the increased gravitational load.

My question is, what is the best way to accurately simulate real world loading for high-G situations?

I know this can not be right as it would mean that all have the same energy which is impossible.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Different Results Between Frame Analysis And FEA

Jan 27, 2013

I am trying to run a simulation on a 4 layer part that has two base layers of I-beams, a frame I made in the frame generator (below) and a solid sheet on top. I am having some issues with the FEA side and was curios to see if the frame analysis tool would yield the same results as the stress analysis simulation. For the frame generator I saw 4 times the amount of deflection despite using (what I believe) are similar loading and constraints, however now I am unsure if I can trust to run an FEA simulation with a frame generated component. The frame is made up of 2 inch steel box beam with a 0.25 inch wall thickness. For the frame analysis package, I have applied a pressure that equates to a 70 kN load across four different sections of the frame. Supports have been placed under all four corners, with 1 being fixed and the other 3 free to move. For the FEA simulation, I applied a similar pressure by creating 2 inch wide plates and applying the same pressure at the same four points. There are also 2 inch square pads under the four corners of the frame with one edge of one pad being fixed and the bottom of the pads having a frictionless constraint. There are separation contacts between both the pressure plates on top of the frame and the frame as well as between the pads and the frame.

with the frame generator is that all the segments of the frame are bonded together (under contacts) which makes sense since they are welded together. However when I put a sheet on top of the frame, there are 3 contact points created between each beam on the frame and the sheet (one on the face of the frame that is in contact with the sheet and the other two on the rounds of the frame and the sheet, even though the rounds are not actually in contact with the sheet). Either way, I am seeing deflections of less than 0.1 mm when a 70 kN load is applied which I know is not right and just want to know if using a frame generated component is not possible with an FEA simulation.
